Guntur Zilla Parishad meet discusses welfare, irrigation, agriculture issues
The session saw participation from key leaders, including MPs Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu, MLAs Kanna Lakshminarayana, Dullipalla Narendra, Julakanti Brahma Reddy, Nakka Anand Babu, and district collectors S Nagalakshmi (Guntur) and Arun Babu (Palnadu). Tributes were paid to freedom fighter Alluri Sitarama Raju on his birth anniversary. Deliberations focused on irrigation, agriculture, and healthcare. Anjaneyulu stressed resolving irrigation project delays, curbing fake seeds and substandard fertilisers, and ensuring proper rehabilitation for Basakacharla project-affected families.
He highlighted schemes including enhanced pensions, three free LPG cylinders annually, and 'Thalliki Vandhanam'. Under 'Annadata Sukhibhava', `20,000 (`6,000 from PM-Kisan and `14,000 from the State) will be disbursed in three phases starting July-end.
The MP advocated securing Central funds for the Varikapudisela project, modernising 90 tanks in Palnadu under the RRR scheme, and setting up PPP-based mini soil testing centres. MLAs called for promoting low-input profitable crops, action against counterfeit seeds, regular irrigation funding and improved rural healthcare infrastructure.

Kurnool: The State Government is fully committed to eradicating poverty and building a prosperous, inclusive society, Industries, Commerce, and Food Processing Minister TG Bharath said on Saturday. Speaking at the inaugural General Body meeting of the Swarnandhra–P4 (Public, Private, People, Partnership) initiative held at the Kurnool Municipal Office, the Minister stated that the administration, under the leadership of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, is progressing with a clear, strategic roadmap aimed at sustainable development. As part of the Swarnandhra Vision–2047 programme, he emphasized the need for rigorous implementation and directed officials to fast-track the identification of eligible families under the Margadarsi and Bangaru Kutumbalu schemes. He announced that by 2029, all eligible families in the constituency would be provided with housing. He further instructed officials to devise an action plan for development projects to be undertaken in the next five years, modernize municipal schools, improve urban parks, and resolve electrical hazards in older parts of the city. He also stressed the importance of beautifying city spaces, including cleaning and painting compound walls along main roads and accelerating tree plantation drives. Directions were issued for the establishment of parking and vending zones, including a new vending facility behind the Punnami Restaurant. He ordered the removal of encroachments on major roads to ease traffic congestion and called for focused efforts in upgrading TIDCO housing colonies. Speaking to the media, he reaffirmed the government's objective of creating a poverty-free society through a systematic and visionary approach. He stated that the meeting discussed key issues concerning the implementation of the P4 framework and various public welfare measures. He reiterated his commitment to fulfilling the 'Super 6' promises made during the elections. He disclosed that by August 15, the government aims to identify 15 lakh Bangaru Kutumbalu and appoint one lakh Margadarsis to offer timely support and continuous guidance to beneficiary families. He clarified that the P4 programme is an extension of the State's welfare vision and not a substitute for existing schemes. Gopal Khemka murder: Rahul Gandhi slams Nitish Kumar, BJP over Patna businessman's murder, calls Bihar ‘India's crime capital'
NEW DELHI: Congress leader and leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi on Sunday hit out at the BJP-led NDA government and Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar over the murder of businessman Gopal Khemka, calling it proof that the state has turned into "India's crime capital". In a post on X, Rahul Gandhi said, 'The brazen murder of businessman Gopal Khemka in Patna has once again proven – the BJP and Nitish Kumar have together turned Bihar into India's crime capital. Today, Bihar lives in the shadow of loot, gunfire, and murder. Crime has become the 'new normal' here – and the government is utterly ineffective.' Appealing to voters, he added, 'Brothers and sisters of Bihar, this injustice can no longer be tolerated. A government that cannot ensure the safety of your children cannot be trusted with your future. Every murder, every robbery, every bullet – is a cry for change. Now is the time for a new Bihar – where there is progress, not fear. This time, your vote is not just to change the government, but to save Bihar.' Businessman Gopal Khemka was shot dead on July 4 around 11 pm near Gandhi Maidan in Patna. Superintendent of Police (SP) Patna, Diksha, confirmed the incident, stating, 'On the night of July 4, at around 11 pm, we received information that businessman Gopal Khemka has been shot dead in the south area of the Gandhi Maidan. The crime scene has been secured, and further investigation is underway. One bullet and one shell have been recovered. ' Director general of police (DGP) Vinay Kumar said a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to probe the case, and will be headed by the SP, City Central. The incident bears resemblance to the 2018 killing of Gopal's son, Gunjan Khemka, a BJP leader and then state convener of the party's small industries cell. Gunjan was shot dead at his cotton bandage factory in Hajipur. Following his murder, there was a reported lack of presence by top BJP leadership at the funeral, which left the family disappointed. Ram Khemka, uncle of the deceased, told TOI at the Gulbi Ghat crematorium, 'Gunjan used to spend 3–4 hours every day working for the BJP. Yet no senior leader or minister even raised their voice against his killing.' Only a few BJP MLAs, including Nitin Navin, Arun Kumar Sinha, and Sanjeev Chaurasia, were present at the funeral. Though state BJP president Nityanand Rai visited later, the family had by then decided not to take Gunjan's body to the party office for last rites. Reacting to the killing, RJD leader Mrityunjay Tiwari said, 'It is very sad. The government will have to answer as a businessman was killed in the posh area of Gandhi Maidan. The police reached after two hours. It happened near the police headquarters. Tejashwi Yadav has been showing the crime bulletin, but this government is sleeping. Bihar wants to get rid of this government now. It is a Gunda Raj, what else?'

We negotiate from position of strength, not under deadlines
Bengaluru: With the Congress mocking the BJP-led NDA government over the proposed trade deal with the US, Union Minister Piyush Goyal on Saturday said India negotiates from a position of strength and not under deadlines. He also accused the Congress of 'negotiating and signing agreements that were not in the national interest' during the party-led UPA government's tenure. Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, had attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the Indo-US trade deal, claiming the PM will 'meekly bow' to the tariff deadline set by the President Trump administration. 'India does not negotiate under deadlines. We negotiate keeping national interest in mind, and national interest is paramount in all our engagements across the world,' Goyal, Commerce and Industry minister, told reporters here. 'After the Modi government came to power, we have signed free trade agreements with Mauritius, the United Arab Emirates, Australia, and the four-nation EFTA (European Free Trade Association) grouping—Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein—and now with the UK last month.' According to him, India continues to engage with other developed nations, including the EU bloc of 27 countries, the US, Oman, Peru, and Chile. 'Today, India negotiates from a position of strength. We are self-confident and can compete with anybody in the world. . This is not the weak India under Congress and the UPA, which signed agreements that were not in the national interest,' he claimed. Goyal had earlier stated that India would accept the proposed trade deal with the US only when it is fully finalised and in the national interest.
