Connor Goldson has Rangers fans in stitches as he goes full Joey Barton with surprise accent

The defender is now with Aris Limassol and raised eyebrows with his latest interview
It is now approaching 12 months since Connor Goldson left Rangers - and it appears he has already picked up a Cypriot accent following the transfer.
The centre-back spent six years at Ibrox and was a key member of Rangers' title-winning squad in 2021 and a pivotal figure in the team that reached a Europa League Final in Seville.

But last summer the experience 32-year-old defender made the move Aris Limassol - and has quickly embedded himself in the culture on the other side of the Mediterranean.

Speaking to Cypriot media, Goldson was asked about his time in Glasgow as well as in the English Premier League - and his ability to stay motivated with Aris.
The English defender appeared to have adopted a new accent, responding: "Ambition. I love football.
"Apart from my family, it's the one thing that I care about. I want to make my career as long as possible.
"If I can play until 38, 39 this what I will do. I work everyday for this, I try to keep my body as strong and as fit as possible.
"I want to try and stay at as high a level as I can for as long as possible. You know how football is, one year can be good and the next you can be forgotten quickly.
"I work before training, after training to keep my body healthy and try to prolong my career. I know that one it's over you don't get a chance again."

Rangers fans were quick to latch on to the interview - comparing it to Joey Barton's infamous press conference where he adopted a bizarre French accent during his time at Marseille.
One punter said on X: "Joey Barton eat your heart out. The big man is picking up the accent."
Another added: "He's only been gone a year where has that come from?"

A sympathetic Ibrox diehard added: "Deserves to enjoy himself over there, even with that accent."

Moonbeams Murray coming out of his cave makes the sober approach of Rangers' new regime all the more welcome, writes GARY KEOWN

No wild promises, talk of 'low-ego decision-making', a clear statement that this is about 'sustained winning and winning sustainably' rather than chucking money around willy-nilly, a determination to create a meritocracy in which a team of the best-available people will be 'empowered' to make decisions and then held accountable. That was the sales pitch chairman Andrew Cavenagh and vice-chair Paraag Marathe made to shareholders at the Rangers EGM as their consortium's £20million investment was rubberstamped last Monday. And you know what? From initial reactions, it feels like this was exactly the kind of sensible, bluster-free presentation that fans of the Ibrox club wanted to hear after a decade and more of disaster and chaos.

Semien's 10th-inning walk-off single lifts Rangers over Mariners

June 28 - Marcus Semien's bases-loaded single to right field in the bottom of the 10th inning scored Alejandro Osuna with the winning run as the Texas Rangers defeated the Seattle Mariners 3-2 on Saturday afternoon in the second of a three-game series between the American League West rivals in Arlington, Texas. Semien's decisive single -- the sixth walk-off hit of his career -- came off Mariners closer Andres Munoz (3-1) after Munoz hit Josh Smith with a pitch and walked Corey Seager to load the bases. Semien worked the count to full and fouled off two 100-mph pitches before pushing his single past second base in Seattle's drawn-in infield. Shawn Armstrong (3-3) was the beneficiary of the Rangers' uprising after striking out two in a perfect 10th inning as Texas' fifth pitcher of the game. The teams have split the first two games of this series, with the Mariners winning 7-6 in 12 innings on Friday. Both teams managed just six hits each on Saturday. Neither of the game's starting pitchers -- Bryan Woo for Seattle nor Kumar Rocker for the Rangers -- received a decision in the game that was decided in the final innings. Woo, who allowed two runs (neither of them earned) on five hits over six innings, remains the only pitcher in the Major Leagues to have gone at least six frames in every one of his 16 starts this season. Rocker gave up two runs on four hits and a walk with six strikeouts in his third start since being recalled from Triple A Round Rock on June 15. The Mariners struck first when Dominic Canzone ripped a solo home run to right field in the third inning. Texas responded and took the lead in the bottom of the frame as Seager's blasted a two-run homer off Woo, with both the runs unearned because of a throwing error by J.P. Crawford with two out that extended the inning. Seattle got back to even on Randy Arozarena's two-out single to center in the sixth that drove in Cal Raleigh, who had reached on a single. --Field Level Media

Lawrence Shankland to LEAVE Hearts as contract talks ‘break down' after club's final offer

Derek McInnes was hoping to hold onto him but time has run out EDIN AWAY Lawrence Shankland to LEAVE Hearts as contract talks 'break down' after club's final offer Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) LAWRENCE SHANKLAND is now all but certain to leave Hearts after final negotiations over a new contract broke down. The Jambos skipper didn't travel with the rest of the squad as they jetted out for their pre-season training camp in Spain. However, after months of talks it fell short of what Shankland wanted and according to the Daily Mail, there was only a minimal difference between the Edinburgh club's final offer and the previous deal that he'd already rejected. The Mail's report claims that Shankland was open to staying at Hearts but only for the right price, and ultimately concluded that chief executive Andrew McKinlay didn't share his ambitions. McInnes has already added striker Claudio Braga this summer, and Elton Kabangu's loan from Union Saint Gilloise was made permanent. But the former Kilmarnock manager will demand the search for another number nine is ramped up now that it looks like Shankland is quitting the capital after three years. The 29-year-old hit 67 goals during his time in Maroon, playing in 136 games across all competitions. He has been linked with a move to West Brom and mentions of Rangers have never gone away, both of whom would benefit from being able to snap him up as a free agent. We told you earlier this month that Hearts had made an offer for 19-year-old Nigerian striker Uchenna Ogundu, with a view to him helping to void the void left by Shankland departing. But reports suggest he is wanted by a number of clubs across Europe, both on the continent and in the UK. McInnes had previously said on Shankland: "I really feel Lawrence as part of a strong Hearts team can elevate himself. Rangers transfer special including Coady latest, why Turgeman move could be off & why Shankland's a no-brainer "I think he's capable of scoring 25-30 goals a season in the right team and used in the right way. "We can offer security. We can offer building a team and being part of a team that's trying to be successful."
