'My son vanished on holiday island without trace – something terrible happened'
A British mother searching for her son who vanished in Sardinia exactly one year ago says she is "broken" as she pleads for fresh help. Michael Frison, 26, vanished on July 13, 2024 - just one day after arriving on the Italian island to volunteer on a farm.
Despite extensive searches of nearby woodlands, caves and mountains, no trace of him has ever been found. His mother, Cristina Pittalis, originally from Sardinia but now living in Somerset, has since moved back to the island with her 11-year-old son in a desperate attempt to find answers. "I'm trying not to lose my mind," she said, recounting the last time she heard from him. "He was in a rush but absolutely clear in his speech, I didn't detect any confusion in his state of mind."

"Human beings do not disappear from the face of earth without leaving traces unless… something extremely bad happened to them," the mum told Sky News.
Michael had reportedly gone out for a walk and returned in a confused state, showing signs of heatstroke. He then left again - this time barefoot - and never came back.

His clothes and trainers were later discovered nearby. But Cristina believes the heatstroke theory doesn't add up. She said it was "extremely unlikely" he would suffer in the heat, as he'd previously lived on the island, and said it was "completely out of character" for him to abandon his belongings and wander off.
She is now urging Interpol to intervene in the case, despite an ongoing local investigation. Cristina is also calling on a woman from Jersey - believed to have been with Michael in the days before he vanished - to come forward with any information.

She described the toll the disappearance has taken on Michael's younger half-brother Emanuele, whose father died in 2017. "He's devastated," she said. "The three of us were extremely close, the two of them, they used to do everything together. It's horrible, he lost his father and now he lost his brother."
A friend of Cristina's previously launched a GoFundMe to support the family's search efforts, raising over $10,000 to help cover travel, legal costs, and awareness campaigns.

"It's a never-ending nightmare," she said. "I am extremely worried because there are no traces of Michael."

Tributes are pouring in for a British man who died after falling at a popular Ibiza hotel. Evan Thomson, 26, from Aberdeen, was in Spain for a belated birthday celebration when he fell at Ibiza Rocks Hotel on July 7. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. Spain's Guardia Civil police force is currently investigating what happened. Tributes have been paid to the popular Scotsman. His mum, Lel Kellighan, wrote on Facebook: 'I'm absolutely heartbroken to write and tell you all, earlier this week my son Evan was in a tragic accident whilst on holiday with his friends in Ibiza and sadly passed away. 'We are all absolutely broken.' Ibiza Rocks, known for its famous DJ sets, said in a statement that Evan's death was 'truly tragic' and 'extremely sad'. 'Our senior management team onsite did everything possible to help the police with their investigation into events leading up to Evan's death, and to provide constant support from our customer services manager to Evan's friends,' they said. 'That has included them having 24-hour access to our senior manager for any help or questions, and giving them permission to pass on her mobile number to Evan's family should they wish to call us directly. 'They were very appreciative of all the help and support at such a difficult time. We are deeply saddened by Evan's death, and our thoughts continue to be with his family and friends at this truly difficult time.' On Facebook, friends shared memories with Evan. The 33-year-old had collapsed in her room in the resort of San Antonio, unconscious and not breathing. More Trending Emergency services spent around 40 minutes performing CPR on her to try to revive her, but without success. Spanish media reported that the unnamed woman was suffering health problems. It is understood that she had an implantable cardioverter defibrillator, a small battery-powered device fitted under the collarbone to monitor heartbeats and treat abnormal heart rhythms using electric impulses. It is commonly used by people at high risk of serious arrhythmias, and it delivers a shock if it detects one. British women beaten and stamped on in row over bill at Turkish restaurant
Footage has been shared of staff at a restaurant in Turkey repeatedly punching and kicking two British women as they lie on the pavement. The video shows the men attacking the tourists on June 2 outside Mad Boys, in Marmaris on June 2, after a row reportedly broke out over an unpaid bill. Earlier in the footage, one of the women, who is wearing a green dress, is also seen pushing and hitting one of male employees around the head with her handbag. The clip begins with a heated verbal argument that then escalates and turns physical. At one point the women fall to the ground and a number of men attack them as they lie there. One even jumps through an open window to join in. People can be heard shouting in the background as the brawl unfolds. Police were called to the scene, but since neither party filed a complaint at the time the matter was closed. However, when the video was shared online it caused widespread criticism and lead to a police investigation being opened. Five members of staff were found to have been involved in the brawl and were detained and the restaurant was closed indefinitely. The restaurant manager told Turkish newspaper AKŞAM that a family of five had caused an argument by not paying the 5,000 TL bill (£92). He said the tourists provoked the staff by insulting Turks and the Turkish flag, and then attacked them. 'Our state stands firmly against all forms of violence against women. 'Judicial and administrative investigations into the business and its employees are being meticulously conducted, and all developments are being closely monitored.' Several people expressed their shock at the staff's behaviour on social media. More Trending One person wrote: 'Shocking! Even if the customers were completely in the wrong, it absolutely gives the staff no right to react that way. 'Especially a group of men kicking and punching women when they're cowering on the floor. I thought I'd seen it all until now. Get them closed down and gone and restore the Marmaris we use to love!' Another posted: 'This is absolutely wild. This place needs closing down. I love Marmaris and am a 32 year visitor. I don't go to armutalan or any of these kinds of places but I'm shocked at seeing grown men kicking a woman in the street!' It is not clear if the women sustained injuries in the attack. Get in touch with our news team by emailing us at webnews@ For more stories like this, check our news page.
