As a defensive back, Downs totaled two interceptions, six passes defended, eight tackles for loss and 82 combined tackles, while also returning six punts and running back one of them for a touchdown. After a solid freshman campaign, Parker was a force to be reckoned with for the Tigers in his sophomore season in 2024. In the latter year, Parker totaled 11.0 sacks, an ACC-high six forced fumbles, 20 tackles for loss, two fumble recoveries and 57 combined tackles on a Clemson team that won the ACC and reached the College Football Playoff. Leavitt transferred from Michigan State to Arizona State for the 2024 season in what turned out to be a fun ride for the program. In what was his first full year as a starting quarterback at the collegiate level, Leavitt flashed dual-threat ability. In the air, he totaled 2,885 passing yards, 24 passing touchdowns, six interceptions and a 150.2 passer rating, while completing 61.7% of his passes. On the ground, Leavitt rushed for 443 yards and five touchdowns. Leavitt and the Sun Devils finished 11-3, won the Big 12 and reached the College Football Playoff before a heartbreaking overtime loss to Texas in the quarterfinal round. 5. Clemson QB Cade Klubnik (+1200)
The 2025 season will be Klubnik's third under center for the Tigers, and he's coming off an encouraging 2024 campaign. In said season, Klubnik totaled 3,639 passing yards, 36 passing touchdowns, six interceptions and a 148.2 passer rating, while completing 63.4% of his passes. He also rushed for 463 yards and seven touchdowns. Klubnik led Clemson to an ACC title and subsequently a berth in the College Football Playoff. 4. South Carolina QB LaNorris Sellers (+800)
Sellers was South Carolina's starting quarterback for all but one game in 2024 in what was a season that saw the freshman turn heads. As a passer, Sellers totaled 2,534 passing yards, 18 passing touchdowns, seven interceptions and a 151.9 passer rating, while completing 65.6% of his passes. He also rushed for 674 yards and seven touchdowns. The 6-foot-3, 240-pound signal-caller flashed a capable arm, while imposing his will on the ground in a season that saw the Gamecocks go 9-4. 3. LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier (+425)
After sitting on the bench for the better part of three seasons, Nussmeier became LSU's starting quarterback in 2024 and more than held his own. Nussmeier totaled 4,052 passing yards, 29 passing touchdowns, 12 interceptions and a 142.7 passer rating, while completing 64.2% of his passes in a 9-4 season for the Tigers. As with any season at LSU, Nussmeier and the Tigers have high expectations for the 2025 season, which will be their fourth season under head coach Brian Kelly. Allar totaled 3,327 passing yards, 24 passing touchdowns, eight interceptions and a 153.5 passer rating, while completing 66.5% of his passes. He also rushed for 302 yards and six touchdowns. 1. Yes, there's another, and this one is named after the grandfather. Manning will be the Longhorns' quarterback next season after backing up Quinn Ewers in 2024 and appearing in just two games in 2023. Manning, the No. 1 overall recruit in the Class of 2023, actually made two starts for Texas last season and appeared in 10 games total, primarily as a rushing threat when he was brought in for select plays. In all, Manning totaled 939 passing yards, nine passing touchdowns, two interceptions and a 184.0 passer rating, while completing 67.8% of his passes and rushing for 108 yards and four touchdowns. [Top training camp stories | NFL team feeds | NFL training camp live blog] All 32 NFL teams have reported to training camp, and there's no shortage of intrigue and storylines so far. The New York Jets are hoping to be one of the NFL's most interesting offenses with Justin Fields under center, and there's still plenty of time to make that happen. Recent returns at training camp, however, haven't been strong. At practice Tuesday, a promising drive in 11-on-11s ended with a Fields interception, per SNYTV's Connor Hughes. That followed some struggles in 7-on-7s for Fields, and his total numbers the last three practices before Tuesday were reportedly 8 of 32 with an interception. Fields is in his first season under head coach Aaron Glenn and offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand. The Jets are still trying to sort out what personnel to use with which packages, and play to their strengths. It's all very routine at this time of year. That said, the Jets are counting on Fields to help move the franchise in the right direction starting