CAIRO – 11 May 2025: US President Donald Trump has reportedly described the new Israeli offensive in Gaza as a wasted effort as it undermines his reconstruction plans in the enclave, according to two sources speaking to NBC News.
The sources, a US official and another individual familiar with alleged tensions between Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stated that the US president is disappointed with Tel Aviv's decision to launch a new military offensive in Gaza.
Trump reportedly believes the offensive contradicts his plan to rebuild Gaza into the "Riviera of the Middle East," a term he previously used to describe his vision for relocating Palestinians from the strip permanently and undertaking large-scale construction projects.
Despite international condemnation, Israeli officials have recently indicated plans for an expanded military campaign in Gaza, with Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich stating the territory will be "entirely destroyed."
These plans allegedly include the potential seizure of the entire enclave, the forced displacement of almost all Palestinians to southern Gaza, and taking control of aid distribution alongside private security contractors.
Israeli media has reported that Trump is considering announcing a comprehensive plan for peace in Gaza by the end of this week, apparently sidestepping Israel who has refused to stop the war despite Hamas's offer to hand over all captives it still holds in exchange for a permanent ceasefire.

Media outlets have reported on alleged tensions between Trump and Netanyahu regarding the handling of issues in the Middle East, including the Iranian nuclear program.
Israel has long considered military action against Iran's nuclear facilities, viewing its archfoe's uranium enrichment levels as a significant threat.
Tel Aviv has been awaiting Trump's approval and support for potential strikes against Iran. However, the US initiated talks with Iran last month to pursue a deal limiting Iran's nuclear ambitions.
Moreover, the US has seemingly left Israel isolated once again after Trump announced an agreement with the Houthis to cease targeting shipping in the Red Sea.
While the Houthis acknowledge the agreement, they maintain it does not extend to Israeli shipping or territories, asserting that they will continue to target Israeli vessels and territories until the war in Gaza ends.
Trump, whom Netanyahu described this year as Israel's "best friend," has reportedly severed direct communication with Netanyahu, believing Netanyahu is "manipulating him," according to Yanir Cozin, a correspondent for Israeli Army Radio, citing close associates who spoke to Israeli Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer.
Trump is scheduled to embark on a Middle East tour this week, including stops in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE, notably excluding Israel.
The Iranian nuclear program, Red Sea tensions, and the Gaza war are expected to be key topics on the agenda.

Volcano Eruption in Indonesia Sends Ash 10km Into Sky

Israa Farhan A volcano in eastern Indonesia erupted on Friday, releasing a towering ash plume nearly 10 kilometers high, just weeks after a previous eruption disrupted air travel in Bali. Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki, located on the tourist island of Flores and standing at 1,584 meters, erupted following a build-up of volcanic gases, according to Indonesia's National Volcanology Agency. The agency confirmed the ash cloud rose approximately 10 kilometers above the summit. Agency chief Muhammad Wafid stated that the eruption was caused by a gas accumulation over recent weeks. He warned that the eruption could trigger dangerous volcanic mudflows or debris flows, particularly if heavy rainfall occurs. These flows could pose serious threats to communities located near rivers surrounding the volcano. No casualties or damage have been reported so far, but authorities have advised residents and tourists to avoid activities within a 6-kilometer radius of the volcano. Last month, the same volcano erupted, sending ash 18 kilometers into the sky and causing the cancellation of 24 flights at Bali's airport. Indonesia is part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, a region known for high volcanic and seismic activity. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results

Tehran Shuts Public Toilets Amid Worsening Water Crisis

Israa Farhan Authorities in Tehran have closed many public toilets across the city as part of emergency government measures to address Iran's deepening water crisis, according to local media reports. The closure, which includes facilities in metro stations, has drawn public criticism. Iran watchdog outlet Didban slammed the government for cutting off access to what it called a basic human need. While Tehran's city administration has not officially commented, eyewitnesses confirm that numerous public restrooms are no longer accessible. There are an estimated 20,000 public toilets in the greater Tehran area, many of which have reportedly been shut down. Iran is currently facing a growing energy and water shortage, with water cuts lasting up to 48 hours in parts of the capital and at least 50 other cities. The crisis has been worsened by long electricity outages that prevent residents from using air conditioning, even as temperatures soar to between 40 and 50 degrees Celsius. President Masoud Pezeshkian recently warned that the country is on the brink of a severe water shortage. He urged citizens to reduce consumption, warning that excessive use could push Iran into a critical shortage by September or October, according to the Tasnim News Agency. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results

Trump Threatens UK Drugmakers With 60-Day Deadline to Cut US Prices, 'We'll Use Every Tool We Have'

Taarek Refaat President Donald Trump has issued a stark ultimatum to British pharmaceutical giants, warning they have 60 days to slash the prices of their medicines in the U.S. market or face aggressive action from his administration. 'We will use every tool in our arsenal,' Trump vowed on Saturday, targeting 17 drug companies in an escalating campaign to force them to match the reduced prices they offer in developing nations for the U.S. healthcare system. The move comes as the administration rolls out a wave of new tariffs on dozens of countries, including punitive duties on neighboring Canada, intensifying an already heated global trade climate. British drugmakers AstraZeneca and GSK saw their shares tumble amid investor fears over White House pressure, as Trump seeks to deliver on his pledge to bring down prescription costs for Americans. Analysts warn the policy could have ripple effects across the UK's National Health Service (NHS), which benefits from strong bargaining power with suppliers due to its massive purchasing scale, an advantage that could erode if companies are forced to harmonize prices globally. Trump is pushing for drugmakers to apply a 'most-favored nation' pricing model to Medicaid, the program serving low-income Americans, effectively demanding that the U.S. pay no more than the lowest price offered internationally. 'Cooperation toward global price parity in medicines would be the most effective path for companies, governments, and American patients alike,' Trump said in a statement. But his letter to pharmaceutical executives carried a blunt warning, 'If you refuse, we will use every tool in our arsenal to protect American families from unfair and excessive pricing practices. Americans need lower drug prices today, not tomorrow.' The president's remarks rattled markets, wiping an estimated £16 billion off the European pharmaceutical sector's market value amid concerns that lower U.S. prices could be offset by higher costs elsewhere in the world. Skeptics question whether Trump has the legal authority to impose direct drug price cuts, noting a similar effort during his first term was struck down in court. Back then, Trump accused current pricing models of 'subsidizing socialism abroad' by selling identical medicines, made in the same factories, at cheaper rates overseas, fueling inflated prices at home. Saturday's warning coincided with Trump signing an executive order imposing new tariffs on 68 countries plus the European Union. Canada was hit particularly hard, with duties raised from 25% to 35%, over what the White House called Ottawa's 'failure to cooperate' in halting the flow of illicit drugs, especially fentanyl, into the U.S. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney defended his country's efforts, citing 'historic investments in border security to apprehend drug traffickers and end migrant smuggling.' Switzerland, stunned by tariffs of 39%, far higher than anticipated, said it would continue negotiations with Washington to defuse the trade escalation. read more CBE: Deposits in Local Currency Hit EGP 5.25 Trillion Morocco Plans to Spend $1 Billion to Mitigate Drought Effect Gov't Approves Final Version of State Ownership Policy Document Egypt's Economy Expected to Grow 5% by the end of 2022/23- Minister Qatar Agrees to Supply Germany with LNG for 15 Years Business Oil Prices Descend amid Anticipation of Additional US Strategic Petroleum Reserves Business Suez Canal Records $704 Million, Historically Highest Monthly Revenue Business Egypt's Stock Exchange Earns EGP 4.9 Billion on Tuesday Business Wheat delivery season commences on April 15 News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results
