1,298 Sabah Schools To Participate In Internet Safety Campaign
Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching said the campaign will be implemented in phases, focusing on promoting online safety through educational outreach to students.
'Sekolah Menengah Holy Trinity in Tawau is the first secondary school in the district to implement KIS, using a specially designed module for students aged 13 to 17, involving 290 participants.
'The objective of the module is to raise awareness among students about Internet safety, including the risks involved, their responsibilities to themselves and other users, as well as the long-term impact of Internet use,' she said in a statement today.
Teo, who is currently on a working visit to Sabah, attended the KIS programme at Sekolah Menengah Holy Trinity.
She expressed hope that through the module, students will be able to distinguish between genuine and false information online by identifying the characteristics of facts versus misinformation, as well as assess the risks of openly sharing personal information.
"Students are also expected to recognise signs of online grooming and be better prepared with self-protection strategies," she added.
She said the campaign aims to equip students with critical thinking and empathy-based decision-making skills, enabling them to make safe and responsible choices when navigating the digital space.

KUALA LUMPUR, July 21 (Bernama) -- The Auditor General's (AG) Report 2/2025 has revealed significant weaknesses in the procurement management and administration of the Malaysian Army's (TDM) armoured vehicle contracts, which could potentially expose the government to the risk of loss. According to AG Report 2/2025 tabled in the Dewan Rakyat today, there were contracts worth RM7.8 billion involving major armoured vehicles during the audit period from 2020 to 2023, namely GEMPITA, PENDEKAR, ADNAN, LIPAN BARA and MIFV. The contracts were supposed to support TDM's readiness to become a modern land force capable of defending Malaysia's sovereignty, but delays and administrative weaknesses have undermined the achievement of that objective. 'Among the key findings was a significant delay in the supply of 68 GEMPITA vehicles by a local company, which resulted in a fine of RM162.75 million which was only claimed on Jan 15, 2025, 746 days (two years and 15 days) after the contract expired on Dec 31, 2022.' 'The audit also found that the government had made the full payment of RM7.52 billion despite the company failing to comply with the agreed delivery schedule, while the contract performance bond of RM53.93 million which expired on Dec 31, 2024 was also found to be insufficient to cover the amount of the fine,' the report said. The review for the same period also found delays in maintenance, repair and spare parts supply services for GEMPITA, ADNAN and PENDEKAR vehicles, with an estimated fine of RM1.42 million still not imposed as of end 2023, despite the service being 227 days late. 'The report also reprimanded the implementation of procurement in small batches by several Responsibility Centres (PTJ) which violated financial regulations, involving direct purchases and quotations totalling RM107.54 million for the period 2020 to 2023, while procurement exceeding RM500,000 per year should have been through open tenders,' the report said. In addition, the absence of major contracts for several types of vehicles such as MIFV and LIPAN BARA during the audit period forced PTJs to implement ad hoc procurement, thus increasing governance risks. The Ministry of Defence explained that the delays were due to factors beyond their control including the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO), but the audit stressed that measures such as issuing fine notices should have been implemented while the contract was still in force to protect the government's interests.

KPKT Selects Kampung Tok Kepak For MADANI Adopted Village Programme 2025
ALOR SETAR, July 21 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) has selected Kampung Tok Kepak in Kodiang as one of the locations for the 2025 MADANI Adopted Village Programme (KAM). In a statement, the ministry said the programme aligns with the government's efforts to narrow the development gap between rural and urban areas under the MADANI aspiration. A total of 15 high-impact projects have been planned and are underway in the village. These include five under KPKT's KAM 2025 initiative, four under the BP1 Assistance Programme, two from the Urban Community Development Programme (PPKB), two by the National Landscape Department (JLN), one by the Kedah ICU, and one by the Ministry of Education (MOE). 'These projects focus on both physical and social development, aiming to enhance the quality of life for Kampung Tok Kepak residents, especially in terms of public facilities, economic opportunities, and community empowerment,' the statement read. Among the completed projects is the demolition and reconstruction of the village community hall, a collaborative effort between the Department of Local Government (JKT) and the Kubang Pasu Municipal Council (MPKP). The upgraded facility, now known as the Kampung Tok Kepak Community Hall, was officially launched on July 19 by KPKT secretary-general Datuk Wira M Noor Azman Taib. During the event, he expressed hope that the new hall would serve as a hub for community activities and be well cared for by local residents for their shared benefit. Other projects currently in progress under the KAM initiative include road resurfacing, upgrades to the KEMAS preschool and Tok Kepak Mosque, enhancements to Sekolah Kebangsaan Tok Kepak, installation of LED streetlights, landscaping works, and the construction and repair of homes for eligible residents. Sarawak Day 2025: Governor urges unity for brighter future
KUCHING: Sarawak Governor Tun Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar has urged the people of Sarawak to stay united and collaborate with both government and private sectors to secure a prosperous future for the state. His message, commemorating Sarawak Day, highlighted the historical significance of July 22, 1963, when administrative power was transferred from British rule to Sarawak's first local government led by Chief Minister Tan Sri Stephen Kalong Ningkan. 'This event marked a pivotal step in preparing Sarawak to join Malaysia alongside Sabah, Singapore, and Malaya. 'The transfer occurred before Sarawak officially became part of the Federation on September 16, 1963,' he said.
