All American Boss Explains Why Season 7 Went Out on a Cliffhanger — Plus, the Latest on a Potential Renewal
The teen drama closed out its seventh season Monday night with the high-stakes playoff match-up between the Beverly High Eagles and the South Crenshaw Chargers. In the episode's final moments, Beverly was down 24-20, and it all came down to the last play of the game. Beverly quarterback KJ received the ball and threw a long, long pass to the opposite end of the field… but as Jordan, Cassius and every single spectator watched the ball soar through the air, the credits rolled before we could learn where it landed.

It's possible that cliffhanger could be All American's last scene ever, as the series has yet to be renewed for Season 8. But as co-showrunner Nkechi Okoro Carroll explains to TVLine, it was hard to pass up the opportunity for a 'symbolic' conclusion to Season 7, even if it meant leaving storylines unfinished.
'The football games between Beverly and Crenshaw — they're always so personal. And this season especially, it is so much bigger than the actual game,' she tells us. 'It is symbolic of the unresolved nature of the Jeremy family and the Baker family and their relationship, of the unresolved nature of Khalil and Amina's relationship, of this new generation's struggle. For us, who won that game and who gets to declare themselves the victor of everything that went down over the season felt like such a powerful way to end the episode, and — fingers crossed — allow us to come back in Season 8 to pick up with the results of that game and how it affects them moving forward.'
2025 Renewal and Cancellation Scorecard!

As for the show's yet-to-be-determined fate — which will likely be decided later this month, as broadcast networks unveil their 2025-26 lineups — Carroll says she hasn't gotten any indication from The CW about All American's renewal chances, but she's 'optimistic' about its potential to return.
'I mean, we haven't gotten a cancellation, so yay us?' the EP continues with a laugh. 'We're moving forward with our storyline ideas in hopes of getting a Season 8. We all know how this industry works, and there's so little we're in control of, but our hopes are that we will have another season and get to continue this story. Quite frankly, we've only just started to scratch the surface of this new generation. We're so energized about the stories we have to tell with KJ and Amina and Khalil, and the Baker and Jeremy legacy, now that they know they're family.'

Selena Gomez Reveals Her Surprising Dream Wedding Dessert for Upcoming Ceremony
Every item on this page was chosen by an ELLE editor. We may earn commission on some of the items you choose to buy. THE RUNDOWN Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco got engaged in December 2024, but not yet revealed their wedding plan. Fans have been wanting to know more details about the upcoming event, and the Only Murder in the Building star finally shared some this week. On her Rare Beauty brand's TikTok account, Gomez shared some of her thoughts on the reception, saying she had some ideas for the dessert. Traditionally, a big wedding cake is expected, but Gomez has other dreams. 'My preferred dessert would be biscuits and gravy,' she shared. 'My Nana's biscuits and gravy. That sounds like dessert to me.' She also explained, 'Whenever that day comes, I do know I don't want a big cake. I think I'd want a mini one, for just us, that we can freeze.' Gomez previously discussed the first dance between the bride and groom on an episode of Table Manners with Jessie and Lennie Ware, saying she was probably going to skip it. 'I don't think we're looking at having one of those 'cause they're a little—I feel embarrassed,' she said. But she was hoping to be escorted down the aisle by her grandfather. 'He never got a chance to walk my mom down the aisle,' she explained. 'I wanted to give [my grandfather] the opportunity to have that.' In July, Blanco discussed how planning is going on Jake Shane's podcast, Therapuss. The music producer said that they have both been so busy since the release of their album, I Said I Love You First. 'That's why we both need to chill,' Blanco explained. 'We've both been working so much. We got engaged, and then we were filming music videos for our album. Then it's holidays, then right after the holidays, we had to start all the promo for our stuff, do that. Then she left to film her show Only Murders [in the Building] and then I met her, then we hung out for a week, and then right after that, it's promo. And then I'm writing another book, so then I had to write a book, and then she came back for one day here. And then it was my birthday, and you know.' He continued, 'We're both working on so many things that we hadn't even had time to get into it, but we're so excited. I think this summer we're going to sit down and be like, 'Okay, what are we doing, hun?''

Spoiler alert: This story includes details from episodes of Season 3 of "The Gilded Age." In the aftermath of the wedding of the century between Gladys Russell (Taissa Farmiga) and the Duke of Buckingham (Ben Lamb), cracks are beginning to appear in the Russell household with George Russell (Morgan Spector) and his wife, Bertha (Carrie Coon), at dagger's end. Bertha is also livid when she finds out Larry Russell has proposed to Marian Brook (Louisa Jacobson), who she deems unworthy of trophy wife status. While the Russells, who stood "poised to take their place at the head of society," according to the season synopsis, are struggling with their own issues, including when a familiar face no one was expecting made a comeback. Maud Beaton, the woman who conned Oscar (Blake Ritson) out of his entire family fortune, was spotted at The Haymarket by Larry. She is now going by the name Dolly Trent. From "Downton Abbey" creator Julian Fellowes, "The Gilded Age" follows high society and the battle between "old money" and "new money" in 1800s New York. "Bertha sets her sights on a prize that would elevate the family to unimaginable heights while George risks everything on a gambit that could revolutionize the railroad industry — if it doesn't ruin him first," the synopsis says, adding that "across the street, the Brook household is thrown into chaos as Agnes refuses to accept Ada's new position as lady of the house." "As all of New York hastens toward the future, their ambition may come at the cost of what they truly hold dear," it concludes. The lavish period drama returned for its third season on June 22 to record-high viewership. New PEACEMAKER Season 2 Trailer Showcases Chris' Dream Universe
After a three-year wait, Peacemaker is finally launching its second season this summer. The HBO Max series became the surprise hit of 2022. And fans have been eagerly awaiting more of this spin-off from James Gunn's The Suicide Squad. And this season will actually deal with the fallout of the events of Superman, in which John Cena's Peacemaker made a small but memorable cameo. Head of DC Studios and Peacemaker showrunner James Gunn and the cast were on hand to introduce the latest trailer for the second season at Comic-Con. And you can watch it in full right here: Despite the first season of Peacemaker taking place in the old DCEU, James Gunn's teaser firmly sets the story in the wake of the events of Superman. Even the Justice Gang characters have a role this season. But most of Peacemaker's history from The Suicide Squad and season one will remain canon to his future going forward. Gunn has also said the explanation for the changes within the story will be easy for viewers to understand. Season two will continue just a few short years after the events of season one. John Cena, of course, returns as our favorite jerkwad superhero, Christopher Smith/Peacemaker. Other returning cast members include Danielle Brooks, Jennifer Holland, Freddie Stroma, and Steve Agee. Also returning is Robert Patrick, who plays Peacemaker's good dad. New cast members added include Frank Grillo, reprising his Creature Commandos role as Rick Flag Sr., along with David Denman and Tim Meadows. Longtime Gunn favorite Michael Rooker plays a new character this year, Red St. Wild. He's described as 'a nemesis to Peacemaker's eagle companion, Eagly.' James Gunn wrote all eight episodes of season two, and also directed three of them. Peacemaker season two drops on HBO Max on August 21. Solve the daily Crossword
