Uttar Pradesh: Yogi Adityanath Govt approves 20% reservation for ex-Agniveers in police force

'Regarding the 20 per cent reservation to Ex-Agniveers in Uttar Pradesh police force... You are well aware that the Government of India had introduced a very ambitious scheme, Agneepath, under which the age limit for employing Agniveers and to strengthen them in every way was kept between 17.5 to 21.5 years for 4 years, and after that they were sent off after giving incentives,' Uttar Pradesh Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna said.
"Today, it has been decided to give 20 per cent horizontal reservation to them...This is a big decision in itself. A provision for 3 years relaxation has also been made for them," he said.
The reservation will be in direct recruitment in the state polic force including the Pradeshik Constabulary (PAC), Mounted Police and Fire Services. The meeting was held in Lucknow under the chairmanship of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Meaningful post-servive employement
Khanna, the UP Finance Minister, said the decision was aimed at ensuring meaningful post-servive employement for the Agniveers who complete their four-year tenure under the Agnipath scheme.
'The reservation will be applicable across all categories – General, SC, ST and OBC – of Agniveers,' he said.
The first recruitment batch under this policy is expected to begin in 2026 – the year when first batch of Agniveers will retire. Many other states, like Haryana and Odisha, have also annouced reservation schemes for ex-Agniveers.

The Agnipath scheme was launched by the Union government in 2022 to serve in defence services – Army, Air Force and Navu – as Agniveers for four years.

Bed, Breakfast and Homestay Policy 2025
The Yogi Adityanath cabinet also approved the Uttar Pradesh Bed and Breakfast (B and B) and Homestay Policy 2025 to improve services and provide better options for stay to the pilgrims and tourists in Uttar Pradesh
This is a big decision in itself. A provision for 3 years relaxation has also been made for them.
Khanna said UP Homestay and B and B Policy provides for housing facilities in up to six rooms (12 beds). Khanna said a committee headed by district magistrate and comprising district police chief (or representative) and others would grant permission to run the homestay services.

VHP deploys activists to rein in miscreants tarnishing Kanwar yatra image
Lucknow: Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has deployed Bajrang Dal activists across Kanwar routes in UP to identify and help police rein in "miscreants" indulging in hooliganism and thus tarnishing the image of the religious yatra. The activists assigned with the task are either carrying Kanwar themselves or are stationed at various camps --- bhandaras, health camps, sewa kendra, and 'Shayan' kendra (night shelters) --- along the routes. "They have been asked to spot the miscreants and help police in tracking them down," VHP national spokesperson Vind Bansal told TOI on Monday. He said that the workers have been asked to remain disciplined in the process. The development comes close on the heels of CM Yogi Adityanath stepping up monitoring of the Kanwar Yatra in a bid to hunt down miscreants posing as Kanwariyas allegedly to incite violence. Yogi issued clear instructions to paste posters of miscreants in public once the yatra is over. The state govt is also keeping a close watch on the yatra with the help of CCTV cameras. VHP's overdrive regarding the Kanwar Yatra follows its recent push for keeping a check on miscreants posing as seers. This recently prompted the Uttarakhand govt to launch 'Operation Kalnemi', under which more than 300 'fake' people pretending to be seers were arrested by police across six districts of the Kumaon division.

Govt launches portal for ‘Udyami Mitras'
Lucknow: UP govt launched the Human Resource Management System (HRMS) portal for 'Udyami Mitras' on Monday. It will enhance investor facilitation and internal efficiency. The cloud-based HRMS portal has been integrated with the state's Nivesh Sarathi platform and designed to digitise and streamline key administrative functions for Udyami Mitras including attendance, leave, payroll, Form-16 generation, and other HR operations. It provides real-time access to employee records, promotes transparency, and reinforces administrative oversight across district and state levels. By transitioning from manual to system-based workflows, the portal enables end-to-end automation of HR processes. UP industrial development minister Nand Gopal Gupta 'Nandi', who launched the portal, said it will strengthen the institutional framework for investor support in UP. "Udyami Mitras play a critical role in translating UP's investor-friendly policies into on-ground impact. With the launch of this system, we are further empowering them with digital tools to function more effectively," he said. Under the Mukhyamantri Udyami Mitra Yojana launched in 2023, over 110 trained Udyami Mitras have been deployed across districts and industrial authorities. They act as facilitators between investors and govt, supporting tasks such as land identification, MoU tracking, investment proposal verification, industrial interactions, and resolution of bottlenecks through platforms like Nivesh Mitra, Nivesh Sarathi, and OIMS.

AAP raises UP schools' merger issue in RS
Lucknow: Escalating its protest against the UP govt's decision to merge schools with low attendance, thereby closing around 30,000-odd primary schools, AAP MP Sanjay Singh raised the issue under Rule 267 in the Rajya Sabha on Monday. The party has also decided to organise a protest against the order in Lucknow on Aug 2, where it hopes to gather parents of affected children and other citizens who oppose the order to close down schools. Singh, who is spearheading the protests in UP, said that AAP would take this matter to the Supreme Court if needed. "This order is depriving children of the right to free and compulsory education. Govt is hiding its failures through such orders. Currently, 1.93 lakh posts of teachers are vacant in primary schools and thousands more in secondary and higher secondary schools," he said. The protest has become AAP's means of connecting with rural UP ahead of panchayat polls next year.
