Abhishek also revealed that his Nani is the real cook in the family and not his mom, Jaya Bachchan.
Abhishek Bachchan is currently gearing up for the release of his much-anticipated film, Kaalidhar Laapata. Premiering on ZEE5 on July 4, the trailer of the gripping thriller has already created a stir online, building anticipation for its digital release. To keep the buzz soaring, the lead actor is leaving no stone unturned to promote the film. Now, Abhishek sat for an interview with an entertainment media portal where he opened up about his most cherished experiences and greatest learning while shooting for the film.
In a candid interview with Zoom, Abhishek offered a personal insight from the shoot, which took place extensively in Bhopal, his maternal hometown.
'We shot extensively in and around Bhopal, which is my nanhiyal (maternal home). And I think the greatest learning for me during the making of this film was that you will never, ever, ever put on weight when your grandmother feeds you with love," Abhishek said with a smile.
He fondly recalled returning to his grandmother's home every evening after wrap-up to eat home-cooked Kosha Mangsho. 'My Nani, by the grace of God, is 95 and still with us. She'd have Kosha Mangsho ready every night. It was all set, made with love, fed with love—and you'll never put on weight when it's like that."
Abhishek also revealed that his Nani is the real cook in the family, joking, 'My mom is not a cook. So whenever I'm in Bhopal, it's a lot of fun—you get spoiled. So yes, my biggest learning is: when your Nani feeds you with love, you'll never put on weight."
Beyond the film, the Guru actor also spoke about life in his star-studded joint family, which includes his wife Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, father Amitabh Bachchan, mother Jaya Bachchan, and daughter Aaradhya. 'It's funny," he said, adding, 'We're all actors. We love hanging out together, and then suddenly everyone just goes back to their own spaces. That comes naturally because for actors it is important to spend time with yourself and get to know yourself. Self-discovery is something that we rarely do. It's essential, but I would never want to be a loner."
Directed by Madhumita, Kaalidhar Laapata also stars Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub and promises an intense, emotional narrative packed with suspense.
Looking ahead, Abhishek will next be seen in the action-thriller King. Set for release in 2026, the film has already generated significant buzz thanks to its star-studded cast. The film will be headlined by Shah Rukh Khan as a powerful assassin entrenched in the criminal underworld. Abhishek joins Suhana Khan and Abhay Verma, while reports suggest that Deepika Padukone, Arshad Warsi, Rani Mukerji and Anil Kapoor have also been roped in for pivotal roles.

Abhishek Bachchan unpacks the emotional lightness of his character in Kaalidhar Laapata — and here's why it works

In an age of fast ambition and fleeting attention, Kaalidhar Laapata gently asks us to slow down, reflect, and consider: What truly makes life worth living? read more Abhishek Bachchan gears up for a deeply moving new venture with Kaalidhar Laapata — a soul-stirring slice of life road drama directed by Madhumita, premiering on ZEE5 on July 4, 2025. Set against the mystical backdrop of the Maha Kumbh Mela, the film follows Kaalidhar, a middle-aged man grappling with memory loss and abandonment, who disappears willingly after overhearing his family's plan to leave him behind. On this unexpected detour, he meets Ballu — a spirited, street-smart eight-year-old orphan whose curiosity and charm rekindle Kaalidhar's long-lost zest for life. What follows is a heartwarming journey to fulfil Kaalidhar's forgotten wishlist, one moment at a time. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD When asked about his first reaction to the story, Abhishek shared 'I think it tackles some very important issues, but in a light-hearted way — just the kind of storytelling I enjoy. The moment we try to present a story with too much seriousness or try to 'sell' a message, it risks becoming preachy or boring. People tend to tune out. I've noticed that when a story is told in a casual, fun manner, the impact is stronger. Take something like Charlie Chaplin — it was comedy but look at how much it taught us about humanity. That's the kind of storytelling I've always been drawn to. Of course, the emotional depth and gravity of the story shouldn't be compromised — and that balance is what Madhumita has handled beautifully with this film'. In an age of fast ambition and fleeting attention, Kaalidhar Laapata gently asks us to slow down, reflect, and consider: What truly makes life worth living? Abhishek Bachchan calls household with Aishwarya Rai, Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan ‘funny'; says, ‘Would never want to be a loner'

Bollywood actors and A-list couple Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan largely keep their personal life out of the limelight. However, Abhishek recently shared insights into the dynamics of the Bachchan household, where multiple actors, including his parents Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, and wife Aishwarya Rai, live together under one roof. Speaking to Zoom about his process as an actor, Abhishek revealed that unlike many actors who prefer to isolate themselves to get into character, he works differently. He said, 'I have never felt lost or the need to get away from everything. I am a people person.' The actor admitted that while solitude is essential, he doesn't enjoy being alone for long periods. 'I have my moments when I need my solitude. It is very important and essential for an actor. But not for a longer time. I need someone to talk to,' he said. Discussing what it's like living in a house full of actors, Abhishek Bachchan described the experience as amusing and unique. He said, 'It's funny. My household is very funny, and we are all actors. We all like to hang out together, and then suddenly everyone just goes back to their own personal spaces.' He added, 'That comes naturally because for actors it is important to spend time with yourself and get to know yourself. Self-discovery is something that we rarely do. It's essential, but I would never want to be a loner.' Abhishek Bachchan is currently busy promoting his upcoming film Kaalidhar Laapata, which is set to premiere on ZEE5 on July 4. He has lately been seen playing father figure roles in films like Be Happy and I Want to Talk. Speaking about this phase in his career and his recurring portrayal of paternal characters, he told The Hollywood Reporter India, 'I don't think I am actively seeking such roles but I have noticed the common thread and I attribute it to the most beautiful woman in the world, my daughter. Artists go through phases in life and when I started with Breathe, then Ludo, Bob, Be Happy, I Wanna Talk, Kaalidhar Laapata – I understood that paternal emotion in those because I was also witnessing and experiencing that in my real life. I don't know if Aaradhya wasn't around whether I'd still be experiencing those emotions or feel them as acutely. They also happened because that relationship spoke to me because I used to experience that with her.'
