Good Boy – K-drama Episode 11 Recap & Review

Countdown
Episode 11 of Good Boy starts with us in Sao Paulo 2018 with Dong-ju competing for the gold. He points out how, in boxing, you have to wait for an opening and strike when the moment presents itself.
This cuts us back to the present, as Dong-ju leaves another illegal business with a pile of dead bodies in his wake. However, this has also taken a toll on his relationship with Han-na too.
While Man-sik continues to wallow in self-pity over what's transpired, Gwang-se is in the line of fire. A warning goes out looking for a chubby male in his 40's with a bald eagle tattoo. He meets with Man-sik undercover (or at least the best he can!) and isn't happy about the 'waste of tax payer funds'.
He does know though that Gwang-se is feeding Dong-ju inside info and demands to know where he is.
Elsewhere, Jong-hyeon returns to the station and is called in by Forensics to take a look at a file. There are 2 unidentified bodies here and it brings him on a collision course with Han-na and the others, who are also out investigating in their own way. Han-na is piecing together fragments of the Oh Dollar case.
Han-na receives the name of a shady area called Hyedong Oil, which is precisely where Man-sik and Jong-hyeon are also situated. As everybody scrambles to the rooftop, the group are joined together in harmony as they fight off a bunch of gangsters. Even Gwang-se helps by pushing barrels at them!
Afterwards, Dong-ju speaks to the team about his findings. He admits that he's beaten a whole bunch of guys for their watches but even now, he's not got any answers. He knows there's a whole load of money behind this operation but nobody seems to know its origin. Except for Ju-young of course.
Jong-hyeon may actually have a bit of a clue though. Remember the dead bodies he learned about with forensics? Well, one of the bodies was missing his front teeth so their thinking is that it could be Silver Bunny. If he's dead, this would mean Gold Bunny may actually talk to themabout what he knows.
Now, trhe bad guys are actually held up over in Insung City, at the Goldengate Central City construction site to be precise. Ju-young tasks Jong-gu qwith overseeing operations for the time being, which doesn't go over well, while Ju-young decides to use Mr Baek to distribute out drugs in Insung City, but doing so quietly behind Yeon-ha's back.
Yeon-ha is still clinging to hope that she'll see her sister, and she's being worked to exhaustion. Leo actually helps her out and offers her a boat ride back to Russia too. However, Yeon-ha is determined to do right by her sister, given she made a promise back in the day to come for her and they pinky-promised. You certainly don't break one of those!
Meanwhile, Ju-young invites Dong-ju out for lunch. He's paying of course, so Dong-ju stuffs his face. He isn't deterred by Ju-young's threats and seems in a much more upbeat mood compared to the last time they met. It seems like he has the upper-hand.
As for Ju-young, he's bitter and discontent with life and believes nothing good comes from working hard.
Flashbacks show more of this, with Ju-young originally on the straight and narrow, working hard to pass his civil service exam. That is, until smugglers found him and beat the guy down.
Having heard his life aspirations, the smuggler sees potential and offers him more money and a way to get ahead of the masses. With one of these watches we've been seeing so much of, Ju-young ditched the straight and narrow, embracing going all-in as a criminal.
Jong-hyeon heads over with the DNA results to the prison, which confirm Silver Bunny was their guy. Golden Bunny then talks, revealing that Ju-young is on another level. He has unimaginable wealth, and he doesn't count it like normal people – he weighs it. In tons. All of Insung runs by his money, from top to bottom.
Ju-young has basically turned this entire city into his own playground. This is where Oh Dollar comes into it. One of the Russians who used to work under him now works with Ju-young, whose name is Sergei Vronsky. He was also a witness with the Oh Dollar murder case, and Dong-ju has actually seen the guy before.
They're not going to call back-up though (I mean they haven't for the whole season so why start now?) and they can't really get Jae-hong to jump onboard too, given he has kids to provide for, it's not so easy for him to abandon everything.
The group do eventually track down Sergei and learn that he can actually speak Korean (the subtitles say he's 'speaking English but that's obviously not true. Ignore Amazon's terrible subtitles here!)
With the façade slipped, the group bring Sergei back to their hideout and spook him into talking. Sergei reveals there's a cash container but it could be hidden in 53 different places. They need to find it before Ju-young catches on to what they're doing, giving them a tight window of time. They need to pretend like nothing is going on so as not to arouse attention.
Dong-ju does continue to provoke Ju-young through all of this, sending him numerous selfies, while they slowly cross off each location over the nights.
Ju-young starts to catch wind of what's happening eventually, given all the photos Dong-ju has taken. One in particular involves a shipping container at the dock. When he learns about the autopsy report for Silver Bunny too, he heads off to the dock, where he finds a shipping container… and all his money gone.
As he screams to the heavens, angered by this, the rest of the team observe and listen to his screams. It seems the tide may be turning now.
The Episode Review
So it seems Jae-hong has officially been relegated to the backburner in this series which is disappointing to be honest because his character arc is actually quite good.
We do learn about Ju-young's past a bit here though and understanding how he turned to a life of crime. He's clearly equated money with success and done everything he possibly can to obtain as much as he can, regardless of who he hurts along the way.
This is not dissimilar to Ironheart of course, which debuted earlier this week with the exact same arc. Only, Riri is framed as a hero, go figure.
Back to Good Boy though, and this episode now starts to evolve the plot in ways that doesn't just see our good guys beaten to a pulp and left reeling. They're not on the front foot and it'll be interesting to see how Ju-young reacts.
If this guy has his hand in every business though, he should be absolutely rolling in it right? It would be akin to stealing a bunch of cash from Jeff Bezos – sure it would put a dent in his bank balance, but he'd accumulate it back simply through interest and business ventures.
The idea of an entire city being built on blood money is an interesting one, but it also means that this guy should be nigh-on impossible to take out unless you get to the heart of the issue or expose the root cause of corruption.
As I said before, I hope the show doesn't go the route of Itaewon Class and throws in a last minute twist to take him down. However, the ending does seem to hint that things are about to pick up in a big way so we'll have to wait and see what the writers have cooking.

