Hollywood icon Michael Madsen's cause of death revealed
Authorities found Madsen unresponsive at his Malibu home early Thursday morning.
Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. His manager confirmed the cause of death as cardiac arrest.
Michael Madsen's lawyer revealed that the actor had been battling alcoholism in the years leading up to his death. 'Michael was suffering from the effects of alcoholism.
He had multiple stints in and out of rehab and struggled to maintain his sobriety. Perry Wander, who represented Madsen for two decades, said, 'Michael did not feel happy about his life.'
Family members, including his estranged wife DeAnna and sons Max, Christian, and Luke, gathered outside the Malibu home in the hours after his passing.
The family's grief was palpable as they consoled each other in the driveway, according to Daily Mail.
Michael Madsen's later years were marked by personal and legal turmoil. He faced a bitter legal battle with DeAnna over child support and finances.
His lawyer claimed this dispute, which led to the revocation of Madsen's passport, affected his ability to work abroad. 'I blame her for putting in the screws over his last years of life,' Wander stated.
The actor's struggles were compounded by the tragic suicide of his son Hudson in 2022. Hudson, a US Army sergeant, died at 26.
Madsen spoke openly about the pain of losing his son, saying, 'I am in shock as my son, whom I just spoke with a few days ago, said he was happy – my last text from him was 'I love you, dad''.
Madsen's career spanned more than four decades. He became a household name for his tough-guy roles in Tarantino's films, including Reservoir Dogs (1992) and Kill Bill: Volume 2 (2004).
He also starred in Donnie Brasco ( 1997) alongside Al Pacino and Johnny Depp.
His representatives said, 'In the last two years, Michael Madsen has been doing some incredible work with independent film.
This includes upcoming feature films Resurrection Road, Concessions , and Cookbook for Southern Housewives , and he was looking forward to this next chapter in his life'.
Madsen is survived by his five children, his estranged wife, DeAnna, and his sister, Virginia. His legacy as one of Hollywood's most iconic actors will endure, both on screen and in the hearts of his fans.

Jennifer Lopez reflects on Affleck split in new song
Jennifer Lopez has opened up about the painful end of her marriage to Ben Affleck through her music. At an exclusive listening party in Los Angeles, the singer debuted six new tracks, including a poignant pop ballad titled Wreckage of You. She co-wrote and recorded the song in just two weeks prior. The song captures her journey from heartbreak to strength after a 'very difficult' year marked by personal and professional challenges. Jennifer Lopez told attendees that the inspiration for the song struck her while she was lying in bed after a long day of tour rehearsals. She described the last year as one of the toughest times in her life, saying she had to cancel her tour to focus on healing herself, according to Page Six. 'Fast-forward one year later, and she feels better and stronger than ever,' an insider shared. The song's lyrics reflect this resilience: 'I'm stronger after the wreckage of you.' This phrase symbolises destruction but also survival and growth. The song highlights how Jennifer Lopez emerged empowered from the ruins of her relationship. Another guest at the event described Wreckage of You as a 'very emotional, empowering song about walking away from a relationship.' The other five songs Lopez played were upbeat and vibrant, showing a contrast to the ballad's introspective tone. Jennifer Lopez and Affleck's relationship has been closely followed worldwide. The couple, famously dubbed 'Bennifer,' rekindled their romance in 2021 after nearly two decades apart. They married in July 2022 but separated privately in April 2024. Lopez filed for divorce in August 2024, and their divorce was finalised in January 2025. The couple then officially declared single by 21 February. The split was a difficult period for Lopez, who candidly shared in interviews that it 'almost took me out for good.' Yet she emphasised that she has no regrets and views the experience as a necessary step in her personal growth. 'Being in a relationship doesn't define me. I can't be looking for happiness in other people. I have to have happiness within myself,' she said. Lopez's reflections resonate with many South Africans who understand the importance of self-love and resilience in the face of adversity. Looking ahead, Lopez is ready to embrace new beginnings. A source close to her revealed she is 'ready to put herself out there again' and open to finding love once more. Friends have encouraged her to date, and she remains optimistic about the future. Jennifer Lopez's story is a powerful reminder of overcoming heartbreak and emerging stronger. Her new music offers not only a glimpse into her journey but also an inspiration to anyone navigating their own 'wreckage' and seeking renewal.
