Ohio State QB "Doesn't See" Penn State Nittany Lions As Rival

Yahoo19-05-2025

The Penn State Nittany Lions finished the 2024 football season with a 13-3 record and a spot in the Big Ten Conference Championship game against the Oregon Ducks. While the Nittany Lions did lose that game 45-37, they still landed the sixth seed in the College Football Playoffs, and advance two rounds before ultimately losing to the National Championship runners up in the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
It was a fantastic campaign for the Nittany Lions, and one of the best to this point under head coach James Franklin. Despite the success, Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback Will Howard had some harsh words for Penn State this week.

"Penn State thinks that their rivals are Ohio State, and Ohio State just doesn't really see it that way," Howard told Ben Roethlisberger on the "Footbahlin" podcast.
Howard, now a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers, only played the Nittany Lions once throughout his collegiate career. It came in 2025, his only season with the Buckeyes. It proved to be his worst game of the year, in terms of passing yards, as he threw for only 182 yards on 16-of-24 passing with two touchdowns and one interception. It marked the only game where he failed to reach 200 passing yards.
While Penn State may not be as big of a rival as the Michigan Wolverines are for Ohio State, the two teams are still on each other's schedule every year and it is a clash of titans everytime they meet. And in this year's matchup, with Jim Knowles flipping allegiances, the stakes will be much higher than they have been in recent years.
The Penn State Nittany Lions and the Ohio State Buckeyes meeting on the gridiron is a college football staple. Regardless of how Will Howard feels, the Nittany Lions must be looked at in some capacity as the Buckeyes' rival if he is still thinking about them, even while now being in the NFL.

Two College Football Powerhouses Stuck in Bidding War for No. 1 Player in New Jersey

Two College Football Powerhouses Stuck in Bidding War for No. 1 Player in New Jersey originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Luke Wafle isn't lacking attention. The USC Trojans and Ohio State Buckeyes are providing the four-star Class of 2026 edge rusher with more than enough. Advertisement Lincoln Riley and Ryan Day are vying for Wafle's commitment, but the former has a leg up as of right now, On3's Steve Wiltfong reported Wednesday. 'A spring visit to Ohio State and then a summer official visit checked a lot of boxes for Wafle from a development and culture standpoint,' Wiltfong wrote. 'Whatever the NIL promise was, USC trumped it this past weekend. That along with potentially playing for Eric Henderson and Shaun Nua also made for an exciting opportunity. 'USC could be in control again for what has become a bidding war for one of America's best.' 247Sports director of scouting Andrew Ivins compares Wafle, who stands 6-foot-5 and weighs 245 pounds, to former Buckeyes star Jack Sawyer. Sawyer is now playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers. USC Trojans head coach Lincoln Riley watches pregame Nicholson-Imagn Images 'Force-based defensive end that's a tackle collector on the edge,' Ivins said of Wafle in a scouting report earlier this month. 'Racks up stops when ball carriers near his gaps as he has the strength and power to will his way to wins. … Might need some time to find his footing, but projects as a potential impact player for a College Football Playoff contender that can do the dirty work.' Advertisement As a junior at the Hun School (N.J.), Waffle totaled 53 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, eight sacks and eight quarterback hits. Wafle's father, David, played on Duke's defensive line in the 1990s. Michigan football beats Ohio State, Penn State for 5-star EDGE

The post Michigan football beats Ohio State, Penn State for 5-star EDGE appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Michigan football team is on a special recruiting surge right now, and it just got even better as five-star EDGE Carter Meadows announced that he will play for the Wolverines. Meadows picked Michigan over rival Ohio State and Big Ten foe Penn State. He is one of the best players in the 2026 recruiting class, and this is a massive recruiting win for head coach Sherrone Moore. Advertisement 'BREAKING: Five-Star EDGE Carter Meadows has Committed to Michigan, he tells me for @on3recruits,' Hayes Fawcett said in a post. 'The 6'6 235 EDGE chose the Wolverines over Ohio State, Penn State, & South Carolina.' Carter Meadows had a message to share upon his commitment to the Michigan football team: 'I thank God for guiding me through it all,' he said. 'I'M HOME. Go Blue!!〽️〽️' Meadows is a five-star recruit according to On3, but according to 247Sports, he is a four-star. He is the #34 player in the 2026 recruiting class, the #5 EDGE and the top player in Washington, DC. Meadows currently attends Gonzaga High School in DC. Advertisement 'Spider-like pass rusher with exceptional physical specs, but one where the sack total has yet to match the big-league potential,' Meadows' scouting report reads. 'Can give opposing offensive tackles fits just with his stride length as he can run the arc and right into the quarterback. Has spent much of prep career attacking from a 5-technique in a four-man front. Wins more times than not with his top-flight athleticism as he pairs adequate get-off with slippery inside-outside agility, but further technical development will dictate pressure rate on Saturdays and beyond as he's got the levers to chop and swipe his way around the corner like few others.' Michigan has had a lot of talented players along its defensive line in recent years, and Meadows is good enough to be one of the next greats to come out of Ann Arbor. 'Makes his fair share of stops in backside pursuit with his closing speed, but has to get better at crushing blocks and holding his turf if he's going to make a living as an every-down defender,' the scouting report continues. 'Should be viewed as a high-upside edge player that has a chance to develop into an absolute game-wrecker at the Power Four level and then an early-round NFL Draft pick if he can soak up coaching and embrace the weight room. Might be worth a look in a hybrid off-the-ball role as spatial awareness fostered on the basketball court allows him to drop into zones and affect passing lanes.' Not too long ago, the 2026 Michigan football recruiting class had less than 10 commits and it wasn't close to being a top-10 class. Following this past week and this commitment from Carter Meadows, that has changed drastically. The Wolverines are recruiting with the best of the best. Brown has a chiseled frame that will easily carry more weight after he enters the Nittany Lions' strength program. But even more impressive than his frame is his motor. Brown is always ready to go and eager to plant opposing defenders in the turf. He's also remarkably consistent at these national events. Penn State has a future star on the way. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH PENN STATE FANS AT The future Ohio State Buckeye doesn't do many camps but you wouldn't know it after his performance at the Rivals Five-Star. He came very close to taking home MVP honors after some great reps during one-on-ones. Greer is highly-rated at No. 43 in the country but is still underrated. He's got a great basketball background as well. The Ohio native has future multi-year starter written all over him. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH OHIO STATE FANS AT Osenda is a massive offensive tackle prospect out of Tennessee. Because he's so tall, he carries his weight very well and it doesn't look like he weighs 330 pounds. He came in with the biggest wingspan at the camp (7-foot) and had some dominant moments during the camp. His improvement has been steady and he's one to watch in the future. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH TENNESSEE FANS AT The crown jewel of the Cal recruiting class gave the program a massive boost when he committed there. Standing at 6-foot-6, 335-pounds he's a monster offensive lineman that is hard to miss. But he's pretty agile for that size and rarely got beat during camp. Cal got an absolute steal here and their future quarterbacks and running backs will be thankful. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH CAL FANS AT