EXCLUSIVE Police launch probe after pensioner 'hurled abuse at nursery worker and smacked phone out of her hand' in vicious row over PARKING

Police have launched an investigation after a video of a pensioner hurling abuse at a female nursery worker and hitting her phone several times in a ferocious row over parking has gone viral. Hertfordshire Constabulary has said they received reports of an elderly man holding a screwdriver, and hitting the victim's phone as she held it, but the tool can't be seen in the clip. The woman, who says she is 21, filmed the enraged pensioner as he lashed out at her for parking outside the Silver Birch Court residential home as he pointed to the 'two notices' before adding: 'You've driven past both of 'em!' Explaining how she had been working at the nearby nursery in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, the woman said there were 'loads of places' to park in the space - sparking the row to descend into vitriol. 'I don't give a f***! You're illegally parked, there are two notices there that tell you not to park, it's private property and you've been here all day,' he shouted. When the nursery worker retorted claiming she had been in the space for around four hours, bringing out her timesheet, the pensioner taunted her shouting 'yap, yap, yap, yap, yap' as he gestures with his hand. 'I would have apologised if you would have asked nicely,' the woman exclaimed, while the elderly man yelled while hitting her phone three times, 'You keep f****** shouting at me you slapper, go on!' The woman goes on: 'If you had come to me and said, "Listen darling you can't park there." I would've apologised to you. You came at me guns blazing, I'm a 21-year-old girl now get out my face and f*** off.' After she pleads with the man to get away from her, saying she was 'scared', the pensioner sarcastically responded, while placing his hands in a prayer-like motion: 'Oh dear, please forgive me.' As the nursery worker attempted to drive away from the confrontation, the man blocks her from shutting the door. She said: 'Get out my car, can you move. I'm trying to shut my f****** door mate, can you move? Move so I can shut my door, you are scaring me. Please can you move! 'You've made your point now f***off home!' After he protested how he wasn't in her car, he added: 'Why don't you apologise for your language.' 'Absolutely f*****g not,' she said, while he retorted: 'Then you're f***** stay here all day! And I'll get the fellas when they come in and they will block you in.' Following the distributing encounter last week, residents have since controversially defended the man's behaviour urging others to not park in the area. Speaking on Monday at the Silver Birch Court retirement complex on Friends Avenue, one woman told MailOnline: 'She was laughing and goading him. She's not a kid. 'If you go to work in a car you need to be responsible where you park it. 'People are paying £350 a month service charges and people think they can just park here?' 'He didn't need to be aggressive. The language was not very nice,' one resident added. 'There aren't enough places for the people that live here. All the carers have to park.' A local said they were appalled by what they saw, simply branding the pensioner 'vile', while one quipped: 'If that was one of my girls he would need an ambulance.' 'I bet he would act differently if a man was there,' a fourth shared, as another chimed in: 'I understand it both sides, she shouldn't have parked there but he shouldn't have been so rude, as she said if he had been more polite it would have been different.' Hertfordshire Constabulary told MailOnline: 'Police are investigating an incident which happened in Friends Avenue, Cheshunt, at around midday on Tuesday 2 July. 'It was reported that a man shouted aggressively at a woman in a dispute over parking. 'It was reported that he was holding a screwdriver and that he hit the victim's phone that she was holding. 'The incident is being treated as a common assault and enquiries are underway.' Any witnesses or persons with information in relation to the incident have been urged to contact 101 quoting crime reference 41/62415/25. Brazil's XP sues short seller Grizzly Research in New York, alleges defamation

