Deliver Tejas engines on priority, Rajnath tells US
Pakistan army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir has continued with his rant against India, reaffirming Pakistan's commitment to providing support to the Kashmiri people for their "legitimate struggle".
Singh, on his part, told Hegseth that India appreciates the unwavering support extended by the US for its fight against terrorism.
"On defence cooperation, the two agreed to further build upon the momentum of this critical and mutually beneficial partnership across all its pillars such as interoperability, integration of defence industrial supply chains, logistics sharing, increased joint military exercises and cooperation with other like-minded partners," an official said.
Singh asked Hegseth to ensure faster deliveries of the long-delayed General Electric GE-F404 engines for the indigenous Tejas-Mark 1A fighters as well as the early conclusion of the agreement to jointly produce the more powerful GE-F414 engines in India.
The defence minister also pushed for the delivery of the six Apache heavy-duty attack helicopters that the Indian Army had ordered in a Rs 5,691 crore deal in Feb 2020 but is yet to get.

"The six Apaches will now be delivered before this year ends," another official said. The almost two-year delay in delivery of 99 GE-F404 engines by US firm General Electric, which Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) had ordered for Rs 5,375 crore in Aug 2021, is one of the main reasons for not even the first Tejas Mark-1A fighter to be delivered to the IAF yet. After the 83 "improved" Tejas Mark-1A jets are delivered under the defence ministry's Rs 46,898 crore deal inked with HAL in Feb 2021, another 97 of those jets for Rs 67,000 crore will also be in the pipeline.

Projects under 15th Finance Commission should be completed on time: Ajit Pawar
Mumbai: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Ajit Pawar on Wednesday directed officials of various departments to ensure a timely and high-quality completion of all projects initiated under the 15th Finance Commission. At the review meeting, Pawar said, 'The state is receiving full support from the central government for these projects. All plans have been designed considering the requirements of the next century. Departments must coordinate closely and ensure that every rupee from the Finance Commission is utilised before the end of the current financial year, and not a single rupee is returned.' He held an extensive review of major projects including creation of artificial coral reefs using the decommissioned INS Guldar near Sindhudurg, along with world-class scuba diving, submarine tourism, and an underwater museum, construction of Unity Mall near the international airport at Ulwe in Navi Mumbai, development of the Ram-Kal-Path in Nashik, construction of hostels for working women in Thane, Nagpur, Navi Mumbai, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Kalyan-Dombivli, and Solapur, conservation of cultural heritage, development of Rewas Redi coastal highway, housing schemes for police personal and projects undertaken by Urban Development, Rural Development, Disaster Management, Public Health. Deputy CM Pawar assured the state government's full support in removing any hurdles but emphasised that all projects must be completed within the timeline and meet high-quality standards. Senior officials from the departments of Finance, Planning, Urban Development, Tourism, Public Health, Forest, and Public Works attended the meeting. Earlier on Monday, Ajit Pawar presented supplementary demands worth Rs 57,509.71 crore for the financial year 2025-26 on the first day of the Monsoon Session of the Legislature. This came amid reported constraints over the availability of adequate funds due to the ballooning fiscal and revenue deficits and mounting public debt. Of the Rs 57,509.71 crore, the allocation of Rs 19,183.85 crore has been made for committed expenditure and the balance is to provide funds for various government programmes and also towards the state government's contribution in the implementation of Central government schemes. Deputy CM Pawar, during the budget session held in March this year, had tabled the supplementary demands worth Rs 6,480.20 crore.

