Packers' Jordan Love Called Out Ahead of Pivotal 2025 Season

The Green Bay Packers and Jordan Love enter the 2025 NFL season with big expectations. They expect to be a top-tier contender in the NFC and one of the top Super Bowl contenders in the entire league.
Over the last couple of years since Aaron Rodgers departed, Love has been able to lead the Packers to the playoffs in each season. However, the team has been eliminated in the Divisional Round of the playoffs and in the Wild Card.
In the third year with Love as the team's starter, the expectations have increased.

After suffering a knee injury in Week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles, Love never got rolling. He had a solid season, but it wasn't great. Love's performance left a lot to be desired.
Heading into the 2025 campaign, Love has received a new major warning.
NFL insider Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk has issued a strong message to Love. He believes that the Green Bay quarterback will be on the hot seat if he doesn't pick up his level of play.
"He's not on the hot seat per se, but he needs to play better in 2025 than he did in 2024," Florio said. "If not, he will be on the hot seat in 2026. The wild card in Green Bay is new CEO Ed Policy, who operates as the de facto owner of the team."
That strong warning is warranted. Love is getting paid like a top quarterback in the NFL. He needs to start producing at that level.
During the 2024 campaign, Love played in 15 regular season games. He completed 63.1 percent of his pass attempts for 3,389 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.

While the overall production was solid, there were quite a few games where Love was a non-factor. That cannot keep happening if the Packers are going to be a legitimate Super Bowl contender.
Entering the 2025 season, Love has a ton of weapons and another offseason of work. He should show an improved version of himself. If he doesn't, Green Bay may need to have some tough conversations.
Hopefully, all of this is completely put to rest by Love. He's more than capable of a breakout season, but he needs to show it on the field.

Series Preview #30: Diamondbacks @ Padres
The Diamondbacks head to San Diego to take on the Padres. The Friars go into the series tied with the Giants for the final wild card position, while Arizona is 4.5 games back and the fan base is losing hope. If there is to be any chance of being buyers at the deadline, this is a must win series (Sorry, running late for work, so this is going to be a quick one) Advertisement Game 1 — 7/7, 6:40 PM — Zac Gallen (6-9, 5.54 ERA, 77 ERA+, 1.63 WHIP) vs Yu Darvish (First start) Yu Darvish will take the mound for the first time in the 2025 season. He had been out with elbow inflammation since Spring Training, something of a little extra concern since he has had one Tommy John surgery already. Those fears seem to be behind them now, as he'll face off against the Diamondbacks in game 1. Game 2 — 7/8, 6:40PM — Merrill Kelly (7-4, 3.55 ERA, 118 ERA+, 1.087 WHIP) vs. Nick Pivetta (9-2, 3.25 ERA, 127 ERA+, 1.04 WHIP) Pivetta was an offseason signing for the Padres who has worked out very well. He's had a couple games where he's given up four or more runs, but overall, he's kept the Padres in the games he's started, all while pitching into the sixth inning. Really, I see a lot of similarities in his results to Merrill Kelly, his opposite in this game. Advertisement Game 3 — 7/9, 6:40 PM — Brandon Pfaadt (8/6, 5.42 ERA, 77 ERA+, 1.38 WHIP) vs. Dylan Cease (3-8, 4.62 ERA, 90 ERA+, 1.32 WHIP) Cease is having a down year compared to last season where he got Cy Young votes. By ERA+, he's below average, and the Padres are just .500 in games that he's started. In the last four games, he has given up four or more runs three times, and this might be the best chance the Diamondbacks get when facing a pitcher of Cease's overall caliber. Game 4 — 7/10, 6/40 PM — Eduardo Rodriguez (3-5, 5.78 ERA, 72 ERA+, 1.62 WHIP) vs. Randy Vasquez (3-4, 3.79 ERA, 109 ERA+, 1.36 WHIP) Vasquez has had a good run this season. He doesn't go deep into games, but he's been preventing runs during those innings, which is all a team can ask for. He might be a bit on the lucky side, though, as his FIP is a run and a half higher than his ERA. Advertisement Conclusion I don't think most of us are under the delusion that the Diamondbacks are contenders right now. They aren't so far back that there is no possibility that could change, but it's looking more and more unlikely every game. There best chance to make a statement is in this series and make up some serious ground against a division rival. Doesn't seem super likely with the scary trio of Gallen, Pfaadt, and Rodriguez all starting in the same stretch. Hopefully the extra day of rest is exactly what they needed. Best case scenario, however, I see this as a series split. More from

EA Sports College Football 26 includes major opt-out within UNC football program
Who is UNC's major opt-out for EA Sports College Football 26? College football fans and gamers were able to get access to EA Sports College Football 26 on Monday, as the game was available for early access for those who preordered the game. For fans who want to play as North Carolina, there is a noticeable omission from the game if you look on the sidelines in Chapel Hill. Head coach Bill Belichick is one of 12 coaches who declined to be in the game for this year's version . Instead, UNC fans will notice a computer-generated "Hector Luna" roaming the Kenan Stadium sidelines. Joining Belichick amongst head coaches to decline invites: Colorado's Deion Sanders,Miami's (FL) Mario Cristobal, Iowa's Kirk Ferentz, Utah State's Bronco Mendenhall, Western Kentucky's Tyson Helton, Jacksonville State's Charles Kelly, Stanford's Frank Reich, UAB's Trent Dilfer, Louisiana-Monroe's Bryant Vincent, New Mexico's Jason Eck and Kent State's Mark Carney. This isn't anything unusual for Belichick, as he didn't give his likeness to the Madden franchise in past years of the game as well. Belichick hasn't coached in the NFL since 2024, but during games, Madden likes to reference dynasties, past history and other memorable moments to make gameplay more interesting. Despite Belichick's long history of NFL success, highlighted by eight Super Bowl Championships and 17 AFC East Titles, 2025 will be his first as a college coach. North Carolina reshaped a large part of its projected fall 2025 roster through the transfer portal, landed commitments from several touted class of 2025 and 2026 recruits, plus stole commitments from other programs. Though EA Sports' CFB 26 release is an exciting moment for many sports fans and gamers across the country, it's likely the least of Belichick's worries right now. The Tar Heels are in desperate need of a return to relevancy, which Belichick has a strong capability to bring. Commanders Make Decision On Name Change After President Trump's Suggestion
Commanders Make Decision On Name Change After President Trump's Suggestion originally appeared on The Spun. The Washington Commanders have made a decision on a possible name change following a suggestion by President Donald J. Trump. Advertisement President Trump made it clear this week that he wasn't a fan of the Washington NFL franchise going away from the Redskins. He said that if he was running the team, he wouldn't have changed the name. 'You want me to make a controversial statement? I would,' Trump said to the reporter outside of Air Force One. 'I wouldn't have changed the name,' he continued. 'It just doesn't have the same — it doesn't have the same ring to me.' President Trump, though, admitted that one thing will make things better - winning. 'But, you know, winning can make everything sound good. So if they win, all of a sudden the Commanders sounds good, but I wouldn't have changed the name,' the president added. Advertisement Washington got rid of its Redskins name in 2020. For two years, the team was known as the Washington Football Team, before making the switch to the Commanders in 2022. Fans of the team have been calling for the franchise to go back to the Redskins or perhaps a different name. However, Washington Commanders owner Josh Harris previously announced that a decision had already been made. There would be no name change. 'I think it's now embraced by our team, by our culture, by our coaching staff. So we're going with that,' he said at a press conference earlier this year.
