Pyramids FC brought down to earth in Egypt Cup final!
The encounter at the Cairo International Stadium promised nothing but fireworks, and it did live up to the expectations.
The recently crowned CAF Champions League champions fancied their chances against a very experienced Zamalek team.
However, they had to face their Egyptian rivals without prolific striker Fiston Mayele on the night.
Pyramids were the first to take the lead via El Sayed in the 29th minute but a 78th minute goal by Mansy took the game to extra time.
Neither team could find the winner after 120 minutes of football, and penalties had to decide who the champions were.
Pyramids were on the backfoot in the early takings of the penalties after Mohamed Fathi missed his penalty.
However, Zamalek's Shalaby brought them into the game as he missed what would have been his side's winner in the fifth penalty.
Both Pyramids and Zamalek took 10 penalties each, but it was the home side who missed more (three) while the visitors missed just two.
In the end, Zamalek were crowned champions after beating Pyramids 8-7 on penalties.
Pyramids were looking for their second major trophy in less than a week after stunning Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Champions League final last Sunday.
It is also worth mentioning that Pyramids were wearing their new jersey with the symbolic CAF Champions League star on it.

Erin Gallagher eyeing another medal for SA at World Aquatics Champs
Team South Africa have already picked up three medals at the championships in Singapore. Following the medal-winning swims of team-mates Pieter Coetze and Kaylene Corbett, Erin Gallagher, who also trains with Coetze and Corbett in Pretoria, will be hoping to add to South Africa's medal tally on Saturday. I honestly think I owe it to Pieter and Kaylene, my teammates, for winning medals tonight (Friday),' said Gallagher afterwards. 'I was in the call-room screaming, and they just got me excited for my race and I thought I can't drop the ball – my teammates have done so incredibly well, I need to get into that final tonight and I think that spurred me on in the race.' Also yesterday, Catherine van Rensburg finished 25th overall in the 800m freestyle in a time of 8 minutes 50.60 seconds. In other action on Saturday, Coetzé returns to the pool for the 50m backstroke and Corbett for the 50m breaststroke, while Caitlin de Lange will be taking on the 50m freestyle. The mixed 4x100m freestyle relay team will also be in action before Gallagher's 50m butterfly final in the evening session.

Captain Nkosinathi Sibisi backs new Orlando Pirates' coach Abdeslam Ouaddou ahead of his first game in the MTN8

And so, with his successor Abdeslam Ouaddou set to coach the team in his first official game on Saturday, a lot is expected from him. Ouaddou is expected to hit the ground running from the onset and beat Polokwane City who'll visit Pirates in the MTN8 quarter-final at Orlando Stadium at 3pm. Winning the MTN8 became a norm for Pirates in the last three seasons under Riveiro as they beat AmaZulu, Mamelodi Sundowns and Stellenbosch in the final. Newly appointed club captain Nkosinathi Sibisi also admitted they'll always be a comparison between Riveiro and Ouaddou, but he backs the new dawn to achieve more success. 'I think the comparison will always be there,' Sibisi said. 'But as I have said: it's a new season, new coach, new players and new ideas. 'We are starting off fresh. These include making sure that the team has enough tools and abilities to go toe-to-toe with Mamelodi Sundowns, who've ruled the land for the last eight years, for the title. But Sibisi, judging from what he's seen during training and the two-week tour of Marbella, the team, including the new players, is ready to compete this season. 'We play every cup to win it - whether it's the league, the MTN8, Nedbank Cup, Carling Knockout and the CAF Champions League,' he said. 'Whenever you are signed by a team like Pirates you are obligated to win every trophy. So, they (the fans) have every right to say they want the league. 'A team like Pirates should be challenging. So, I think with the signing that we've made and the ideas that the coach has for us, it's going to be an interesting season.' Sibisi was impressed with all the new signings, but he also put his head on the block and praised the qualities of striker Yanela Mbuthuma. 'They are quality players, and I can't pick anyone,' Sibisi initially said. 'I think they've proven that from their respective clubs where they are coming from. 'We all know their talent - we've seen Sipho Mbule and we know Oswin Appollis from the national team. Maybe I was surprised with Mbuthuma - he's a very good striker. 'The likes of (Tshepang) Moremi are also putting up their hands, and everyone. So, it's really going to be an interesting season for everyone, once again.'
