Collector pushes for drone farming, targets 2 lakh acres
Collector Raja Kumari highlighted that the integration of Kisan drones in agriculture not only enhances productivity but also creates better employment opportunities for farmers. She revealed that 40 drones are currently in use across the district and emphasized the need to adopt more advanced technologies in the coming days.
She noted that the 'Drogo Krishi 3Pro' drone, which costs approximately ₹9.8 lakh, is being made available with up to 80% subsidy. This drone can operate in both automatic and manual modes. In automatic mode, it can spray across an entire field using the geographical coordinates (longitude and latitude) stored in the FMB (Field Measurement Book) data, requiring no human intervention. In manual mode, the drone can be operated remotely from the field's boundary. The drone is equipped with sensors capable of detecting field elevations, slopes, and power lines to ensure efficient and safe spraying. It includes five rechargeable battery sets, each capable of covering four acres per charge — enabling up to 20 acres of coverage with a full set. Each battery takes about 45 minutes to recharge.
Collector Raja Kumari emphasized that the use of nano urea via drones can reduce input costs and boost yields. She also warned against the overuse of chemical fertilizers, which depletes micronutrients and degrades soil quality. Noting that the carbon content in the soil is below 3%, she urged measures to enhance soil fertility. Improper irrigation practices, even in the absence of crop need, were also identified as a factor contributing to micronutrient loss and reduced yields.
The Collector called for efforts to cultivate nearly 2 lakh acres of currently fallow mono-cropped land with a diverse range of crops including sesame, black gram, soybean, and millets. Farmers are encouraged to shift from leaving land fallow to adopting sustainable cropping practices with the support of drone technology.
She also advised Drogo operators to improve drone charging accessibility in the fields and enhance tank capacity. For technical assistance, she recommended contacting the toll-free helpline 9294892948. Farmers can also avail services from the drone service centers located at Shop No. 14 and 15 near RRR Restaurant on Kovelakuntla Road, Nandyal Town, and at the service center in Rythu Nagar.
Earlier in the session, officials from the agriculture department, NABARD DDM, LDM, and representatives from the drone company provided detailed insights to farmers and agricultural staff on the technology, benefits, and access to bank financing for drone procurement. District Agriculture Officer Murali Krishna, LDM Ravindra Kumar, RARS Principal Scientist Dr Ramakrishna Rao, NABARD DDM, drone technology experts including Chaitanya, along with farmers and agricultural officials attended the meeting.

Start with support. Look for a high back office chair with adjustable lumbar, headrest, and armrests. Mesh backs help with airflow, while a memory foam seat adds comfort over long hours. A chair that adapts to your body, not the other way round, makes a bigger difference than fancy features. Not always, but high-back chairs offer fuller support for the upper back, neck and shoulders. If you're working long hours or tend to recline a bit while thinking, a high-back office chair gives better alignment and reduces fatigue, especially when paired with a tilt-lock feature and lumbar support. Good quality mesh chairs, especially ones with certified components like BIFMA or a metal base, hold up well. The trick is to check the density of the mesh and the weight limit. Chairs like the Sleep Company SmartGRID or Frido AeroMesh are great examples of breathable builds that don't compromise on durability. There's no rule saying you can't use the same chair for both. But if your home space is limited, a model with flip-up armrests or a compact design like the DROGO or Da URBAN might suit better. For dedicated work zones, go for heavier builds with precise adjustability like the Astride Ergofit or IAFA Ergolux. Upgraded nuclear power gallery opens at Delhi Science Centre
The National Science Centre on Friday unveiled a fully revamped version of its Hall of Nuclear Power: Atoms Serving the Nation gallery, showcasing nuclear energy through immersive simulations, interactive controls, and cutting-edge display tech. Spread across 7,000sqft, the permanent gallery now features more than 56 interactive exhibits aimed at making nuclear science accessible to the public—especially students. The ₹1.25 crore upgrade was funded by the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) as part of a long-running collaboration under a 2012 MoU with the National Council of Science Museums. 'The essence remains, but the exhibits have evolved with time,' said BVS. Sekhar, NPCIL executive director, who inaugurated the gallery. 'We've incorporated new technologies, made it more intuitive, and leveraged the museum's expertise in science communication.' Visitors can now experience a 3D walk-through of a nuclear power plant, explore an omni-projection of solar fusion, and test a touch-screen simulator that mimics a nuclear control room—showing in real time how changes affect output and safety. The Hall of Nuclear Power is now open to visitors daily from 9:30am to 6pm. 'We've reworked the entire user experience,' said Vijay Shankar, director of the Delhi Science Centre. 'The safety section now reflects updated commissioning protocols, and every system is built to invite curiosity.' The gallery also tells the story of India's nuclear programme—its milestones, challenges, and promise—highlighting figures like Homi J Bhabha and India's use of thorium reserves as a sustainable energy path. Similar NPCIL-backed installations exist in Mumbai and Chennai, with smaller district level versions in the pipeline. Shankar also announced a ₹32 crore grant from the ministry of tourism for wider upgrades to the science centre. 'We're working on new galleries on space exploration and prehistoric life. Public areas will also be redesigned in the next year.'

NRCB scientists to reach out to farmers to transfer latest technologies in banana cultivation
The National Research Centre for Banana (NRCB) in Tiruchi will participate in the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan (VKSA), a national pre-Kharif season outreach initiative of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). The main objective of the campaign, to be conducted between May 29 and June 12, is to bridge the gap between agricultural research and farmer fraternities. It would seek to transfer latest agricultural technologies from research institutions to fields and raise awareness on government schemes, improved farm practices, and sustainable cultivation models. ICAR–NRCB will promote hi-tech banana farming methods such as high-density planting and tissue culture propagation, besides natural farming techniques, balanced fertilizer application, and use of soil health cards. Expert teams from NRCB will visit various parts of Tiruchi, Karur, Ariyalur, and Perambalur districts during the campaign, providing a platform for farmers to interact with scientists, receive technical advice, and get information on schemes such as PM-KISAN and PMFBY. NRCB will design and distribute extension handouts containing relevant banana farming technologies and best practices, according to a NRCB press release. The NRCB campaign will be guided by its director R. Selvarajan and C. Karpagam, Nodal Officer – VKSA, ICAR–NRCB, the release added.
