Absenteeism in public examinations has come down, says Minister Anbil Mahesh
Speaking to the reporters after a review meeting regarding the State Level Achievement Survey (SLAS) in Pudukottai, he said that there has been a notable improvement in the last two years in reducing absenteeism in public exams and school dropouts. 'Efforts have been taken to make the absentees appear for supplementary exams and convince the parents of the dropouts to send their children back to school. We are keen on preventing students from leaving the education system.'
He added that block-level review has been conducted in the district, and the low-performing block has been instructed to improve its performance by next year.
When asked about the steps to improve infrastructure in government schools, Mr. Poyyamozhi said that the infrastructural needs, such as new classrooms, toilets, etc, in each school have been noted and would be fulfilled soon. So far, over 8,000 classrooms have been constructed in the State at a cost of ₹5,500 crore, he added.
Earlier, Mr. Poyyamozhi held a review meeting for the school heads of government and aided schools in Thanjavur. The School Education Department conducted the SLAS for students of classes III, V and IIIV in government and aided schools to identify learning gaps and plan academic interventions.
As many as 11,550 Class III students from 1,374 schools, 12,540 Class V students from 1,379 schools and 10,663 Class IIIV students from 548 schools took the exam, and the district secured 58.41 per cent in SLAS. Steps would be taken to carry out the survey and improve the learning ability in children, he added.

Lokesh directs officials to launch skill portal by September 1
Minister for Human Resource Development (HRD) and IT Nara Lokesh on Friday directed officials of the Skill Development Corporation to launch the proposed 'Skill Portal', a platform to connect the youth and industries, by September 1. Addressing a review meeting, Mr. Lokesh said the portal should include skill assessments and provide the latest information on vacancies in companies to help the youth enhance their skills accordingly and secure employment. He wanted the officials to coordinate with various departments to gather comprehensive data. The Minister asked the officials to organise job fairs every three months in each assembly constituency and prepare an action plan for effective functioning of the district employment offices. Interacting with officials of the Overseas Manpower Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (OMCAP), the Minister directed them to hold discussions with embassies of various countries to make overseas jobs and employment opportunities more accessible. The officials said the State had been granted Central funds to the tune of ₹600 crore for development of Industrial Training Institutes under the 'Hub and Spoke' initiative, following the Minister's recent visit to Delhi. Effective implementation of UDISE In a review meeting with the officials of Intermediate Education department, Mr. Lokesh instructed them to ensure effective implementation of the United District Information System for Education (UDISE) in Intermediate education. The officials told him that 5,00,965 students had enrolled in the first year of Intermediate education in the current academic year. The Minister said every student should be enrolled in either Intermediate or a vocational education courses after Class 10. 'No student should be allowed to remain at home,' he said categorically. He said the officials should track the enrolment status of each student and coordinate with the School Education Department. Briefing the Minister, the officials said the Ákshara Andhra', a literacy initiative aimed at eradicating illiteracy, would be launched across the State on August 7. Director of School Education Department V. Vijay Ramaraju, Samagra Shiksha State Project Director B. Srinivasa Rao, Commissioner, Intermediate Education, Kritika Shukla and others were present. Officials lauded for smooth conduct of DSC Mr. Lokesh lauded the officials at State and district levels for the successful conduct of the mega District Selection Committee (DSC) examinations. 'After seven years, Mega DSC 2025 was conducted smoothly over 23 days to recruit 16,347 teachers,' he posted on 'X'. He said that 3.36 lakh candidates had submitted 5.77 lakh applications, with 92.9 % attendance. The Minister said that provisions like SC sub-categorisation and 3% sports quota ensured equity and inclusion and that the initial keys has been released.