this season. While he'll likely never be confused with a pure passer, those numbers need to improve for the Jets' offense to be effective. Top NFL training camp stories Browns release first depth chart: The Cleveland Browns released their first depth chart of the preseason Monday, and the quarterback order is as expected. Veteran Joe Flacco is listed as the starter, and fellow veteran Kenny Pickett is listed at No. 2. Rookie Dillon Gabriel, whom the Browns selected in the third round of April's draft, is No. 3. And fellow rookie Shedeur Sanders, whose slide to the fifth round was the story of the NFL Draft, is listed at No. 4. Cleveland's first preseason game is Friday at Carolina. Patriots DC has health scare: New England defensive coordinator Terrell Williams had a health scare in the middle of team practice on Monday, when he fell onto the grass on the sidelines, according to reporters covering training camp. Medical staff quickly acted, went to aid Williams and rolled out a stretcher to help carry him off the field. The coach was able to get up on his own, per TMZ. Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald later reported that Williams collapsed due to dehydration, but was "fine" and receiving treatment. Throughout practices, updates are shared during the workouts which make for intriguing and important notes. In terms of Day 10 of training camp, what stood out the most? Here are three observations from the 10th day of Jets training camp: Back-to-back bad days from Fields The Jets offense has only had one day of training camp practices considered as a "good" outing through 10 workouts. The last two certainly were not that. Many reports indicated a few very, very poor sessions from quarterback Justin Fields specifically. On the plus side Breece Hall at least made a few players, according to reports. At least one we have a visual of. On one catch, it wasn't exactly a full diving effort, but Hall went all out to make the grab: Defense playing well While Fields and the offense have struggled, it might have been for good reason. The Jets defense had another top outing on Monday. Cornerbacks Sauce Gardner and Brandon Stephens are earning praise. New York Giants vs. Cleveland Browns: Which quarterback room would you rather have?
We're just days into the official NFL preseason, but most teams already have a firm grasp on their most important decision: Who's playing QB for us? When you've got, say, Josh Allen or Patrick Mahomes or Lamar Jackson in your camp, the question is answered before it's asked. Other teams have less stable situations; Indianapolis is a two-man race, while New Orleans appears to be testing whether you even need to have a quarterback at all. But among the NFL's 32 teams, two quarterback rooms stand out for their sheer chaos, volume of 'I know that guy!'s, and absolute unpredictable outcomes — two quarterback rooms that look a whole lot like a fantasy autodraft gone horribly wrong, two quarterback rooms that each deserve their own 'Hard Knocks' seasons. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] We speak, of course, of the New York Giants and Cleveland Browns. And we ask you: Which room would you rather have? Let's look at the tape: The Super Bowl-winning veteransThe next game Wilson plays in the NFL will be his 200th. He's gone from Seattle legend to, now, his fourth team in five years, following stints in Denver and Pittsburgh. After his Rocky Mountain flameout, he played well enough as a rental in Pittsburgh to earn some Comeback Player of the Year votes. This year, he'll have Malik Nabers to target, and Giants head coach Brian Daboll is pushing the propaganda-friendly line that quarterback and receiver are best pals already. Flacco, meanwhile, is pushing a line of his own: that even at age 40, he's still capable of running a team. He's now more well-traveled than a Grateful Dead roadie, going from Baltimore to Denver to the Jets to Cleveland to Indianapolis and back to Cleveland. He won Comeback Player of the year in his previous Browns stint, winning four of his five starts and leading Cleveland to a surprise (and brief) playoff berth. In his return, he's a veteran presence, but by no means a long-term one, even if he's currently QB1 on the Browns' depth chart. Verdict: Wilson's highs are likely higher than Flacco's, but his lows are lower, too. And both of their Super Bowls were a long, long time ago. The sling-it-deep-and-see-what-happens bombersThere are certain players who command your attention every time the ball is in their hands, players