Surjewala in town to ‘prepare grounds' for CM's resignation: BJP

Hans India8 hours ago
Bengaluru: BJP president B Y Vijayendra on Wednesday claimed that senior Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala arrived in the state to 'prepare grounds' for Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's resignation. The state's administrative machinery has collapsed and governance is in disarray. Infighting among Congress legislators is worsening, and development work has come to a standstill, he alleged.
'Congress leader Randeep Surjewala is in Bengaluru for the past few days. Why is he here? He is not bothered about the downturn of the corrupt Congress government,' Vijayendra told reporters here. The AICC president is gathering MLAs' views and is preparing grounds to remove Siddaramaiah from the CM's post. The fight for the top post has intensified due to which horse trading would happen in the state, he claimed.
Referring to Ramnagar MLA Iqbal Ansari's recent statement that Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar enjoys the support of 100 MLAs and should be made as the CM, the BJP state chief said several senior Congress leaders, including B R Patil and Raju Kage, have also spoken against Siddaramaiah. This shows that the CM has lost the confidence of his own legislators, he said, and urged the Governor to take note of the situation.
He blamed the Congress government for the rising prices of essential commodities and accused it of 'rampant corruption and administrative breakdown'. He further stated that the government's failure has led to a spate of suicides among farmers, officials and contractors. Even Congress MLAs privately acknowledge this dysfunction, he added.
On the Karnataka High Court's decision to hand over the Valmiki Development Corporation scam to the CBI, Vijayendra termed it as a significant victory for the BJP. He alleged that the Rs 187 crore meant for the welfare of Scheduled Tribes was diverted to neighbouring Telangana and misused to purchase properties, jewellery and election expenses. Thousands of fake bank accounts were created for this purpose, he said and referred to the suicide of officer Chandrashekhar, who had reportedly detailed the scam in his death note.
Siddaramaiah was compelled to drop Minister B Nagendra from the Cabinet under pressure from the BJP, but efforts are still being made to reinstate him, he claimed. Nagendra, facing allegations in connection with an illegal money transfer case involving a state-run corporation resigned from the Ministry last June. Vijayendra alleged that the CM himself is involved in the scam and said no money could have moved out of the state without the approval of the Finance Department, a portfolio held by the CM himself.

MP: Nearly 1 lakh meritorious students to get laptops; state to shell out Rs 239cr

Bhopal: In a major push to promote digital learning and reward academic excellence, the Madhya Pradesh government will distribute laptops to 94,234 meritorious students under the 'Pratibhashali Vidyarthi Protsahan Yojana" on Friday, July 4. The initiative, aimed at empowering students who have scored 75 per cent or more in the Class 12 board examinations conducted by the Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (MPBSE), involves a financial outlay of Rs 238.98 crore. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav will preside over the state-level distribution ceremony in Bhopal. He wrote on his X handle: "I'm delighted that on 4th July, we will extend financial incentives of Rs 25,000 each to 94,234 students who have scored 75 percent or above in the Class 12 MP Board examinations.' He further said "this reflects our commitment to nurturing a generation of empowered youth who will contribute to realizing the vision of a developed India under the leadership of our Prime Minister Narendra Modi". Under the scheme, each eligible student will receive Rs 25,000 directly to their bank account to purchase a laptop of their choice. This direct benefit transfer model not only ensures transparency but also allows students the flexibility to select devices that suit their academic needs. The scheme is part of the state's broader commitment to fostering digital literacy and supporting higher education aspirations among youth. The "Pratibhashali Vidyarthi Protsahan Yojana" which has been operational since 2009–10, has so far benefited over 4.3 lakh students, with more than Rs 1,080 crore disbursed in total. Last year alone, 89,710 students received financial assistance under the scheme. The 2025 edition marks a significant scale-up, both in terms of beneficiaries and budget. According to official sources, the scheme covers both regular and self-taught students from government and recognised non-government schools. The eligibility threshold for general category students is 75 per cent, while students from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes qualify with 65 per cent marks. The initiative aligns with the state's vision of building a digitally empowered generation and complements national efforts under the Digital India campaign. With timely disbursement and a transparent selection process, the scheme continues to be a model for educational support programmes across the country.

'Is BJP Running Panchayat In Phulera?': Atishi Slams Rekha Gupta Govt Over Fuel Ban U-Turn

Last Updated: Atishi criticised the BJP in Delhi for reversing its fuel ban on overage vehicles, accusing them of troubling people and colluding with car manufacturers. Atishi, Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, on Thursday questioned the BJP government in Delhi for taking a U-turn over its fuel ban policy for overage vehicles. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader asked if the BJP is running a government or a panchayat in Phulera, apparently referring to a popular web series 'Panchayat." 'Is the BJP running a government or a panchayat in Phulera? One day they issue an order, the next day they say they are writing a letter to withdraw it. Why are they troubling people? The BJP, along with car manufacturers and dealers, is working hand in glove. Because of this alliance, they want to scrap 62 lakh vehicles and buy new ones," she told news agency PTI. Earlier in the day, the Delhi government had written to the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), saying the fuel ban on overage vehicles is not feasible due to technological challenges and complex systems. Addressing a press conference, Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa on Thursday said that there was discontent among people due to this move and the government stood with them. The government has suggested that the ban should be implemented across the National Capital Region (NCR), he added and slammed the previous AAP regime for fixing 'strong norms" for overage vehicles. The Delhi government from July 1, banned fuel for end-of-life vehicles — 10 years or older for diesel vehicles and 15 years or older for petrol vehicles — that are deregistered and not allow to ply on the roads as per the court's orders. The transport department and traffic police are impounding end-of-life vehicles (ELVs) reaching at the petrol pumps for refuelling after the implementation of the ban. Opposition slams EC over special intensive revision of electoral rolls

The Congress, along with its allies such as the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Left parties, on Thursday launched a fresh attack on the Election Commission (EC) over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in poll-bound Bihar, accusing the poll body of conspiring to deprive 20 per cent of the population of their voting rights, and asked it not to act at the behest of the ruling party. Addressing a press conference here, Congress' media and publicity department head Pawan Khera said the EC should act within the limits set by the Constitution and be a "slave" to democracy and voters, not the BJP. On Wednesday, leaders of several INDIA bloc parties met the EC over the SIR issue and raised concerns over its timing, alleging that over 20 million voters in the state could be disenfranchised by this mammoth exercise being conducted just ahead of the assembly elections. The Election Commission on Thursday said it had met representatives of various political parties on Wednesday and heard their concerns, issues, and queries raised by them, and "decoded for them the entire special intensive revision". The EC told the parties that the exercise is being held in a planned, structured, and phased manner to facilitate the inclusion of all eligible citizens. In the first phase, from June 25 to July 3, enumeration forms are being printed and distributed to the approximately 79 million electors in Bihar. In the second phase, the enumeration forms will be filled and are to be submitted before July 25. Electors whose names appear in the electoral roll as of January 1, 2003, are only required to submit the enumeration forms along with an extract of the roll. They don't have to submit any other documents. Those not listed in the 2003 roll will need to submit one of 11 documents for their date of birth/place of birth. In the fourth phase, the draft electoral roll will be published on August 1. The final electoral roll will be published on September 30.
