Benjamin Sesko set to receive huge transfer offer after surprise Arsenal U-turn

Daily Mirror10-07-2025
Arsenal have been heavily linked with RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko but the Slovenia star could now be on the move elsewhere with the Gunners targeting Viktor Gyokeres
Al-Hilal could table a substantial offer to Benjamin Sesko in a bid to lure the RB Leipzig striker to the Saudi Pro League now that Arsenal are advancing in talks for Viktor Gyokeres.
Sesko, 22, has been courted by a host of clubs this summer including Arsenal, who have been weighing up whether to prioritise a move for the Slovenia star or Gyokeres. The Gunners have since made the latter their primary transfer target, with talks now underway with Sporting Lisbon over a deal.

Where that leaves Sesko remains to be seen, though the striker could still leave Leipzig this summer.

He has no shortage of suitors elsewhere including Saudi Arabia, where Al-Hilal are ready to launch a serious charm offensive to land him.
According to The Sun, Sesko has emerged as one of the club's top striker targets with Victor Osimhen favouring a return to Turkey with Galatasaray.
And Al-Hilal may respond to that snub by turning their attention to Sesko once they close a deal for the AC Milan and France full-back, Theo Hernandez.

Leipzig are demanding at least £77million to let Sesko go this summer as suitors across Europe and beyond line up for the talented frontman. Arsenal were thought to be leading that queue with Sesko earmarked as a top target.
But they have since decided to go in a different direction after failing to agree personal terms with Sesko or a transfer fee with the striker's club.

While Arsenal continue to try and thrash out a deal for Gyokeres with Sporting, it remains to be seen if Sesko would be tempted by a move to the Saudi Pro League at this stage of his career should Al-Hilal make an approach.
His stock is high after breaking the 20-goal barrier for Leipzig last season and other suitors are expected to emerge if Arsenal close a deal for Gyokeres.

Al-Hilal have other options on their striker wishlist which could impact other Premier League clubs, too. Crystal Palace 's Jean-Philippe Mateta is one of the names on said list and could be on the move this summer.
Moise Kean, the Fiorentina striker, who scored 25 goals in all competitions last term. Intriguingly, he has also been linked with Manchester United, like Sesko and Mateta.

EXCLUSIVE Man United ready to make shock move for Emi Martinez to solve their goalkeeper conundrum - but Aston Villa's valuation of their World Cup winner could be a stumbling block

Manchester United are ready to approach Aston Villa about a move for Emi Martinez as they look to solve their goalkeeper conundrum. With Andre Onana ruled out for the start of the new Premier League season due to a torn hamstring, United boss Ruben Amorim needs a top-quality option between the posts to stiffen his side's spine. Amorim has added Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbuemo to his squad but the Portuguese has now set his sights on Argentine World Cup winner Martinez to provide the third leg of his summer rebuild. It is understood United held discussions over the weekend about signing the 32-year-old who, ironically, was sent-off in the final match of last season at Old Trafford when Villa lost 2-0 and missed out on a Champions League spot. The prospect of a loan for Martinez, who earlier this summer rebuffed the chance to join the Saudi Pro League, has been discussed but it is extremely doubtful whether Villa would sanction such a deal. Martinez was rewarded with a long-term contract 12 months ago, one which runs until 2029, and there would be nothing for them to gain by allowing him to join United on a temporary basis. The prospect of a loan for Martinez, who earlier this summer rebuffed the chance to join the Saudi Pro League, has been discussed United, who are also looking at Antwerp's Senne Lammens, are staying tight-lipped on the situation, while Villa have stressed they have not received any contact. Villa value their vice-captain in the region of £40million but whether United would be willing – or able – to meet that figure is open to debate. It is a situation that is expected to play out over the coming weeks.

