Apple's AI Delay Might Have Made It Consider Buying This AI Startup: Know More

Apple is facing long delays with Siri AI so the company might be looking at other ways to get going against Google and OpenAI.
Apple's AI struggle has stretched beyond one year since its AI features were showcased at the WWDC 2024 last year. And it seems the company is looking at exterior solutions to get its ambitions off the tracks which could involve buying another company which has readymade AI tools available from day one. Reports this week suggest Apple has internally considered bidding for Perplexity which is another AI company vying for a spot amongst Google and OpenAI.
Bloomberg has quoted sources in its report which clearly highlights the situation over at the Apple Park in Cupertino. These talks have mostly gone through internally, and an actual bid or discussion with the AI company has not happened.
Apple's AI Push: Buy Big
The report claims Adrian Perica has discussed the deal with Eddy Cue at Apple along with other senior decision makers. It also says that Apple might eventually decide against making an offer but these details are showing us the company's intent to get started maybe using existing platforms rather than invest in building a new one.
After all, Perplexity already has an AI assistant, a search engine and plans to build more effective AI tools. The AI company already offers some of these features for iPhone users, which Siri can only dream of right now.
Apple is a trillion dollar valued tech giant, which means buying any company will come easy at least with regards to the money. But even if Apple decides to formalise its interest in buying Perplexity, how much would it possibly cost? The AI company will be aware of the desperation at Apple and decide to get the highest price possible, which could be well over $50 billion if not more.
This is unlikely to be the last time we hear rumours about Apple strolling the cart looking for a solid product to buy. The company's senior executives were recently grilled in an interview by the Wall Street Journal and you can feel the uneasiness in their body language when Siri AI is brought up and how the AI race has become a tough nut to crack for the iPhone maker in the last 2 years.
There is a reason why Apple decided to deal with both OpenAI and Google to bring their ChatGPT and Gemini AI tools to iPhone users, now it is time to see the company make a serious move for its own future in this battle.

Apple in talks to bring Claude or ChatGPT for powering Siri's next big update: Here's what we know

Apple is considering using third party artificial inellgence models from Anthropic or OpenAI in order to power a new version of Siri, according to a report by Bloomberg. The Cueprtino based tech giant has talked with both companies about using their large language models for Siri. Currenty, most of Apple's AI features are run using its in-house technology but that it calls Apple Foundation Models. The company had also been planning to give Siri a new update using the same technology and was reportedly aiming for a 2026 release date. You may be interested in Notably, Apple began to evaluate using external AI models on the behest of Siri Chief Mike Rockwell and software engineering head Craig Federighi. The two executives were given charge of Siri after the duties were rmoved from John Giannandrea and the top executive was sidelines in response of Apple Intelligence and Siri feature delays. After taking charge, Rockwell instructed his new group to examine whether Siri would do a better job of handling queries using Apple's AI models or third party technology like Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini. The Bloomberg report notes that after multiple rounds of testing Rockwell and other executives found that Anthropic's AI technology was most promising for Siri's needs. This condlusion led to Apple's vice president of corporate development, Adrian Perica, to begin discussions with Anthropic for using Claude for powring Siri. Reportedly, Apple has discussed with Anthropic and OpenAI the possibility of running a custom version of Claude and ChatGPT that could run on Apple's Private Cloud Compute servers - the same infrastructure that it currently uses to operate its more sophisticated in-house models. Notably, Apple and Anthropic have had initial disagreements over financial terms. The AI startup is looking to get a multibillion-dollar annual fees for using its AI on iPhones that increases sharply every year. The report suggests that initial disagreements could lead to Apple working with OpenAI or other companies if it moves with the plan of using third-party models.

Meta Launches Superintelligence Labs Led by Alexandr Wang, Nat Friedman; Hires Talent from OpenAI, Google, Anthropic

