Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday launched 105 development projects valued at over Rs 18,600 crores, unveiled the " Odisha Vision Document " and flagged off new trains during his visit to the state.He also felicitated several people, including ' Lakhpati Didis ' and others. Modi , who visited Odisha for the sixth time since the BJP government was formed in the state in June 2024, launched the projects at a function at Janata Maidan here.The projects launched by the Prime Minister included drinking water and irrigation, health infrastructure, rural roads and bridges, national highways and railway infrastructure.Modi flagged off the first passenger train to Boudh district after inaugurating the Sonepur-Purunakatak railway line. Railway projects such as the third and fourth rail lines between Sarla-Sason and the fourth rail line between Jharsuguda-Jamga were also launched.This apart, Modi also flagged off 100 electric buses under the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) system, promoting eco-friendly urban mobility.Prepared following people's feedback, the Prime Minister unveiled the 'Odisha Vision Document', the roadmap for the state's development goals, anchored around the centenary of Odisha's formation as a linguistic state in 2036 and India's 100 years of independence in 2047.The vision aims to transform Odisha into a Dollar 500 billion economy by 2036 and a Dollar 1.5 trillion economy by 2047.The Prime Minister also launched ' Baraputra Aitihya Gram Yojana ', an initiative to transform birthplaces of Odia icons into memorials, featuring museums, interpretation centres, statues and libraries, thereby promoting cultural tourism and preserving heritage.Modi also felicitated some women achievers from across the state, who included some "Lakhpati Didis".'Lakhpati Didi' is an initiative of the Ministry of Rural Development focused on empowering women in Self-Help Groups (SHGs). The goal is to help them achieve an annual household income exceeding Rs one lakh by adopting sustainable livelihood practices.The state tops the list of creating 16.60 lakh 'Lakhpati Didis' in the country.

Commercial 19-kg LPG cylinder price slashed by 58.50, no change in domestic cylinder rates
New Delhi [India], July 1 (ANI): Oil marketing companies revised the prices of commercial LPG gas cylinders on Tuesday, reducing the cost of a 19 kg commercial cylinder by Rs 58.50. The new rates came into effect from July 1, bringing relief to commercial users such as hotels, restaurants, and businesses. While in Delhi, with the latest revision, the retail sale price of a 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder was set at Rs 1665, down from the previous rate. There was, however, no change in the price of 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinders, which are widely used in households. The commercial LPG cylinder will cost Rs 1,616 in Mumbai, Rs 1,769 in Kolkata and Rs 1,823.50 in Chennai. Meanwhile, a separate development, petrol pumps across the national capital notices warning against fueling End-of-Life Vehicles (ELVs) were seen pasted on display boards. The warning stated that 'fuel will not be dispensed to end-of-life vehicles (ELVs) - 15-year-old petrol and 10-year-old diesel vehicles from July 1, 2025.' Along with these notices, CCTV cameras and speakers were also installed at several fuel stations to monitor compliance and inform customers. On June 27, according to a latest research report by ICICI Bank, global crude oil prices are likely to see a downside, weighed down by the de-escalation of the Israel-Iran conflict, soft demand, and increasing supply. On the demand side, the report suggests that if the negative sentiment regarding the trade war persists, it will result in depressed demand. Additionally, crude oil demand is expected to remain flat in 2025, coming in at relatively unchanged levels of 102.9mbpd as was seen in 2024, taking into account the subdued global growth momentum. On the supply side, the global supply of crude oil followed an upward trajectory on a sequential basis, led by higher production from OPEC, while non-OPEC supply remained fairly robust. 'The physical markets recorded a net supply surplus for the fifth consecutive month of 1.6mbpd in May compared to 1.9mbpd recorded in April,' ICICI Bank said. The demand showed a rise of 0.3mbpd to 102.6mbpd in May. However, this supply-demand equation was not adequate to match the supply of 104.2mbpd that is being driven by increasing output from OPEC. However, the report also highlights that the spike in crude prices in response to the Iran-Israel conflict was much lower than previous geopolitical events such as the Russia-Ukraine war, reflecting an oversupplied physical market that is prevailing at the current juncture. New Delhi [India], July 1 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday shared a detailed reflection on the completion of 10 years of the 'Digital India' initiative, a mission to 'democratise access, build inclusive digital infrastructure, and opportunities for all.' In a post on the social media platform LinkedIn, the Prime Minister shared his blog titled 'A Decade of Digital India' where he stressed that while previous decades were marked by scepticism about Indians' ability to use technology, his government changed that approach by trusting the citizens' capabilities. He emphasised that technology was used not to widen disparities but to bridge the gap between the privileged and the marginalised. The article reads, 'Ten years ago, we embarked on a bold journey into uncharted territory with great conviction. While decades were spent doubting the ability of Indians to use technology, we changed this approach and trusted the ability of Indians to use technology. While decades were spent thinking that the use of technology would deepen the gap between the haves and the have-nots, we changed this mindset and used technology to eliminate the gap between the haves and the have-nots.' 