Police arrest 11 men in cockfighting raid
State police chief Datuk Mohd Khairi Khairudin said the suspects, aged between 32 and 56, were engaged in cockfighting behind a house in Kampung Atas Tol, here, when the raid was conducted at about 12.30pm.
He said the raid was conducted following intelligence gathering by the D7 branch of the state police with the cooperation of the State Veterinary Services Department.
The police also seized four roosters, a cockfighting bond, RM5,823 and a bag containing needles, thread and red medical bandages, he said.
He said all the suspects tested negative for drugs, and the case is being investigated under Section 7 (2) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 and Section 32 (1) of the Animal Welfare Act 2015.

Bus accident in Ayer Hitam involved 45 Indonesian workers
BATU PAHAT: A tour bus transporting 45 Indonesian plantation workers was involved in a serious accident at Kilometer 80.7 of the North-South Expressway near Ayer Hitam early this morning. The workers had just arrived from Lombok, Indonesia, and were en route to Johor Bahru when the collision occurred. According to Jati Heri Winarto, Consul of the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Johor Bahru, the group consisted of 55 workers who landed at Kuala Lumpur International Airport around 9 pm. While 10 workers took a van, the remaining 45 boarded the ill-fated bus. The accident, which also involved two lorries, resulted in two fatalities. The victims were identified as Hidirman, 43, and Zulhadi, 44, who died at the scene. Another worker, Nusiah, suffered severe injuries, including the loss of her left hand and fractured ribs, and remains under treatment at Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital. Fourteen other workers sustained minor injuries and were discharged after receiving medical attention. Firefighters confirmed that the crash occurred around 12:27 am, leaving two dead and 16 injured. Jati Heri stated that the Indonesian Consulate is coordinating the repatriation of the deceased and seeking compensation through the Social Security Organisation. Meanwhile, Batu Pahat District Police Chief ACP Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani explained that the bus collided with a tanker lorry being towed by another lorry. The bus driver suffered shoulder, rib, and hand injuries, while five passengers reported head pain. The drivers of the lorries and other passengers escaped unharmed. Communication company staff claims trial to CBT charges
The Kota Kinabalu Court Complex. KOTA KINABALU (July 3): A finance executive cum accountant of a communication company claimed trial in a Sessions Court here on Thursday to three charges of committing criminal breach of trust. Rabiahtul Adawiah Pastor, 33, who appeared before judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan, was charged under Section 408 of the Penal Code. The indictment provides for a jail term of up to 14 years and whipping or with a fine, upon conviction. On the first to the third counts, she was accused of embezzling RM273,802.64, RM263,758.50 and RM49,330 respectively, by transferring the alleged money to three companies' bank accounts. The alleged offences were committed at the communication company between January 6, 2022 and October 30, 2023, between January 14, 2022 and October 27, 2023 and between November 30, 2022 and October 27, 2023, respectively. The court fixed August 5 for her case management. Rabiahtul who was represented by counsel Sharatha Masyaroh John Ridwan Lincon, was released on RM5,000 bail for all the three charges with two local sureties.

Police seize RM10.5 million contraband in Kuching raids
KUCHING: The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) uncovered contraband worth over RM10 million in a major crackdown on smuggling activities in Kuching, Sarawak. The operation, conducted yesterday, targeted two storage facilities used to hoard illegal goods. Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department (KDNKA) director Datuk Seri Azmi Abu Kassim confirmed the arrests of three individuals—two locals and an Indonesian national—aged between 30 and 64. The seized items, valued at RM10,500,028, included large quantities of liquor and cigarettes. The raids, codenamed Op Taring Alpha 1 and Op Taring Alpha 2, were executed with support from the Sarawak Brigade General Operations Force (PGA). At the first location, authorities recovered 648 litres of liquor, 90,000 white cigarettes, 51,200 kretek cigarettes, and a mobile phone. The second raid yielded 4,190,000 white cigarettes, 24,320 kretek cigarettes, a van, and another mobile phone. Azmi highlighted that since January 1 this year, Bukit Aman KDNKA has conducted 155 operations nationwide, leading to 236 arrests and seizures worth RM443.85 million. He urged public cooperation in reporting smuggling activities, stressing their economic and security risks. 'Smuggling activities and the sale of untaxed goods not only impact the nation's revenue, but could also pose a threat to border security if not tackled comprehensively,' said Azmi. - Bernama
