Indian woman goes missing in US days after arriving for arranged marriage
A 24-year-old Indian woman has gone missing in the United States just days after she arrived there for an arranged marriage, The New York Post reported.
The woman, identified as Simran Simran, landed in the US on June 20. Police in Lindenwold, New Jersey, said she was last seen in surveillance footage, apparently waiting for someone while looking at her phone. Officers said she did not appear to be in any visible distress in the video.
According to the report, local investigators were told that Simran had travelled to the US for an arranged marriage. However, they are also considering the possibility that she may not have intended to marry and could have used the opportunity to make a free trip to America.
Police said Simran has no family in the US and does not speak English. Her international phone works only via Wi-Fi, making it harder for her to reach out for help.
She is described as being 5 feet 4 inches tall, weighing around 68 kg, and having a small scar on the left side of her forehead. She was last seen wearing grey sweatpants, a white T-shirt, black flip-flops, and small diamond-studded earrings.
The search for Simran is ongoing. Authorities have urged anyone with information about her whereabouts to contact them.

Sri Lanka arrests eight Tamil Nadu fishermen
RAMANATHAPURAM: Eight Indian fishermen hailing from Rameswaram were arrested by the Sri Lankan navy in the wee hours of Sunday for allegedly crossing the IMBL, marking the first arrest of fishermen by the island nation since the annual fishing ban was lifted on June 14. The Sri Lankan navy confiscated the boat, bearing the registration number IND-TN-10-MM-773, owned by S Pandiyammal of Rameswaram. Upon return, a few boats allegedly drifted past the IMBL and were chased away by the Sri Lankan navy. However, on Sunday early morning, a boat with an eight-member crew that remained in the Sri Lankan waters was caught near Deft island. They have been remanded till July 3. Fishermen associations in Rameswaram condemned the arrest and urged the centre to secure their release.

The team appointed to investigate the crash started extracting data from the plane's cockpit voice and flight data recorders this week, in an attempt to reconstruct the sequence of events leading to the disaster. Air India has said that the plane was "well-maintained" and that the pilots were accomplished flyers.

‘Have asked parents to take back abandoned baby: Police
PANVEL: Within 24 hours of a two-day old baby girl being found abandoned at Takka in Panvel on Saturday morning, police have traced her parents to Bhiwandi. Both the mother and father are from well-to-do families and they abandoned the baby as their family members did not know about their marriage last year, police said. The couple has been asked to take back the child, presently under the Child Welfare Committee's (CWC) custody, police officers familiar with the case told Hindustan Times. Assistant commissioner of police (crime) Ajay Landge said the baby's parents were traced based on CCTV footage of the car and other technical leads. 'The mother and father are 23 and 24 years old, respectively. Both are educated, from well-to-do families and live in Bhiwandi,' said Landge. Senior police inspector Nitin Thakare from Panvel city police station said they interrogated both parents on Sunday. 'The couple said they had married secretly last year and since their families didn't know about it, they could not keep the child. We have let off with a warning and asked them to take back the child after due process,' said Thakare. The baby is currently under the CWC's custody at Vatsalya Punarvikas Kendra, a rehabilitation centre in Alibaug.