'When the intent is right, innovation empowers the less empowered. When the approach is inclusive, technology brings change in the lives of those on the margins. This belief laid the foundation for Digital India: a mission to democratise access, build an inclusive digital infrastructure, and provide opportunities for all,' it added. Highlighting the progress made since 2014, Prime Minister Modi noted that internet connections in the country have surged from 25 crores to over 97 crores, and over 42 lakh kilometres of Optical Fibre Cable have been laid to provide internet connection to the remotest villages. He wrote, 'In 2014, internet penetration was limited, digital literacy was low, and online access to government services was scarce. Many doubted whether a country as vast and diverse as India could truly go digital. Today, that question has been answered not just in data and dashboards, but in the lives of 140 crore Indians. From how we govern, to how we learn, transact, and build, Digital India is everywhere.' 'In 2014, India had around 25 crore internet connections. Today, that number has grown to over 97 crores. Over 42 lakh kilometres of Optical Fibre Cable, equivalent to 11 times the distance between Earth and the Moon, now connects even the most remote villages. India's 5G rollout is among the fastest in the world, with 4.81 lakh base stations installed in just two years. High-speed internet now reaches urban hubs and forward military posts alike, including Galwan, Siachen, and Ladakh,' PM Modi wrote. The Prime Minister credited the India Stack--India's digital backbone--for powering platforms like UPI, which handles 100+ billion transactions every year. 'India Stack, which is our digital backbone, has enabled platforms like UPI, which now handles 100+ billion transactions a year. Around half of all real-time digital transactions happen in India. Through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), over 44 lakh crore has been transferred directly to citizens, cutting out middlemen and saving 3.48 lakh crore in leakages. Schemes like SVAMITVA have issued 2.4 crore+ property cards and mapped 6.47 lakh villages, ending years of land-related uncertainty,' he said. Saying that India's digital economy is empowering MSMEs and small entrepreneurs, Prime Minister Modi shared how ONDC (Open Network for Digital Commerce) and GeM (Government E-Marketplace) is providing opportunities to small businesses to sell their goods and services in the marketplace. The PM stated, 'India's digital economy is empowering MSMEs and small entrepreneurs like never before. ONDC (Open Network for Digital Commerce) is a revolutionary platform which opens a new window of opportunities by providing a seamless connection with a huge market of buyers and sellers.' 'GeM (Government E-Marketplace) enables the common man to sell goods and services to all arms of the government. This not only empowers the common man with a huge market but also saves money for the Government,' he noted. Citing an example, the Prime Minister said, 'Imagine this: You apply for a Mudra loan online. Your creditworthiness is assessed through an account aggregator framework. You get your loan and start your venture. You register on GeM, supply to schools and hospitals, and then scale up via ONDC.' He further stated, 'ONDC recently crossed 200 million transactions, with the last 100 million in just six months. From Banarasi weavers to bamboo artisans in Nagaland, sellers are now reaching customers nationwide, without middlemen or digital monopolies. GeM has also crossed 1 lakh crore GMV in 50 days, with 22 lakh sellers, including 1.8 lakh+ women-led MSMEs, who have fulfilled orders worth 46,000 crore.' Praising India's Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), PM Modi highlighted, 'India's DPI from Aadhaar, CoWIN, DigiLocker, and FASTag to PM-WANI and One Nation One Subscription is now studied and adopted globally.' He noted, 'CoWIN enabled the world's largest vaccination drive, issuing 220 crore QR-verifiable certificates. DigiLocker, with 54 crore users, hosts 775 crore+ documents securely and seamlessly. Through our G20 Presidency, India launched the Global DPI Repository and a $25 million Social Impact Fund, helping nations across Africa and South Asia adopt inclusive digital ecosystems.' Calling India a leading startup hub, he said the country now ranks among the top three global startup ecosystems with more than 1.8 lakh startups. He also highlighted India's progress in artificial intelligence, saying that India has 'championed' humanity-first AI. Delhi CM Rekha Gupta requests Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to rename Old Delhi Railway Station
New Delhi [India], July 1 (ANI): Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday wrote to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and requested him to rename the Old Delhi Railway Station as Maharaja Agrasen Railway Station. CM Gupta wrote, 'I am writing to respectfully request your kind consideration for renaming the Old Delhi Railway Station in honour of Maharaja Agrasen, a revered historical figure whose legacy has had a profound impact on the socio-economic development of India, particularly in Delhi.' She mentioned that Maharaja Agrasen is regarded as a symbol of social justice and welfare, and has played a pivotal role in shaping Delhi. 'Maharaja Agrasen is widely regarded as a symbol of social justice, economic foresight, and community welfare. His countless followers and descendants continue to play a pivotal role in shaping Delhi's economic and cultural landscape,' she wrote. Calling it a fitting tribute to the Maharaja Agrasen, she added, 'Renaming the Old Delhi Railway Station as Maharaja Agrasen Railway Station would serve as a fitting tribute to his enduring contributions and would deeply resonate with the sentiments of millions of Delhi residents who hold him in the highest esteem. According to the website of the Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Corporation, the Old Delhi Railway Station in Delhi, that is, the Delhi Junction Railway Station, was built like a fort, with two opposite sides, namely Kashmere Gate and Chandni Chowk. The two localities are linked by an elevated pedestrian bridge called Kodiya Pul. Meanwhile, the Delhi Jal Board, under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, has rolled out a 45-point action plan aimed at enhancing the capital's water infrastructure, upgrading sewerage networks, increasing transparency in tanker services, and rejuvenating the heavily polluted Yamuna River. The comprehensive plan, backed by a budget of Rs 9,000 crore, is targeted for completion by next year, a senior official confirmed. (ANI)