NEW YORK, July 7 (Reuters) - The Brazilian fintech company XP (XP.O), opens new tab filed a U.S. lawsuit on Monday accusing the short seller Grizzly Research of defamation over a March 12 report, opens new tab accusing XP of running a "Madoff-like Ponzi scheme." In a complaint filed in federal court in Manhattan, XP said it suffered more than $100 million in harm to its business and reputation from the report, with many longtime clients, investors and business partners withdrawing their funds. It accused Grizzly and its owner Siegfried Eggert of "brazenly, maliciously, and recklessly" publishing the report, with a goal of driving down XP's stock price so they could profit on short positions. Grizzly could not be immediately reached by phone or email after business hours, and its website was not accepting messages seeking comment on the lawsuit. Lawyers for XP did not immediately respond to requests for alternative contact information. XP's press office in Brazil declined to comment. Short sellers sell borrowed shares that they hope to repurchase later at lower prices, to replenish lenders, and pocket the difference in price. Other short sellers have been sued in the United States over their alleged defamatory reports. In its report, Grizzly said XP's alleged Ponzi scheme involved derivatives sales to retail clients, which were then funneled through special funds and misrepresented as proprietary trading profit. Grizzly said the alleged scheme was "likely to involve nefarious activities," and XP would be unprofitable without it. XP called Grizzly's claims of impropriety "demonstrably false" because its Gladius and Coliseu funds were proprietary and had no outside investors, and the challenged transactions complied with applicable Brazilian law. Shares of XP fell 5.5% to $14.14 on March 12 in New York. They closed down 32 cents at $19.48 on Monday. The lawsuit seeks unspecified compensatory and punitive damages. Madoff refers to the late swindler Bernard Madoff. The case is XP inc et al v Grizzly Research LLC et al, U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York, No. 25-05564.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr's legendary father breaks silence on son's ICE arrest over 'cartel links'

Boxing great Julio Cesar Chavez Sr has protested his son's innocence after he was arrested by ICE agents last week over his alleged connection to the Sinaloa Cartel. Just days after his defeat against Jake Paul in Anaheim, California at the end of June, Chavez Jr was arrested 27 miles away in Los Angeles for overstaying his US visa and lying on a green-card application, according to the Department of Homeland Security. In Mexico, the 39-year-old son and namesake of the country's greatest ever boxer is also wanted on allegations of drug and gun trafficking. The DHS said last Thursday that they are 'processing him for expedited removal from the United States' due to a warrant in Mexico. As for the timing of the arrest, they claimed Chavez Jr's June 28 loss to Paul occurred one day after he became determined to stay in the country illegally. Mexico has since confirmed that it issued an arrest warrant for Chavez Jr in 2023. The country's officials and the DHS 'started the corresponding procedure for his extradition to Mexico,' it was revealed last week. Mexican president Claudia Sheinbaum has also expressed hope that he will be imprisoned upon return. Amid plans to deport his son back to their homeland, Chavez Sr - one of the greatest fighters in boxing history - has claimed his son is innocent and that he is by no means a criminal. 'It's complicated, there's a lot of talk, but we're calm because we know my son's innocence,' the 62-year-old told the El Heraldo newspaper. 'My son will be anything you want, anything, but he is not a criminal and less everything he's being accused of.' Alejandro Gertz Manero, Mexico's Attorney General, said on Sunday that the investigation against Chavez Jr started in 2019 after a complaint filed by US authorities against the Sinaloa Cartel for organized crime, human trafficking, arms trafficking, and drug trafficking. 'He knows a lot of people, we live in Culiacan , it would be impossible not to know all of the people that are doing illicit stuff, but that does not mean nothing,' Chavez Sr said. 'In my time I met everybody, and they did not come after me.' Chavez senior was considered one of the best Mexican boxers of all time; a world champion at three divisions. In the 1980s and '90s he was a huge celebrity who mixed with drug dealers. He claimed in the past to have been friends with drug lords Amada Carrillo Fuentes and Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman. Gertz Manero said Chavez Junior's lawyers have requested at least five injunctions in Mexico, which have been rejected because the boxer is still in the United States. 'Lawyers in the United States are working to see if he stays there, and we're prepared if he comes here,' Chavez senior said. 'We'll fight under Mexican law if he´s transferred here.' Chavez has spent considerable time in his native Mexico and the US in recent years, but according to the Department of Homeland Security, his tourist visa expired in February of 2024. The agency further claims Chavez filed several fraudulent statements while applying for permanent residence in April of 2024 after marrying Frida Muñoz, who is related to imprisoned Sinaloa cartel kingpin Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman. Chavez's father has openly spoken about his own relationships with the Sinaloa Cartel and, in particular, 'El Chapo'. In a podcast with journalist Javier Alarcon in 2021, he revealed: 'Not just El Chapo, I've met all the most wanted drug traffickers, like Amado Carrillo, El Azul [Esparragoza], and El Mayo [Zambada].