Tripura launches framework to rate schools, CM Manik Saha says ‘it will act as catalyst in education sector'
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha launched the Tripura School Quality Assessment and Accreditation Framework (TSQAAF) at the Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhawan in Agartala on Friday. At the launch event, CM Saha said, 'This TSQAAF is a new direction for Tripura. It will act as a catalyst in the education sector.' The chief minister added that a good amount of funds is being invested in the education sector, leading to an overall improvement in the state's education profile. CM Saha also informed that the state government has recently recruited 226 graduate and undergraduate teachers. 'We are recruiting transparently through the Teachers' Recruitment Board of Tripura (TRBT). We shall fill vacancies with qualified teachers,' Saha said. He also reminded the audience that Tripura recently became only the third 'fully literate' state in India under the Understanding Lifelong Learning for All in Society (ULLAS) – Nav Bharat Saksharta Karyakram. 'Tripura became a fully literate state after Mizoram and Goa, with a literacy rate of 95.6 per cent. The pass percentages in Class 10 and 12 have crossed 86 per cent and 79 per cent, respectively. In Vidyajyoti schools, pass percentages in Class 10 and Class 12 have increased by 26 per cent and 21 per cent, respectively, from last year. We expect even better results in the future,' the chief minister said. Saha said that earlier literacy programs were limited to teaching people to sign their names, but the current focus has expanded to reading, writing, basic arithmetic, critical life skills, and vocational skills, among others. 'Education is not just about acquiring formal certificates; it's a vital catalyst for instilling moral values in life,' the CM added. Later in the day, the CM posted on social media, 'Tripura has already taken robust steps to implement the National Education Policy. The School Education Department is working tirelessly to create a healthy, competitive environment, transforming each school into a centre of excellence… 'Just as NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) accredits higher education institutions based on quality standards, we're launching TSQAAF for schools.'

MP: CM Yadav transfers laptop grants of Rs 235.58 crore to 94,234 meritorious students
Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], July 4 (ANI): Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Friday transferred Laptop grants worth Rs 235.58 crore to bank accounts of 94,234 students who scored 75 per cent or more marks in the class 12th board examination of the Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education in academic session 2024-25. The laptop aid was given to the students at the rate of Rs 25,000 each under 'Pratibhashali Vidyarthi Protsahan Yojana' of the School Education Department during a programme held at Kushabhau Thakre Convention Centre in Bhopal. After the programme, CM Yadav told reporters, 'Today, a programme of providing laptop aid to 94234 students of private as well as government schools across state who scored 75 per cent or more marks in the class 12th board examination of MPBSE was concluded. I am happy to share that the way we have encouraged our students within the last two years is a big achievement. Additionally, with the previous tenure of Shivraj Singh Chouhan and till date over 4 lakh (4, 32,016) students have benefited from the scheme in the last 15 years.' 'On the one hand, the state government is providing laptops to students who scored 75 per cent or above marks and scooty to school toppers. Along with the scooty, students who are getting enrolled in class 6th or 9th are provided bicycles. The government is providing funds for uniforms and books are given to students through the government arrangement,' the CM said. Based on Sandipani School, the state government earned international fame. It indicates that the state government is committed to quality school education in schools and, similarly, in all sectors of education. The government is also ready to pay the fees of students for higher education. 'Our children should become educated, successful and take the state forward. Keeping these things in view, the state should grow ahead in the academic field within the country, therefore, medical colleges are also being set up at a fast pace in Madhya Pradesh. Various campuses of all types of universities are opening in Madhya Pradesh. Four days ago, we opened a campus of Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU) in RGPV, Bhopal. With this, I would like to make a note that there will be a revolution in the education field in the future and Madhya Pradesh will progress progressively under the leadership of the Prime Minister,' he added. Under 'Pratibhashali Vidyarthi Protsahan Yojana', students who have secured 75 per cent or more marks in the Class 12 board exams conducted by the Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education will receive Rs 25,000 each in their bank accounts for purchasing a laptop. This year, 94,234 meritorious students will receive a total of Rs 235.58 crore under the scheme. During the Year 2023-24, Rs 224.27 crore was transferred to the bank accounts of 89,710 meritorious students under this scheme. The scheme launched in Year 2009-10 has so far benefited 4,32,016 students, with a total disbursement of Rs 1,080.04 crore for laptops in the past 15 years. (ANI)
