All the latest hand luggage sizes for Ryanair, easyJet, Jet2, BA, Wizz Air, TUI

Daily Mirror21-05-2025
It's always important to check the hand luggage allowances of your chosen airline before jetting off on holiday, especially because they can change so frequently
Packing for a holiday is arguably one of the most stressful and tiresome tasks. Whether it's making sure you've got everything you could possibly need - such as that extra pair of swimming trunks, a bottle of sun cream or your favourite sunglasses - or that your luggage is of the right size and not too heavy to avoid any last second panic.
The difficult thing is there are so many different airlines that have varying size and weight requirements, so it's easy to get mixed up, turn up at the airport and then be faced with costly fees. What makes this an even more complicated process is that these allowances change quite frequently, so it's important to keep an eye out. And that's where The Mirror comes in. Here's a breakdown of the latest luggage requirements for all the major airlines.

Ryanair

According to the airline's official website: "All our fares include one small personal bag which can be brought on board, such as a handbag or laptop bag (40x20x25cm), which must fit under the seat in front of you." For anyone who requires additional bagging allowance, Ryanair offers deals such as priority boarding and two cabin bags.
The rule explains: "This allows you to carry a small personal bag (40x20x25cm), which must fit under the seat in front of you and a 10kg bag (55x40x20cm) onboard, to be stored in the overhead locker. It also allows you to board the plane first using the Priority Boarding queue at the gate."
easyJet
According to the airline, customers are allowed to bring the following on board:
One small cabin bag
Maximum size 45 x 36 x 20cm (including any handles and wheels)
Includes items like a small trolley case, handbag, rucksack and laptop bag, but please check dimensions
Needs to fit under the seat in front of you
Maximum weight 15kg. You need to be able to lift and carry the bag yourself
While if you require something bigger, you can pay to add a large cabin bag - note this is also included as part of an easyJet Plus membership. Here's all the key information to keep in mind for this:

Maximum size 56 x 45 x 25 cm (including any handles and wheels)
Includes items like a trolley case and larger rucksack, but please check dimensions
Needs to fit in an overhead locker
Maximum weight 15kg. You need to be able to lift and carry the bag yourself
Includes Speedy Boarding (be one of the first to board)
It's important to remember the maximum number of cabin bags available per passenger is two; one small cabin bag for all customers and one large cabin bag for customers if it's included with their fare or membership benefits or a paid one - you can't have both.
Jet2
According to the airline: "You can bring one piece of hand luggage onboard free of charge, as long as it weighs no more than 10kg and is no larger than 56cm x 45cm x 25cm, including any wheels and handles."

Should your luggage weigh more or is larger than this, however, it will need to be checked into the aircraft hold - plus you could possibly face an additional charge.
"You can also bring one small under-seat bag onboard (such as a handbag, laptop bag or airport purchase), as long as it doesn't exceed 40cm x 30cm x 15cm in size. This must be placed underneath the seat in front of you."
British Airways (BA)

According to the airline, you need the following:
1 cabin bag, max. 23kg (51lbs), up to 56×45×25cm (22 x 18 x 10in)
1 handbag or laptop bag, max. 23kg (51lbs), up to 40×30×15cm (16 x 12 x 6in)
Wizz Air
According to the airline's website, passengers are allowed two types of bags onboard; a free carry-on bag or a trolley bag (for WIZZ Priority holders). Plus these items can also be brought with you at no additional cost:

A coat or blanket
Mobile phone
Reading material for the flight
Duty-free items purchased in the airside departure lounge after passing through the security check
For infants (0-2 years): food for the flight's duration and a foldable baby stroller or a small crib (can be taken until the aircraft door or steps)
A pair of crutches for physically disabled passengers
It allows everyone one small carry-on bag, which should be placed under the seat., maximum size: 40 x 30 x 20 cm, 10kg. The rules state the free carry-on can be one of the following:
Laptop bag
Purse
Briefcase
Small backpack

But it must be a maximum of 40 x 30 x 20 cm, 10kg There is an option to add a larger carry-on bag (such as a trolley bag or any other bag within size limitations), along with priority check-in and boarding.
Maximum dimensions of the trolley bag: 55 x 40 x 23 cm.
Maximum weight of the trolley bag: 10 kg.
The trolley bag must fit in the overhead compartment above you.
Size allowance does not include bag handles/wheels; however, wheels must add no more than 5 cm to the size of the bag.
Should you exceed these dimensions, this will result in additional fees being charged.

TUI
According to the airline's website: "All adults and children aged two and over can take one piece of hand luggage for the cabin for free. Each piece of hand luggage can weigh up to 10kg, with maximum dimensions of 55x40x20cm."
As well as one piece of hand luggage, you can bring one small personal item. This includes things like a laptop bag, a backpack, or a handbag that's small enough to fit under the seat in front of you with maximum dimensions 40x30x20cm.
Note you'll need to be able to lift it into the overhead storage compartment yourself.

