College football fans, especially those cheering for Texas or Ohio State, have Aug. 30 circled and highlighted on their calendars. On that day, the Buckeyes begin their national title defense against the Longhorns, in a rematch of last season's College Football Playoff semifinal at AT&T Stadium.

The game at Ohio Stadium will mark the start of a new era for Texas. Barring something unexpected, Arch Manning will start behind center for the Longhorns, replacing the NFL-bound Quinn Ewers, to begin what fans back in Austin hope is a championship-worthy campaign.
The redshirt sophomore Manning is the betting favorite to win the Heisman Trophy, two months before the 2025 kicks off. And according to his uncle, Peyton Manning, Arch is set to enjoy a "huge advantage" as he takes over the Texas offense.
"The fact that (Steve) Sarkisian calls the plays, that Arch has been there two years already and is going to know the system, that's going to be a huge advantage for him," Peyton Manning told ESPN's Pat McAfee on Monday. "I'm looking forward to seeing him get out there on the field."

Peyton Manning, who played in the NFL for 17 years and won two Super Bowls, spoke about the frustration that quarterbacks feel if their coaches and coordinators are constantly shuffled each year. He remarked that he was lucky to work with offensive guru Tom Moore for the entirety of his 13-year stint with the Indianapolis Colts.
"(Bill) Belichick gave (Tom) Brady some different coordinators, but it was the same system," Manning said. "(Nick) Saban made his new coordinators learn his system. So does Kirby (Smart)."
With this stability already in place in Austin, Peyton Manning believes his nephew's familiarity with Sarkisian's concepts will make his transition to the starting job a smoother one and could lead to a memorable season for the Longhorns.

Angel Reese fed up with WNBA officiating: ‘I'm tired of this'

Angel Reese voiced her displeasure with the way she and the Chicago Sky have been officiated throughout the season. Reese aired her grievances following the Sky's 80-75 loss at the Minnesota Lynx on Sunday — a game in which the Lynx outshot the Sky 17-8 at the foul line. 'It's tough when you talk to officials, and I ask them, 'Hey, we only shot two — we only been to the free-throw line twice, up until the fourth quarter,'' Reese said. 'And she tells me its not her job. It's frustrating because I know how hard we're battling inside and I think we came down and fought as hard as we could inside. That has to be fixed. Advertisement 'I don't give a damn if I get fined because that s— cheap, and I'm tired of this s—. I've been nice and I've been humble, but I'm tired of this s—.' The Sky average 18.3 free throws, ranking 10th among the league's 13 franchises. The Washington Mystics lead the league at 24.6 free throws per game. The Seattle Storm rank last at 15.9 per game. Reese, who averages 12.6 points, 12.8 rebounds and 3.8 assists, is attempting 4.4 free throws per game, ranking 13th among all players. Sunday's loss dropped the Sky to 5-12 on the season, while the Lynx, who own the WNBA's best record improved to 17-2.

USC football picks up projection to land Class of 2027 four-star QB Peyton Houston

While USC football is still continuing to put together its top-ranked 2026 recruiting class, it is never too early to start thinking about 2027. It seems Lincoln Riley and Chad Bowden have been doing that. On Monday, the Trojans picked up a projection from Steve Wiltfong and Sam Spiegelman of Rivals to land four-star class of 2027 quarterback Peyton Houston. Houston plays high school football in Cotton Valley, Louisiana. Per the On3 Industry rankings, he is the No. 78 overall player and the No. 8 quarterback in the class of 2027. If USC is able to land Houston, it would mark the third consecutive recruiting cycle that the Trojans secured a QB ranked among the top 100 players in his class. USC signed five-star Husan Longstreet this past year, and currently hold a commitment from four-star Jonas Williams in the class of 2026. It is easy to see why quarterbacks are lining up to play for Riley. Across his time at USC and Oklahoma, he has produced three Heisman Trophy-winning QBs, all of whom went on to be selected No. 1 overall in the NFL Draft. A fourth, Jalen Hurts, was the 2019 Heisman runner-up, and just led the Philadelphia Eagles to a Super Bowl championship. If all three quarterbacks stick with the Trojans, it could set up a potentially loaded QB competition down the line. For now, however, USC enters the 2025 season with Jayden Maiava as the expected starter, with Longstreet and Sam Huard also competing for the job.
