Today, digital tools have become part of everyday life for 140 crore Indians -- from learning and business to accessing government services.
In 2014, India had about 25 crore internet connections. Now, it has over 97 crore. High-speed internet has even reached remote areas like Galwan and Siachen. The country's 5G rollout is one of the fastest in the world, with nearly 5 lakh base stations set up in just two years.

(DBT), ₹44 lakh crore has been sent directly to people, saving nearly ₹3.5 lakh crore by cutting out middlemen.
He shared how platforms like ONDC and GeM are helping small businesses grow by connecting them with big markets. ONDC recently crossed 200 million transactions, and GeM has reached over ₹1 lakh crore in sales in just 50 days. The

has given more than 2.4 crore property cards and mapped over 6 lakh villages.
India's digital tools, such as Aadhaar, CoWIN, DigiLocker, and FASTag, are now being used and studied by other countries. CoWIN helped in managing the world's largest vaccination drive, issuing 220 crore certificates.
India is now among the top 3 startup ecosystems in the world, with over 1.8 lakh startups. The country is also growing fast in artificial intelligence (AI). Through the India AI Mission, India is offering access to powerful AI tools at very low cost, making it a global hub for digital innovation.
PM Modi said that the next 10 years will be even more transformative. India is moving from using digital tools to leading the world with them. He called on innovators and entrepreneurs to build technology that helps and unites people, and to make India a trusted global partner in the digital world.

New Delhi [India], July 6 (ANI): Congress MP Jairam Ramesh on Sunday accused the central government of misrepresenting the World Bank's Poverty and Equity Brief for India, stating that poverty and inequality remain 'deeply troubling', with 28.1 per cent of Indians living in poverty. He said government supporters are now trying to twist the data to claim that India is 'one of the most equal societies,' a claim he called 'staggeringly out-of-touch.' In a post on X, Congress shared a paragraph from the letter, 'The World Bank had released its Poverty and Equity Brief for India in April 2025. Three months after its release, the Modi Government's drumbeaters and cheerleaders have begun spinning the World Bank's data to make the staggeringly out-of-touch claim that India is among the world's most equal societies. In a statement issued on April 27th, 2025, we had highlighted some key concerns that the World Bank had raised in its Report. These concerns continue to be relevant, and any attempt to engage with the Report must grapple with them seriously.' Ramesh raised alarms over rising inequality in India, revealing that in 2023-24, the top 10 per cent of earners made 13 times more than the bottom 10 per cent. He also warned that flaws in government data may be hiding the true extent of poverty and inequality, which could be worse if newer poverty benchmarks were used. 'Wage disparity in India is high, with the median earnings of the top 10% being 13 times higher than the bottom 10% in 2023-24. Moreover, 'sampling and data limitations suggest that consumption inequality [as measured by Government data] may be underestimated.' More updated data (adoption of purchasing power parity conversion factor from 2021 as compared to that of 2017) would result in a higher rate of extreme poverty,' the letter further reads. Ramesh stated that poverty and inequality in India remain deeply troubling, with a poverty rate of 28.1 per cent. 'Changes in the questionnaire design, survey implementation, and sampling in the Household Consumption Expenditure Survey 2022-23, 'present challenges from making comparisons over time.' It is worth recalling that these changes were many after the Government rejected the previous iteration of the survey (conducted in 2017-18) after it showed falling consumption in rural areas. As a lower-middle-income country, the appropriate rate to measure poverty in India is that of $3.65/day. By this measure, the poverty rate for India in 2022 is significantly higher at 28.1%,' the letter further reads He accused the government of using limited and unreliable data, along with selective benchmarks, to falsely claim that India is among the world's most equal societies. 'The report is therefore rather clear: poverty remains concerningly high, and so does inequality. The good news that the Modi Government is so desperately trying to wrangle out of this report is partly attributable to the limited availability and the uncertain quality of Government data, as well as to the selection of benchmarks to measure poverty. No country that has a poverty rate of 28.1% can make a justifiable claim to being one of the most equal societies in the world,' the letter further reads. In the letter, he also pointed out that millions of Indians are living just above the international poverty line, and warned that any shock, such as job loss or price rise, could push them back into poverty. To protect these vulnerable groups, the party demanded stronger support for welfare schemes like MGNREGA and the National Food Security Act (NFSA), 2013. 'In our statement in April, we had also outlined several takeaways for Indian policymakers from the report. These also continue to remain relevant: The significant variance between differing poverty lines shows that large sections of the population are only marginally above the international extreme poverty line. Social welfare systems such as MGNREGA and the National Food Security Act 2013 cannot be abandoned but must be strengthened to ensure that they protect these segments from negative shocks. The INC's long-standing demand to increase MGNREGA wages, to conduct the decadal Population Census (now scheduled to occur in 2027), and include 10 crore additional persons in the ambit of the NFSA, finds new urgency based on these numbers,' the letter reads. Rio de Janeiro [Brazil], July 6 (ANI): The Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors (FMCBG) of the BRICS nations have voiced 'serious concerns' about the unilateral imposition of tariffs and non-tariff measures, which they deem inconsistent with World Trade Organisation (WTO) rules. In a joint statement following their first meeting under Brazil's chairmanship on Saturday, the group emphasised the resilience of the BRICS nations--Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa--along with new members in the face of these challenges and pledged to safeguard a non-discriminatory, open, fair, inclusive, equitable, and rules-based multilateral trading system with the WTO at its core, underscoring a collective commitment to global economic stability. 'The global economy and financial markets have increasingly been subject to elevated uncertainty and bouts of intense volatility. We voiced our serious concerns with the unilateral imposition of trade- and finance-related actions, including the raising of tariffs and non-tariff measures, which distort trade and are inconsistent with World Trade Organisation (WTO) rules,' the statement read. 'In this testing environment, BRICS members have demonstrated resilience and will continue to cooperate among themselves and with other countries to avoid trade wars that could plunge the global economy into recession or further prolong subdued growth,' it added. The statement comes amidst a challenging global economic context marked by heightened uncertainty and volatility, as the deadline date of the 90-day pause on tariff escalations announced by US President Donald Trump approaches, after this initial announcement of these punitive measures on April 2. The deadline date is set to be on July 9. Under current inflationary conditions, the ministers reaffirmed their dedication to central banks' price stability mandates, confident that responsible monetary policies benefit all stakeholders. 'Collectively, we will continue to pursue constructive and active engagement in international financial institutions and a rules-based multilateral trading system to meet the needs of developing countries and advance intra-BRICS cooperation to further the development and resilience of our economies,' they stated. The statement also addressed the need to de-escalate trade tensions, promote balanced global growth, and foster inclusive economic globalisation. 'We will cooperate to facilitate the de-escalation of trade tensions, including by reinforcing solidarity and promoting strong, sustainable, and more balanced global growth, fostering a universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalisation,' it noted. Additionally, the BRICS nations committed to enhancing coordination between debtors and creditors to address debt issues in Emerging Markets and Developing Economies (EMDEs) from a development perspective, ensuring fair and constructive solutions. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is currently on his four-day visit to Brazil, during which he will participate in the 17th BRICS Summit and undertake a State Visit. During the 17th BRICS Leaders' Summit from July 6 to July 7, PM Modi will exchange views on key global issues, including peace and security, strengthening multilateralism, responsible use of artificial intelligence, climate action, global health, and economic and financial matters. According to the official statement, the Prime Minister is also likely to hold several bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the Summit. (ANI)
