Fadnavis terms Dubey's remarks ‘improper': Nobody can deny contribution of Marathi people
'Though he hasn't said it to all Marathi people, it is improper to say such things as it leads to different interpretations,' the CM told mediapersons outside the Vidhan Bhavan.
In the wake of the language row in Maharashtra, Jharkhand MP Dubey had said that if the Thackerays step out of Maharashtra, 'they will be thrashed repeatedly'.
'You people (Marathis) are surviving on our money. What kind of industries do you have? If you are brave enough to beat Hindi speakers, then you should also beat those who speak Urdu, Tamil, and Telugu,' he had said.
Reacting to the comment, Fadnavis said that Marathis have always stood against foreign invaders and have kept the Indian culture alive by fighting against them.
Praising the battle history of Maratha warriors, the chief minister said, 'Nobody can deny the contribution of Marathi people and nobody should even try to do it.'
Speaking about police denying permission for the MNS march in Mumbai's Mira Road on Tuesday morning, Fadnavis said that it was denied as the party leaders insisted on a particular route for the protest, which could have led to law and order issues.
Several MNS workers were detained in this connection since last night. The MNS had called the protest to counter a stir organised by traders after a shop owner was recently thrashed by party workers for refusing to speak in Marathi.
'I inquired with the police as to why permission was denied for the MNS protest march. I was told that they were insistent on a route which would lead to conflict. The police also said that they had inputs about some people who wanted to indulge in some other activities,' Fadnavis said, adding that the police repeatedly requested them to change the route, but they did not accept it. So the permission was denied.
Fadnavis added that permission can be given to anyone to hold protest marches, but if someone wants to hold it on their terms and disturb law and order, then it is not good.

Rising atrocities against tribals & Dalits in Bihar a grave concern: CM
1 2 Ranchi: A day after five members of a family were burnt alive in election-bound Bihar, Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren, who is looking after his ailing father Shibu Soren at a Delhi hospital, said he cannot keep quiet when Dalits and poor people are tortured. In the Bihar incident, a mob lynched five members of a tribal family and later burnt them alive in Purnia late on Sunday night charging them with witchcraft. Taking to X, Hemant appealed to his Bihar counterpart, Nitish Kumar, to stake strict action against the perpetrators. "I urge the Chief Minister of Bihar, Shri @NitishKumar ji, to issue directives to take appropriate steps to swiftly apprehend the culprits and ensure they receive the most stringent punishment. The continuously increasing atrocities on tribals/Dalits in Bihar are a matter of grave concern." In Ranchi, Hemant's party JMM, too, expressed shock and grave concern over the situation. Mounting pressure on BJP, which is part of alliance govt led by Nitish Kumar (JDU) in Bihar, JMM's general secretary Supriyo Bhattacharjee said, "Whatever happened in Purnia is part of the spree of attacks on the poor, tribals, marginalised and minorities in places wherever BJP is directly or partly in power. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 20 Pieces of Clothing you should Ditch over 40 Learn More Undo Bihar is the latest example. " He added that BJP, which is trying to allegedly throw many out of Bihar's voters' list through the ECI's special amendment drive ahead of the election in the neighbouring state, is also using such violent tactics to silence voters, who are against the saffron party. The JMMM leader also questioned the role of the police in the entire episode. "The harrowing incident that happened with the family lasted for several hours — from beating them at one place to burning the five at different place and dumping bodies at another location. What was Bihar police doing all these while?" he said.

2026 polls fight for Bengali Hindus, nationalist Muslims to retain identity: Samik
1 2 Kolkata: Bengal BJP president Samik Bhattacharya said on Tuesday that the 2026 assembly elections will be a fight for Bengali Hindus and nationalist, educated sections of the Muslim community to retain their identity. "This election is a fight to retain the existence of Bengali Hindus and nationalist, logical Muslims in the state. The forces of election in Bengal will not be hijacked by political parties this time," Bhattacharya said. The comments come days after the Bengal BJP chief said his party was not against Muslims even though the minority community might be critical of BJP, in an apparent bid to dent the minority support base of Trinamool Congress . When they set the Indira Gandhi Cultural Center in Bangladesh on fire, Abul Bashar's books burnt along with poems of Joy Goswami," Bhattacharya had said in his first public address after being elected BJP president. On Tuesday, he raised concerns about what he called "the rise of fundamentalist and fascist forces believing in Islam". He said Trinamool's policies have given rise to a situation in which Muslims were being attacked by Muslims. "We are fighting against the lack of education and poverty among the Muslim community. We want Muslim youths to get into govt jobs based on merit, not through quota. They should not follow the ways of Afzal Guru. If Trinamool retains power in 2026, Bengal will remind us of what used to happen in Jammu and Kashmir," he said. "I respect pluralism in politics and BJP believes in multi-party democracy. If pluralism and multi-party democracy are to survive in Bengal, the fundamentalist and fascist forces believing in Islam have to go," Bhattacharya added. The state BJP chief met Dilip Ghosh, the former BJP national vice president on Tuesday. After meeting Bhattacharya, Ghosh said, "I have been with BJP. It has grown because of the sweat and blood of party workers. More than 150 workers were killed. I cannot forget that. Neither can BJP workers forget that. We will uproot Trinamool in 2026." Bhattacharya, on his part, said party veterans will be frontrunners in the 2026 campaign. "There is no debate between veterans and newcomers. BJP advanced in Bengal only because veterans paved the way," he added.

Jr docs to stay away from BJP's Nabanna march
Kolkata: The West Bengal Junior Doctors' Front (WBJDF), which spearheaded the RG Kar movement, has planned out programmes for Aug 8 and 9 to mark the one year of the rape and murder of their 31-year-old colleague. The organisation has clearly stated it will not be part of the 'Nabanna Abhiyan', announced by BJP MLA Suvendu Adhikari, in which the victim's parents are scheduled to participate. "We will not participate in the Nabanna Abhiyan as we feel it is a political move. Our question to BJP's Leader of Opposition is, while the state govt failed to ensure justice for Abhaya, why is he not raising questions against the CBI, which is a central govt agency that has also failed to procure justice for our colleague?" said Debasish Halder of WBJDF. Among the programmes by the WBJDF will be a torch rally from College Square on the intervening night of Aug 8 and 9, Raksha Bandhan on Aug 9 and a gathering in front of the 'Cry of the Hour' statue at RG Kar, where the members will stage a protest against the threat culture on campus and the rape. "The heinous crime was committed between midnight and 4 am on that dark night. We will be out on the road to remind all that our colleague is yet to get justice," said Halder. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The torch rally will end at Shyambazar, where the participants plan to stay the night, staging plays and drawing graffiti. Why is the supplementary charge sheet still not filed? Justice is pending, and we will keep reminding citizens and authorities of it until justice is served," said Aniket Mahata of WBJDF. About the law college rape, WBJDF said only a democratic environment at educational institutes could stop such crimes on campuses. The organisation is discussing if they would send representatives to another Aug 9 event by Abhaya Mancha on the same issue. "We are in touch with Abhaya's parents, and we will continue to support them in every avenue they take to seek justice," said Arnab Mukhopadhayay of WBJDF.
