Member of former royal family, Chaitanya Raj Singh argued that the map incorrectly portrays Jaisalmer as part of the historical Maratha Empire.
The Class 8 Social Science textbook published by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has faced criticism after a former member of Jaisalmer's royal family highlighted a historical inaccuracy in one of its maps. On Monday evening, Chaitanya Raj Singh, a member of Jaisalmer's former royal family, took to social media platform 'X' to denounce the map on page 71 of Unit 3 of the NCERT textbook. He argued that the map incorrectly portrays Jaisalmer as part of the historical Maratha Empire, labeling the claim as 'factless, historically misleading, and seriously objectionable."
He stressed that such factual inaccuracies in educational materials undermine the credibility of national institutions and insult the legacy of those who defended the state's sovereignty and pride through generations.
'The map shown in the NCERT Social Science textbook for Class 8 (Unit 3, page number 71) depicts Jaisalmer as a part of the then Maratha Empire, which is historically misleading, factually baseless, and deeply objectionable. Such unverified and historically unsubstantiated information not only raises questions about the credibility of institutions like NCERT but also hurts our glorious history and public sentiments," he posted on X.
'This is not just a matter of factual correction but is connected to our historical dignity, self-respect, and the integrity of the national curriculum. Prompt and concrete action is expected on this matter," he added.

Singh has called for an immediate correction and appealed to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to take prompt action, stating that the error disrespects the dignity and historical truth of the Jaisalmer state. He emphasised that Jaisalmer, founded in 1178 CE by Rawal Jaisal of the Bhati clan, has no recorded history of Maratha control, taxation, or invasion. Singh noted that even the Mughals were unable to conquer Jaisalmer, which remained an independent princely state for centuries before integrating into the Indian Republic after independence.

Madras HC directs Tamil Nadu govt to take decision on quota for transgenders

Chennai, Aug 5 (PTI) The Madras High Court has directed the Tamil Nadu government to take a decision on reservation for transgender and intersex persons, so that they need not knock the doors of the court every time seeking quota in public employment and in educational institutions. Justice N Anand Venkatesh gave the directive while passing interim orders on Monday on a petition filed by N Sushma and U Semma Agarval and posted to September 15, further hearing of the case. The judge placed on record his appreciation over the state government unveiling the Tamil Nadu State Policy for Transgender Persons 2025, made effective from July 31, 2025. Extracting the suggestions made by the authorities, the judge said amongst all the suggestions made, one important suggestion that requires immediate consideration pertains to Clause 3.7 of the policy which uses the term 'Right to Representation in Employment and Educational Institution". It was not clear as to whether the government wants to provide horizontal reservation to the transgender and intersex persons which has always been the request made by the community and which has been reflected in many of the earlier orders passed by the various courts including the judgment of this court. Hence the state government was directed to take a decision in this regard, the judge added. The judge said the Additional Public Prosecutor submitted that insofar as the policy for LGBQA+, the same was under process and sometime was required to finalise the same. Now that the state government has come out with a policy for transgender and intersex persons, 'it is time that the government comes up with a policy for LGBQA+ persons also. This process should be expedited," the judge added. PTI COR VGN KH view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Congress urges EC to extend deadline for voter list inclusion in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 5 (PTI) The opposition Congress in Kerala has urged the Election Commission to extend the deadline for adding names to the voters' list for the upcoming local body elections in the state. The party pointed out that after the voters' list was published on July 23, only 15 days—till August 7—were given for new additions. Leader of Opposition V D Satheesan submitted a letter to the Election Commission in this regard, the details of which were shared with the media by his office on Tuesday. In his letter, Satheesan highlighted that the online process for adding and correcting names, as well as transferring names from one ward to another, has faced technical glitches across many regions. 'As the deadline for registration approaches, the technical glitches are worsening. There are widespread complaints that the website is frequently hanging," the letter stated. He also noted that many individuals have been unable to register due to these technical issues, and several names from the previous voters' list have been omitted from the current one. In light of these concerns, Satheesan requested that the deadline for voter registration be extended by another 15 days to ensure all eligible voters are included. The dates for the local body elections are yet to be announced. Marketing Job Or Debate Club? Candidate Quizzed On Politics In ‘Technical' Interview

Last Updated: Going to an interview for a digital marketing gig led to a bizarre experience for a woman, who revealed she was asked about her political leanings. An interview for a marketing professional role left a woman puzzled as she confronted queries about her political views. Detailing her bizarre experience in a viral post, this individual caught the attention when she claimed she had been asked questions about her political leanings even as she applied for a digital marketing specialist's gig. While the first two rounds of the interview were perfect with all the expected job-related questions asked, an unexpected twist awaited the lady, who was left stunned when the creative director at the agency asked her about the latest political developments and what her stance was on the same. 'In the final interview with the creative director, things got weird. We were talking about social media campaigns, and he suddenly goes: 'So what's your stance on all the political stuff happening lately? We need to make sure our team is aligned on messaging," the user wrote in her Reddit post. Midway through the political questioning, the woman said she tried to redirect the conversation to something less awkward by highlighting the job-specific points. The effort went in vain, as the creative director carried on asking about her political leanings and the leaders she supports. 'I've been in marketing for 6 years, and this was a new one. I kept it professional and said I believed in following campaign briefs and client guidelines, but the whole vibe shifted after that. He seemed disappointed I wouldn't give him a straight political answer," she wrote. Political Views Sought During The Interview Divides Opinions The marketing professional said she had sent a thank-you email, but got no response from the company, which was overly obsessed with her political views rather than her accomplishments. Despite the company's improper interview process, however, the woman's post polarised opinions. While some sympathised with her, others believed such questions are asked to assess whether the candidate will fit into the company's culture. 'Depends on the company and it would probably be a concern, but phrasing that question this way is pretty weird. If they're not explicitly one side, then that would be an issue," commented one user. 'If you're working for Black Rifle Coffee vs. Ben & Jerry's or something, it would probably matter." 'But I'm not applying to a company that strongly and explicitly aligns itself with something I don't support to begin with. If it wasn't explicitly obvious by the company, my question would be 'what is the team's messaging?' ' First Published: News viral Marketing Job Or Debate Club?
