Switch 2 owners can play Borderlands 4 on October 3

Engadget2 days ago
Switch 2 owners won't have long to wait for Borderlands 4 . On Tuesday, Gearbox founder and CEO Randy Pitchford said it will arrive on October 3. While some had worried the game would be pushed back to 2026, it will land on Nintendo's console less than a month after other platforms.
Pitchford's video begins with a sober build toward what sounds like bad news. Just when you think he's about to announce a delay, he turns into an excited 10-year-old, yelling about the game's October release date. "That date is October 3! It's October 3, you guys!! It's not next year; it's not even the holiday! It's so much before Christmas; it's so much before Thanksgiving! It's October 3, you guys!!!" Pitchford, who is a magician on the side, clearly relished this. To view this content, you'll need to update your privacy settings. Borderlands 4 is Gearbox's first major release since 2K Games bought the studio last year. That followed the epic, messy implosion of its former owner, Embracer Group.
In the game, you'll play as a vault dweller taking on the dreaded Timekeeper and his ruthless army. It's set on a new planet, Kairos. It also introduces new gameplay mechanics (a grappling hook!), seamless world transitions (no loading screens) and fluid co-op (asynchronous difficulty levels). Best of all, it won't cost $80. Tone-deaf comments Pitchford made in May sparked speculation that the game might pull a Mario Kart World . (His magic failed him that day.)
The game first launches on PC, PlayStation and Xbox on September 12. Unlike those platforms, Borderlands 4 for Switch 2 isn't yet available for pre-order. If you buy something through a link in this article, we may earn commission.

King Charles Gives a Rare Look Inside the Royal Residence Where the Family Celebrates Christmas

King Charles just gave a rare look inside one of the royal family's most beloved residences. On Thursday, July 24, the King hosted President Maia Sandu of Moldova and Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India at his Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, located about 100 miles north of London. The leaders shook hands for photos in the saloon, Sandringham House's main reception room. A fireplace is seen in the background along with large plants placed throughout the room, which receives plenty of natural light thanks to large windows. 🇲🇩 The President of the Republic of Moldova visited The King this morning at Sandringham House. — The Royal Family (@RoyalFamily) July 24, 2025 The King was given a tree to be planted this autumn, inspired by the environmental initiative launched by the Indian Prime Minister, which encourages people to plant a tree in tribute to their mothers. Sandringham is a beloved estate for the royal family and where they typically spend Christmas and New Year's. The tradition was started by the late Queen Elizabeth in 1988, meaning all of her grandchildren grew up holidaying in Norfolk. However, the house's holiday significance dates back even earlier than that. Sandringham House was where the late monarch delivered her first-ever televised Christmas message in 1957. On Christmas Eve, they gather for a formal, black-tie dinner and to exchange gifts. In his 2023 memoir, Spare, Prince Harry recalled how the royal gift exchange might differ from the average family. 'We were at Sandringham in a big room with a long table covered with white cloth and white name cards. By custom, at the start of the night, each of us located our place, stood before our mound of presents," he wrote. "Then suddenly, everyone began opening at the same time. A free-for-all, with scores of family members talking at once and pulling at bows and tearing at wrapping paper.' On Christmas morning, the family walks together to St. Mary Magdalene Church, a 16th-century parish located on the Sandringham Estate, greeting locals, fans and members of the press along the way. After the service, they walk back to Sandringham House to enjoy the day together. While the holiday gathering this year will almost certainly include King Charles and Queen Camilla, as well as Prince William, Kate Middleton and their children — Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7 — some members of the royal family have split off from the celebration in recent years. Last Christmas, for example, both Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie spent the holidays with their in-laws. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle haven't taken part in Christmas with the royal family since 2018, the year they married. Amid the couple's rift with the royals and Harry's recent declaration that he "can't see a world in which I would be bringing my wife and children back to the U.K.," their children — Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4 — have never experienced the holidays at Sandringham. In a few weeks, King Charles and the royal family will likely gather in Scotland at the Balmoral estate, where they traditionally spend time each summer. Read the original article on People

No, of Course You Can't Actually Play the New Lego Game Boy

Back in January, as the world awaited news on the Switch 2, Lego jumped in and teased a collaboration with Nintendo that would bring the classic Game Boy console back to life in brick form. Now it's here—and it looks even better than we expected. But, the promo video for launch has caused a fair bit of confusion as to whether you can actually play it. The video is a remake of part of the original Game Boy commercial from 1989. As the included brick-built game cartridges are placed into the GamePak slot, the video's actor at least looks to start playing, before turning the Lego Game Boy to the camera—which shows the game on the screen moving pretty convincingly. Instagram content This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from. "THE GAME IS PLAYABLE?!?!" says one excited commenter. Another jumps in: 'Wait, so the screen is a real working screen?' And they continue: 'Can you play other games if you have the cartridges?' 'So, is this a functional Game Boy?' For anyone stumbling across the video in their newsfeed, it's fair to say it is… unclear. However, click the audio on and the reality is, unfortunately, confirmed. The voiceover says that the games are 'interchangeable and not playable' and the moving display is actually down to 'the lenticular display pieces.' But even that hasn't stopped people's questions. 'Did he say 'not playable'?' asks one viewer. 'So you can't actually play the games?' asks another. Some are just straight up disappointed: 'All that effort to make it look like [it] is playable to quickly say is not playable.'