8 detained in Delhi as ‘illegal' migrants after opting for India in 2015 enclave exchange, released
Eight residents of West Bengal's Cooch Behar district, who were detained in Delhi on the suspicion of being 'illegal' Bangladesh migrants, were released on Tuesday. They were members of families who had relocated to India in the 2015 enclave exchange between India and Bangladesh. All eight were detained by the police on Monday from a brick kiln in Haryana during a drive against undocumented migrants, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest Delhi) Bhisham Singh told The Indian Express. They were released on Tuesday, their family members told Scroll. The release came after the eight migrants produced their resident cards issued by the West Bengal government and other relevant documents, Singh added. Those who were detained were identified as Samsul Haque and his brother Rejaul Haque, Muhammad Rayhan Haque, Muhammad Rabiul Haque, and his wife Rashida Begum, the newspaper reported. Rabiul's three children were also detained. Their family members told The Indian Express that all eight are from Dashiar Chhara, a former Indian enclave in Bangladesh. They had moved to an apartment complex in Cooch Behar's Dinhata area made exclusively for enclave dwellers who had come to India after the exchange in 2015. Their release came the police in Cooch Behar district police contacted their counterparts in Delhi. Samirul Islam, chairperson of the West Bengal migrant welfare board, claimed that such detentions were happening daily to migrants from the state. He alleged that police in Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled states and in Delhi do not bother to inform the state government about such cases. 'We, on our own, have made verifications and sent them the requisite documents,' The Indian Express quoted Islam, also a Trinamool Congress MP, as having said. 'In this case, the district administration got in touch with the Delhi Police authorities.' He added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had welcomed the families to India after the enclave and exclave exchange in 2015. 'Now they are being detained as illegal Bangladeshi citizens,' he was quoted as saying. 'And that too in the national capital.' The exchange of enclaves and exclaves took place on August 1, 2015. Under this agreement, 111 Indian enclaves covering 17,160 acres inside Bangladesh were transferred to Bangladesh, while 51 Bangladeshi enclaves occupying 7,110 acres in India became part of India. The residents of these enclaves were given the option of accepting citizenship of either country. At least 921 residents opted to move to the Indian side. The incident came as Indian authorities have been pursuing a policy to force individuals claimed to be undocumented migrants into Bangladesh. In June, four men from West Bengal, who were forced into Bangladesh on allegations of being undocumented migrants, were brought back. India has pushed back more than 2,000 persons into Bangladesh since the country launched ' Operation Sindoor ', a military operation in May against terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The legality of the 'push back' policy has been debated in India and internationally. Experts have told Scroll that the policy violated India's obligations under international law and customary international law.

In address to BJP workers, Rajnath vows to make Bihar a ‘developed state' under Nitish
Union defence minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday sought to uplift the mood of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers in poll-bound Bihar by offering key strategies for electoral success and addressing any uncertainty within the ranks regarding leadership. (ANI Photo) 'We must once again bring the NDA government to power in Bihar, which has seen a huge transformation under chief minister Nitish Kumar… We should pledge to make Bihar a developed state under the NDA,' Singh said while addressing party workers, MPs and legislators during the day-long state executive committee meeting in Patna. Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal (United) leads the NDA government in Bihar, along with the BJP. The BJP also passed political resolutions on the development that has taken place in the past 11 years under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and 20 years under CM Nitish Kumar in Bihar. 'We will go to the people and present before them the development work and achievements done by the central and Bihar governments,' deputy CM and BJP MLA Samrat Choudhary said during a press conference. The party also passed a 'Vijay Sankalp' resolution to win the elections later this year by a thumping majority. Addressing party workers, Singh said, 'You all are not ordinary workers; you are the creators of a 'Golden Bihar'. This is the moment when, getting inspired by your history, you will work towards the upcoming elections. This is not just a party meeting, but a resolution meeting, and this resolution will take Bihar and India forward.' He added that the state government has fulfilled all the promises made in their manifesto. Singh asked party workers to draw inspiration from Bihar's history and advised them to take the party's work to every household. 'We must instill this very belief in the heart of every resident of Bihar,' he said, predicting a two-thirds majority win. Singh said the reason the BJP has established itself as the largest political party in the world is that everyone works hard, regardless of their position in the party. He said while Indians have lost trust in some leaders, the BJP confronted the challenge head-on by working consistently to restore faith through transparent governance and strong leadership. Targetting the Opposition Singh hit out at the Congress and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) in Bihar, stating that their only motivation is to stay in power while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) remains inspired by the idea of nation-building. 'Political parties like the Congress and RJD have only one objective — to stay in power whereas the BJP is inspired by nation-building. Bihar is not backward, it has been made backward. The objective of the BJP is to ensure a dignified life for every citizen of India. We are all striving to make India's economy the third-largest in the world,' Singh said. Taking a dig at RJD chief Lalu Prasad, Singh said he never respected Jananayak Karpuri Thakur from the heart, while PM Narendra Modi honoured Karpuri Thakur by giving him the 'Bharat Ratna'. Touching on the alleged disrespect shown by the RJD president, Singh said, 'Don't expect an apology from RJD. Lalu Prasad has demeaned Ambedkar.' Bihar BJP also passed a motion condemning RJD president Lalu Prasad for 'insulting' Babasaheb Ambedkar.