In a decisive move to shape the future of artificial general intelligence (AGI), Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced the launch of Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL) — a new AI division that brings together Meta's foundational AI models, product units, and its long-established FAIR (Fundamental AI Research) team. The division will also house a dedicated lab focused on developing the next wave of large language models (LLMs). At the forefront of this ambitious venture are Alexandr Wang, founder and former CEO of Scale AI, and Nat Friedman, the former GitHub CEO. Wang steps into the newly created position of Chief AI Officer at Meta. In an internal memo accessed by Bloomberg, Zuckerberg described him as 'the most impressive founder of his generation.' Meanwhile, Friedman will co-lead the division with a strong focus on product innovation and applied research. 'As the pace of AI progress accelerates, developing superintelligence is coming into sight,' Zuckerberg reportedly told staff. 'I believe this will be the beginning of a new era for humanity, and I am fully committed to doing what it takes for Meta to lead the way.' Sources indicate that Zuckerberg personally led the recruitment effort for MSL, offering competitive compensation and even inviting potential hires to his home. While OpenAI CEO Sam Altman alleged that Meta offered a $100 million signing bonus, Meta's CTO dismissed this claim. Meta has invested $14.3 billion in Scale AI, effectively absorbing part of its workforce, including Wang. The tech giant is also actively engaging with AI startups like Perplexity AI, Runway, and is reportedly close to acquiring PlayAI, a niche player in voice replication technology. The creation of MSL sent ripples across the AI ecosystem, particularly because of Meta's high-profile hires from its biggest rivals. According to Bloomberg and Wired, Meta brought on board 11 leading AI researchers, including: Trapit Bansal (co-creator of OpenAI's o-series models) Shuchao Bi (key contributor to GPT-4o's voice and multimodal systems) Huiwen Chang (known for work on image generation at Google Research) Ji Lin (developed reasoning modules for GPT-4) Joel Pobar (returns to Meta from a stint at Anthropic) Jack Rae, Johan Schalkwyk, and Pei Sun (all from Google) Hongyu Ren, Jiahui Yu, and Shengjia Zhao (all from OpenAI) The initiative marks Zuckerberg's deepening commitment to AGI, placing Meta squarely in competition with Microsoft, Amazon, OpenAI, and Anthropic in the global AI arms race. Notably, earlier this year Microsoft acquired most of Inflection AI's team for $650 million, and Amazon onboarded senior researchers from Adept. With Meta Superintelligence Labs now live, the industry watches closely as Zuckerberg doubles down on his vision to position Meta at the forefront of artificial intelligence's next frontier.

Microsoft Authenticator app to drop password autofill: How to export data

Microsoft is discontinuing the password autofill feature in its Authenticator app. Autofill will stop working in July 2025, and all saved passwords will be permanently deleted by August 1. This move is part of Microsoft's plan to consolidate password management within the Edge browser, which will become the sole platform for storing and using saved credentials. Microsoft urges users to export their data before the deadline if they do not intend to switch to Edge. How to transfer your passwords Microsoft has stated that passwords and addresses already saved in the Authenticator app will automatically sync to your Microsoft account and remain accessible through Edge. However, if you are not planning to use Edge, you will need to export your passwords to another service before August 1. To continue using generated passwords, you must save them from the 'Generator history' (accessed via the 'Password' tab) into your saved passwords. How to maintain access to passwords with Edge For iOS Download the Microsoft Edge browser. Go to iPhone Settings and select General. Select Autofill & Passwords. Under the 'Autofill from' section, you will see a list of available password managers. Choose Edge. (If you have set up Passkeys for your Microsoft Account, ensure that Authenticator remains enabled as your Passkey Provider. Disabling Authenticator will disable your passkeys.) Open Edge and sign in to start autofilling. Your passwords and addresses are now securely synced in your Microsoft account. You can access them through 'Passwords' under settings. For Android Download the Microsoft Edge browser. Go to your device Settings and search for 'Autofill'. Select Preferred service. Select Change and choose Edge. Open Edge and sign in to start autofilling. Your passwords and addresses are now securely synced in your Microsoft account. You can access them through 'Passwords' under settings. Microsoft allows you to export passwords directly from Authenticator under Settings, then Autofill, and finally Export Passwords. Please note that payment details cannot be exported, so users will need to re-enter them manually. Passkeys are still supported Although password support is ending, Microsoft Authenticator will continue to support passkeys. This means you can still log in using facial recognition, fingerprint, or a PIN, ensuring the app remains enabled as your passkey provider. Choosing a different autofill provider instead of Edge If you would prefer to use a different service like Google Password Manager or iCloud Keychain, follow these steps: Set your preferred service as your default autofill provider in your phone's settings. Export your saved passwords from Authenticator and import them into your chosen password manager. Copy your saved addresses manually from Authenticator by tapping and holding, or export them using Microsoft Edge.