Man picks 'dirt from under his partner's toenails' during easyJet flight

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video A holidaymaker saw a fellow passenger 'pick dirt from under his partner's toenails' during an EasyJet flight. Erin Butcher, 27, had been enjoying a seven-day family holiday in Tenerife, Spain, when her return journey home took a nasty twist. When looking around in the packed plane, she saw a woman's bare feet splayed out on a tray table. The fashion merchandiser from Southwark, London, said she felt 'disgusted' when noticing a man then appeared to be giving her a makeshift pedicure. Footage shows how he used his bare hands to flick bits of dirt off her manicured toenails. The couple continued the bizarre grooming activity for around 20 minutes, Erin claimed, and were unfazed by other passengers' confused reactions. The holidaymaker said the toenail incident was a 'depressing' way to end her week-long holiday. She said: 'I felt so disgusted and I couldn't believe it. 'The partner was sprawled across the seats with her feet on the tray table, which was shocking enough. 'Her partner then started picking at her toenails and flicking little bits [of dirt] everywhere. It was disgusting. 'I was absolutely horrified. I was with my family and none of us could actually believe what was happening.' Erin described the activity as 'questionable' but felt relieved she was not sat next to them on the over the four-hour trip home. She continued: 'Even to do that in the privacy of your own home is questionable but to put them on a tray table where people are eating off all day. 'I was relieved I wasn't sitting next to them. I had the perfect view from my aisle seat which is horrifying. I couldn't really take my eyes off even though I wanted to.' She labelled the couple's toenail session as 'unhygenic' and said most passengers laughed at the pair, while others seemed horrified. Erin said: 'As if things aren't depressing enough when your week in the sun has just ended and you're faced with toe picking the whole way home.' When the Londoner shared the video on TikTok, many users expressed their disgust in the comments. More Trending One user simply wrote, 'totally gross', while another said, 'save it for later'. Another commenter suggested toenail picking should not be tolerated in any situation, adding: 'That's disgusting anywhere'. A different user simply asked the question: 'Why on earth?' easyJet charges passenger '£96 extra' at airport and her journey 'gets worse'

An easyJet passenger has shared her "unfair" experience after travelling to Paris, and claimed to have been charged a hefty fee before her journey took a turn for the worst It's widely known that navigating through an airport can be incredibly stressful, and matters become even more chaotic when complications arise. One woman, who recently travelled with easyJet, alleged she endured a particularly dreadful journey after being hit with a substantial charge and watching things rapidly deteriorate from bad to worse. ‌ Emi, who goes by on TikTok, recently shared details about her trip when journeying from London Luton Airport to Paris, and the ordeal left her completely disappointed. She reported being "unfairly" billed and had a "poor experience" during her flight, which made her Paris getaway rather miserable. ‌ In the footage, she alleges easyJet charged her £96.00 for carrying a rucksack that "met cabin policy", and which she believes comfortably fitted beneath the seat. She stated the charge was imposed at the "last minute", and she considered the decision "unfair" - though travellers are advised to verify baggage regulations before departure. ‌ To compound matters, she also alleged the aircraft was filthy, and she encountered delays as well. She wrote: "The experience only got worse on board. The airplane was dirty, with poor hygiene and cleanliness conditions. "The flight was delayed without clear updates." ‌ In the footage, Emi mentioned the journey occurred on July 24, and she displayed her receipt as well as showing what the aircraft looked like. There were crumbs and discarded rubbish on the floor beside her seats, and she wasn't particularly impressed. The clip has racked up dozens of views since being posted online, with viewers rushing to share their own experiences and opinions. One person revealed: "This happened to me. I complained to easyJet and they gave me the amount in a voucher." ‌ Another chimed in with: "I had the same thing at Luton." A third responded: "I've used the same backpack for the last three to four years with different airlines." Meanwhile, a fourth also remarked: "Follow the rules, no charges - simple." However, some viewers leapt to the airline's defence, offering a different viewpoint. One person pointed out: "Please bear in mind the staff have six to eight minutes to clean the plane and, if they are late, it's 90% of the time not their fault. ‌ "It can be if the plane in front of them was late taking off or landing - it delays others." Another supporter added: "Blame the set of passengers for leaving the mess, not the crew. If they were to tidy it, the flight would be delayed and they would get bother from the airline for being late and the passengers too." Emi failed to display her bag in the footage, meaning viewers couldn't judge exactly how large it was. She simply revealed the receipt handed to her by staff following payment of the charge. easyJet was unable to provide comment on the particular incident, however the carrier did issue a response regarding its baggage policy. A spokesperson stated: "easyJet's bag policy is well understood and all customers can bring one small under seat bag for free. "We provide clear information on bag allowances including dimensions clear when booking, via email before travel and on our boarding passes and our ground handlers check bags to ensure they will fit in the cabin, and in fairness to customers who have paid to bring additional bags."
