It is the wooden idols of Jagannath, Balaram and Subhadra that have taken the chairot rides. Bipradash Chakraborty, joint secretary of Digha Sankarpur Hoteliers Association, said booking for Ulta Rath had already started.
"The hotels and guest houses near the temple are in high demand. We expect that about 70% odd bookings will be completed by Wednesday. Usually, summer and winter vacations are the peak seasons for the hotel industry in Digha.
This year, Ratha Yatra has become a new boost for our industry, and we are preparing for an influx of devotees from different states during Ulta Rath."
Radharaman Das, a trustee of Digha Jagannath Dham and vice-president of ISKCON Kolkata, said 'Chappanbhog' was being offered to the deities five times daily at the temple.
"Additionally, regular rituals are being performed at Masir Bari around 750 metres from the main temple, where the wooden idols have been kept in chariots. We expect footfall of 70,000 to one lakh devotees at the temple daily until Ulta Rath."
A local tour operator in Digha stated, "We have been running package tours covering Puri and Digha for a long time. This tour has gained momentum due to the chariot festival, as many people will travel to Digha from Puri for Ulta Rath."
Sonia Das, a Garia resident, stated, "The maiden chariot festival of Digha has generated great excitement among people like us. Some of us formed a group in the neighbourhood and travelled to the seaside town. Another group of our neighbours is scheduled to arrive at Digha for Ulta Rath."
Meanwhile, police are implementing a three-tier security system in the town keeping in mind the anticipated rush of devotees. Dibakar Das, SDPO of Contai, stated, "Additional security measures are being implemented throughout Digha for the return journey. Focus is also on the beach area." Some devotees have also planned to visit Puri on Ulta Rath.

Boat-chariot marks a unique festival in Odisha

BERHAMPUR: Kankan Shikhari, a small island near Nairi village in Chilika lake, celebrated Rath Yatra on Friday. Chariot pulling marks Rath Yatra of the holy Trinity in most temples but here at Kankan Shikhari, it is celebrated on water as a beautifully decorated boat-chariot, sails across the Chilika lake. The air reverberates with devotion as the trinity is taken on the chariot-boat, adorned with intricate designs and vibrant colours, gliding around the island. Divisional forest officer (wildlife) of Chilika Amlan Kumar Nayak said, while almost everywhere Rath Yatra is held on land, at Kankan Shikhari the journey takes place entirely on water. This celebration on water dates back to 1731, when Muslim ruler Taqi Khan invaded Srimandir in Puri after which idol of Lord Jagannath was secretly brought to this secluded islet in Chilika for safekeeping. The Lord was offered fruits from the native Kankan tree, and over time, the island came to be known as Kankan Shikhari. Since then, rituals associated with Lord Jagannath have continued here. This year, the yatra is being jointly coordinated by Sushant Kumar Sahu, head of the Kankan Shikhari Jagannath Trust (KSJT), Khurda SP Sagarika Nath, SDPO Sanjay Kumar Patnaik and Nachuni IIC Chandra Sekhar Jena, with active support from the local community. Free boat services were arranged from Nairi Ghat to ferry devotees to the island to witness the rare celebration. The KSJT also made elaborate arrangements for devotees, including distribution of prasad and ensuring safety protocols are followed.

Gautam Adani hails divine experience at Puri Rath Yatra

Puri: Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani on Saturday expressed deep spiritual sentiments on witnessing the divine Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath. Gautam Adani also praised the efforts of the Odisha government, administration, and the people for the grand and well-managed Rath Yatra. 'It is my great fortune that I got the opportunity to come here. Over the past few years, I have deeply felt the divine presence of Mahaprabhu Jagannath in my life. I met with Lord Jagannath when I had nothing in hand, and today, by the grace of the people and the blessings of the Lord, I have everything,' Gautam Adani said, while speaking to the media. 'I prayed for the bright future of India and the development of Odisha. Let Lord Jagannath continuously guide the nation toward progress, and I pray that all people receive the benefits of this progress,' the billionaire industrialist added. Gautam Adani also shared his experience of service during the festival. The Adani Group has initiated the 'Prasad Seva' in Puri Dham and is undertaking a comprehensive 'seva' effort to support both pilgrims and frontline officials during the Rath Yatra from June 26 to July 8. 'For the first time during this divine congregation, we focused on 'seva' (service) as a form of devotion. Over 5,000 people joined hands in service, and we witnessed how this transformed lives. Seva is not limited to religious practice -- it has a tangible impact on society as well,' the Adani Group Chairman said. 'I saw the arrangements myself -- the cleanliness, discipline, and the dedication of administrative and security personnel. It is commendable how Odisha managed such a massive gathering with such grace. I extend my heartfelt appreciation to everyone involved,' Gautam Adani added. Earlier, taking to social media platform X, Gautam Adani called the 'Rath Yatra -- a grand embodiment of faith, service, and unity,' and noted that 'being a witness to this wonderful experience ... will forever remain among the priceless memories of my life'. Meanwhile, lifeguards at the Puri beach expressed immense joy and pride over Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani visiting them and the holy city of Odisha for the divine Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath.