like Mahomes, Michael Vick … and Jameis Winston. You never quite know what Winston is going to do with his prodigious quarterback gifts, you just know it's going to be memorable. You don't get to 30 touchdowns and 30 interceptions in a season by playing it safe, after all. Winston spent last season in Cleveland basically being Jameis; for instance, against Denver, he set a Browns record by throwing for 497 yards and four touchdowns … but he also threw three interceptions and Cleveland lost. He signed a two-year deal with the Giants in the offseason; so far, he's drawn the most notice for doing the 'Thriller' dance during practice: The Cleveland QB1 role isn't quite Pickett's to lose, but he has a wide-open highway in front of him. Coming off a 3-14 season, the Browns can't exactly afford to waste another year waiting for the right QB prospect to develop (or drop in their laps via the draft). That gives Pickett, now in his fourth season and the proud owner of a Super Bowl ring via the Eagles, the opportunity to leapfrog Flacco and stiff-arm his younger challengers. Pickett has taken the majority of first-team snaps this offseason, but head coach Kevin Stefanski is also giving Flacco all the room he needs to prove himself. Verdict: Pickett has the edge here, but for sheer chaos, you can't match Winston. He might lead you to victory, he might burn your house down, he might do both at once … but it'll never be routine. The 'Hey, you never know' guysJersey-born can't-say-his-name-without-using-your-hands Tommy DeVito is one big win away from having a TV movie made about his life; he joined his hometown Giants as an undrafted free agent before the 2023 season, and he's since started eight games. After a Jeremy Lin-esque three-win streak in 2023, he's since settled back to earth, and could be the casualty if the Giants decide to keep Winston. Despite being drafted in the third round, well before his more heralded teammate (see below), Gabriel has struggled throughout training camp with both accuracy and injury. The reigning Big Ten MVP and All-American with Oregon is finding the sledding a whole lot tougher in the NFL. Gabriel has the tools to succeed, but does he have the time? Verdict: DeVito's longevity is serving him well; he's the embodiment of the old cliche that the best ability is availability. Shedeur Sanders and the guy drafted 119 spots before Shedeur SandersThe Giants have had some success in the past with quarterbacks out of Ole Miss, so their decision to take Dart as the second quarterback off the board wasn't entirely a surprise. Dart slung his way through the SEC, and he'll get a significant chance to demonstrate his skills this weekend in the first preseason game against Buffalo. He's had an up-and-down preseason, but his first live-fire performance should go a long way to demonstrating how ready he is to take over Wilson's job … and how soon that might happen. You know the deal with Sanders — the presumptive (at least in his own camp's mind) first-rounder fell all the way to the fifth in this year's draft. The NFL media has covered his performance in Browns camp with a scrutiny usually reserved for papal conclaves, but even so, he remains mired at fourth in the Browns' unofficial depth chart. Whether this is a case of insufficient reps or insufficient coaches' confidence doesn't really matter; Sanders is buried, and he's going to need a lot more than daily sports-talk yellers advocating for him to climb out of it. And that's not the only bad roster news for Sanders … Verdict: Dart has a clear, if lengthy, path to the starting gig in New York. Sanders' path is nowhere near as clear, though it's going to be well-lit with national spotlight wherever it goes. Bonus: The fifth man in the three-man QB roomCleveland apparently has decided to build the entire team out of quarterbacks, signing Tyler Huntley as a free agent this week. (Also, Gabriel and Pickett are nursing minor injuries, but that's a much less fun explanation.) After making the Pro Bowl in relief of Jackson in Baltimore in 2022, Huntley has bounced between practice squads. He adds a new wrinkle to the Cleveland chaos, doesn't he? Overall verdict: In this choice of dog's breakfast vs. buffet leftovers, we go with the Giants, if only because they have the more stable situation at No. 1 and the more likely QB-in-waiting in Dart. But since both of these franchises play in some of the game's toughest divisions — and because both franchises are more cursed than an Egyptian tomb — that could flip by halftime of Week 1. Buckle up.
