Can Bills' Keon Coleman Make 'Big Splash' In Year 2? originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Last season, Buffalo Bills rookie receiver Keon Coleman didn't have the impact the franchise or he wanted.
Just 556 yards and four touchdowns from 29 receptions as a wrist injury and inconsistent performances saw Coleman get some harsh truths dealt this offseason, but he's determined to take a leap in 2025.

Some think Buffalo needs another weapon for Josh Allen, and in particular, a No. 1, but what if Keon is that guy?
Bills legend Steve Tasker named Coleman as one player who should break out this upcoming season.
'My pick for this is going to be Keon Coleman,' Tasker said. "I always look to the youth in this. Somebody [that] still has a high end, still got fresh legs, still got stuff going on that they're exploring, I think something to find out about the game at the pro level. Keon Coleman, I think, with his physical abilities, work ethic and the environment that he's in, I loved what I was seeing from him just before he got his wrist hurt last year. I really felt like he might have been one of those guys to make a big splash last year, and it was derailed.'

Tasker is right; Coleman was just starting to heat up, posting a 125-yard game, and then had 70 yards and a touchdown against Seattle a week later before his injury, and we never saw him the same for the rest of the year.

But with a full preseason under his belt, more knowledge of the offense and better chemistry with Allen, there is every reason to think Keon might become Buffalo's main weapon in 2025.
Training camp will be a good indication of how he will be used and how well he's traveling in the system, but everything feels set for Coleman to develop into the type of weapon the Bills need to get over that playoff hump.

DeMaurice Smith slams Roger Goodell, Jerry Jones, Aaron Rodgers in new book

DeMaurice "De" Smith hasn't served as the NFL Players Association's executive director for more than two years. But there's clearly no love lost between him and some of the NFL's most important figures. According to Awful Announcing, Smith plans to publish his new book, "Turf Wars," in early August. In it, he slams NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, Dallas Cowboys team owner Jerry Jones, former NFL general counsel Jeff Pash and Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Smith calls Goodell "a cold, dark void" who "was in the employ of madmen." Jones is characterized as stingy despite his estimated net worth extending into the tens of billions in recent years. Smith writes, "If Jerry Jones saw a dollar bill on the ground, I truly believe he'd stop and pick it up." NFL COLLUSION: In stunning ruling, arbitrator finds NFL encouraged collusion Jones is one of the main names called out in the book, though Smith doesn't let the rest of owners off the hook either. Awful Announcing's report on the early copy of "Turf Wars" includes that its author calls the overall group of NFL owners "a cabal of greedy billionaires." Notably, and despite the general characterization of NFL owners, Patriots owner Robert Kraft receives a nod in the acknowledgements section of Smith's book, according to Awful Announcing. The worst of all top NFL officials, according to Smith, is Pash, who retired in 2024 after 40 years of working with the league. Smith calls Pash "definitely the most unscrupulous. In a corporation filled with ruthless people, Pash has everyone else beat." AARON RODGERS: Steelers QB hosts DK Metcalf, other teammates for Malibu workout Smith didn't stop at calling out NFL executives, either. Awful Announcing reported that the former head of the NFLPA called Rodgers "the god of Cheesehead Nation" and "isolated and dismissive." Writes Smith: "He sat in the back row of the meeting room, issuing loud sighs before standing for a dramatic exit. An incredible quarterback, to be sure, but an even more impressive antagonist." That wasn't all. "In August 2021, my phone chirped with a text from Aaron Rodgers," Smith writes. "'Can you call me?' it read. Could I not run into traffic instead?" Smith's criticism of players didn't stop with Rodgers. Also on the chopping block is Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins, who Smith calls out for criticizing players that kneeled during the national anthem because it "may be hurting the game and having an effect on revenue." NFL 2025: Predicting the 4 most explosive offensive players in the league Smith served as the NFLPA's executive director from 2009 until 2023. During his tenure, he dealt with the 2011 NFL lockout amid new contract bargaining agreement (CBA) negotiations and the "Deflategate" incident from the 2014 AFC championship game. Smith also was the man who filed the initial complaint with arbitrator Christopher Droney that accused NFL owners of collusion. Droney ultimately dismissed the case, though not before noting in a 61-page document that the NFL Management Council "encouraged 32 member Clubs of the NFL to reduce guarantees in future contracts with players at the March 2022 annual meeting." The report ultimately found that NFL owners had not been engaging in collusive conduct, but the document remained under wraps until Pablo Torre unveiled it on his podcast, "Pablo Torre Finds Out" late last month.

Packers' Jordan Love Called Out Ahead of Pivotal 2025 Season

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Green Bay Packers and Jordan Love enter the 2025 NFL season with big expectations. They expect to be a top-tier contender in the NFC and one of the top Super Bowl contenders in the entire league. Over the last couple of years since Aaron Rodgers departed, Love has been able to lead the Packers to the playoffs in each season. However, the team has been eliminated in the Divisional Round of the playoffs and in the Wild Card. In the third year with Love as the team's starter, the expectations have increased. He had a solid season, but it wasn't great. Love's performance left a lot to be desired. Heading into the 2025 campaign, Love has received a new major warning. NFL insider Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk has issued a strong message to Love. He believes that the Green Bay quarterback will be on the hot seat if he doesn't pick up his level of play. "He's not on the hot seat per se, but he needs to play better in 2025 than he did in 2024," Florio said. "If not, he will be on the hot seat in 2026. The wild card in Green Bay is new CEO Ed Policy, who operates as the de facto owner of the team." That strong warning is warranted. Love is getting paid like a top quarterback in the NFL. He needs to start producing at that level. During the 2024 campaign, Love played in 15 regular season games. He completed 63.1 percent of his pass attempts for 3,389 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. That cannot keep happening if the Packers are going to be a legitimate Super Bowl contender. Entering the 2025 season, Love has a ton of weapons and another offseason of work. He should show an improved version of himself. If he doesn't, Green Bay may need to have some tough conversations. Hopefully, all of this is completely put to rest by Love. He's more than capable of a breakout season, but he needs to show it on the field. For more Green Bay Packers and NFL news, head over to Newsweek Sports.

Chinese soccer club fined for placing ‘feudal superstitious items' in away locker room

A Chinese soccer club has been fined by the Chinese Professional Football League (CFL) for placing 'feudal superstitious items' in the away team's dressing room. Changchun Xidu FC, who play in China League Two — the nation's third division — have been fined 30,000 yuan (£3,070, $4,100) for the incident against Shanxi Chongde Ronghai on June 28. A statement from the CFL said the club had 'placed a number of feudal superstitious items in the away team's dressing room' before the match, and in accordance with the CFL's Discipline and Ethics Code, they had breached Article 115 and Article 116. A report in the Shanghai-based City News Service claims how photos that had been widely shared online showed yellow paper charms inscribed with messages such as: 'By decree, Shanxi Chongde Ronghai must be defeated.' 'The CFL will resolutely and seriously deal with all kinds of violations of regulations and disciplines in accordance with the provisions of the Discipline and Ethics Code,' the CFL statement added. 'This is in place to purify the atmosphere of the stadium, and for all participants to jointly maintain the order of the game and hard-won environment.' Changchun Xidu, second in the China League Two standings, won the match 2-0. (Catherine Ivill – FIFA/FIFA via Getty Images)
