Michigan football's 2026 class hits top 10 with Carter Meadows' commitment

USA Today17 hours ago

At this time last week, Michigan football wasn't even in the top 25 teams in terms of college football recruiting rankings. By Friday evening, the Wolverines were just outside the top 10.
Now, they're firmly in it.
That's because the maize and blue secured the commitment of 2026 Washington (D.C.) Gonzaga five-star edge rusher Carter Meadows on Sunday, helping propel a very good class into a potentially great one. With Meadows in the fold, he's already the highest-ranked commit that the Wolverines have, and now the top of the class is surging on top of the numbers growing.
With Meadows in the fold, here is how Michigan rose in the 247Sports team rankings to No. 9 (up from 11), with an average rating of 91.13, and a total score of 241.49. With 18 commitments, Michigan is now ahead of Penn State, which has 23.
Here is the full class using 247Sports Composite rankings:
The class is expected to continue growing with four-star cornerback Andre Clarke set to decide on Monday, four-star nickel Donovan Webb set to decide on Wednesday, while four-star offensive lineman John Turntine III and five-star wide receiver Calvin Russell are set to decide on Friday. All but Turntine have at least one prediction indicating they'll choose the maize and blue.
With Meadows off the board, there are but two big fish remaining in the 2026 class in the aforementioned Calvin Russell as well as Mineral (Va.) Louisa County five-star running back Savion Hiter.

USC Trojans Recruiting Target Sets Commitment Date, Party

Earlier this month, Feaster went on his official visit to USC. The four-star receiver is interested in the Trojans and playing in USC coach Lincoln Riley's offense. Riley also has a proven track record of having great quarterbacks which has greatly benefited wide receivers. "With USC, you know they will have a great quarterback throwing their receivers the ball with Lincoln Riley the head coach. They keep good players and the offense would be fun to play in," Feaster told On3 in February. Riley has coached three of the last eight Heisman trophy winners in quarterbacks' Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray, and Caleb Williams. All three of these players eventually went on to be No. 1 overall picks in the NFL Draft. Mayfield, Murray, and Williams are still starting quarterbacks in the NFL today. Feaster also spoke to 247Sports about USC prior to his visit on June 5. He acknowledged that this commitment decision between the four schools will not be an easy one to make. "It's going to be a real hard decision come July 4th," Feaster said. "The only thing I would say is that I'm kind of ready for it to get over with because of all the coaches I've built a relationship with over the years and the fact that I'm going to have to let three schools down…That's probably going to be the hardest part. The fact that I'm going to have to disappoint some people." Feaster is rated as a four-star recruit and ranked as the No. 4 wide receiver in the class of 2026 according to 247Sports Composite. The USC Trojans currently have No. 1 ranked 2026 recruiting class per 247Sports. USC also has the most amount of commits in the country with 30. Lincoln Riley is eyeing his best recruiting class since taking the USC job prior to the 2022 season. Leading this USC class is a pair of five-stars; offensive tackle Keenyi Pepe and tight end Mark Bowman. Adding Feaster to this class would be another feather in the cap for USC's offseason. There is a lot of momentum that is picking up for USC and it starts with this 2026 recruiting class. Brian Branch: Lions feel invincible on defense

The Lions fell short of their goal last season, but safety Brian Branch believes their experience in 2024 sets them up well for success in 2025. Branch made the Pro Bowl after playing in 16 regular season games and that availability made him an outlier on the team's defense. Defensive end Aidan Hutchinson, linebacker Alex Anzalone, defensive tackle Alim McNeill and several other defensive players missed time with injuries that left the team scrambling to fill out the unit at times. Advertisement The group still played well enough for the Lions to earn the top seed and Branch said going through those tribulations has left the unit feeling more confident about the future. 'We went through the ups and downs,' Branch said to Rainer Sabin of the Detroit Free Press. "We fought together in tough games. We have been in a game where it depended on us to win. So, it just makes everybody buy in. Once you have a group that has bought in and has gone through trials and tribulations, we feel invincible.' Branch said he feels "we're better than last year" and the test of that will come when we find out if their stay in the playoffs lasts longer than one game this time around.

Oregon Ducks 4-star CB Xavier Lherisse impresses scouts at OT7 camp

While the Oregon Ducks' 2026 class may be small in size as we transition from June into July, it certainly isn't lacking star power at the top. With 5-star players like Jett Washington and Kendre Harrison, plus high-end 4-stars like Tradarian Ball and Messiah Hampton, the next several months are going to be filled with highlights from recruiting camps, and eventually games from these top prospects. This past weekend, Washington was named the "Alpha Dog" at the OT7 camp by 247Sports for his dominant performance. Washington wasn't the only Duck to turn heads at the camp on Saturday. According to 247Sports' Tom Loy, Ducks' fellow safety commit Xavier Lherisse had a great showing as well, taking one interception all the way to the house and making some players look foolish while trying to get him down. "I think Oregon is getting one of the most talented defensive backs in the country, one of the best pure football players in the secondary," Loy said. "He had, in my opinion, over the last two days, the interception of the weekend. I think they called him down, but he looked untouched. It was an incredible return; he was shaking guys left and right. So, a really strong performance from him." At the moment, Lherisse is one of the lower-rated players in the Ducks' 2026 class, sitting as a 3-star, per 247Sports, but a 4-star on the 247Sports Composite, ranked as the No. 363 overall player and No. 32 safety. However, with more performances like this, it's not hard to imagine him getting a ratings boost in the near future ahead of signing day.