Chelsea set astonishing asking price for Manchester United transfer target

Chelsea have set an astonishing asking price for Nicolas Jackson who has emerged as a transfer target for Manchester United. The Blues spent £32million on the Senegal international who joined the west London club from Villarreal two years ago. Jackson has shown flashes of potential during two turbulent years at Stamford Bridge but has been let down by inconsistent finishing and a suspect temperament. Sent off in a potentially decisive defeat against Newcastle at the end of last season, Jackson was again in hot water when he was dismissed in Chelsea Club World Cup defeat against Flamengo. Jackson was used sparing thereafter and made only one subsequent appearance as a second half substitute against Fluminense. With Joao Pedro having made a sensational start to his Chelsea career and fellow summer recruit Liam Delap also an option, Jackson looks likely to fall down the pecking order should he stay and fight for his place. With United's increasingly desperate search for a new centre forward intensifying, however, Chelsea have upped their valuation of a player who also has admirers at Liverpool. According to Sky Sports, Chelsea will demand between £80m and £100m having taken note of the fee Liverpool are willing to pay for Eintracht Frankfurt's Hugo Ekitike. The Red Devils, meanwhile, begun their pre-season campaign against Leeds United on Saturday having made just two significant additions to their squad. Matheus Cunha's move from Wolves was wrapped up early in the window with the minimum of fuss, while it remains to be seen how prominently teenager Diego Leon will feature following his move from Cerro Porteno. Ruben Amorim had hoped that Bryan Mbeumo's transfer would have been resolved by now, but Brentford's refusal to be railroaded into a sale has seen that saga drag on. United are confident that a third bid, closer to the Bees valuation, will see the Cameroon forward join imminently, but United are still desperately short of attacking options. More Trending Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have both been linked with returns to Serie A having failed to convince they are worthy of being regarded as United's main source of goals. United had shown interest in Amorim's former Sporting Lisbon charge, Viktor Gyokeres, but the Sweden international has been steadfast in his determination to join the Gunners. Amorim's club still maintain an interest in Benjamin Sesko but are unlikely to be able to match RB Leipzig's demands. Rio Ferdinand and Michael Carrick reactions to Sir Alex Ferguson's brutal response speak volumes

Rio Ferdinand was busy chatting with his former Manchester United team-mate Michael Carrick on his podcast when Sir Alex Ferguson walked into the room to interrupt Sir Alex Ferguson still commands the respect of his former Manchester United players – even when he is interrupting. ‌ Ferguson left United in 2013 after 26 years at the helm of the club and his influence on the club is still huge. The 83-year-old coached hundreds of players during his time in charge at Old Trafford and to many his work was life-changing. ‌ Many of his former players are now trying to make their way as managers – and one of them was on Rio Ferdinand's podcast recently. Michael Carrick joined his former United team-mate on Rio Ferdinand Presents for a detailed chat about their era at the club, the current crop and Carrick's own insights as a coach. ‌ Carrick spoke about Kobbie Mainoo, Scott McTominay and Bruno Fernandes, the genius of Paul Scholes and much more, before Ferguson derailed their chat. Recording in an empty restaurant, Ferguson gate-crashed the recording and was not happy to see the cameras and microphones. Walking into the shot, Ferguson said abruptly: 'What's this? I'm not doing this podcast!' Ferdinand responded: 'Alright boss? No, no, no. We're going to talk after. You go and get a coffee, boss.' Carrick added: 'No, we're just finishing now.' Ferguson replied: 'Oh, you're just finishing?' Carrick: 'Yeah, don't worry, this is not for you.' Ferdinand: 'We're going to get a bit of food with you after. You've not dressed for the camera, boss, have you? You've not dressed up for the cameras.' Carrick: 'Have a quick coffee, boss, and we'll be with you in a sec. Did you think this was for you?' Ferguson: 'I'll go sit over here. I just want to listen to the nonsense that you talk!' ‌ After taking a seat just behind Ferdinand off-camera, Ferguson still managed to interrupt. Five minutes later, his phone rang very loudly, interrupting their conversation. But Ferdinand was clear: 'It's fine, it's the gaffer, we've just got to get on with it!' That deference that Ferdinand and Carrick show Ferguson should come as no surprise, given the respect they have for their former manager. Ferguson won 38 trophies during his tenure at United, from 1986 to 2013, including 13 Premier League titles, five FA Cups, four League Cups and two Champions League titles. He led his players with an authoritarian style, which some responded well to, and his workaholic nature inspired many. 'He was an animal. When you look back at his age, how long he'd been at the club - his appetite for the game, his appetite for rebuilding a team, it was crazy,' Ferdinand once reflected. 'Even in the last year of his time at Man United, he's coming in earlier than everyone else. Nine times out of 10, you walk out to the car and he's still there.'
