Centre approves MIS to bail out Totapuri mango farmers of AP
The Centre's approval, communicated via a letter dated July 20, 2025, to the Special Secretary of the Andhra Pradesh Agriculture Department, promises much-needed support to growers grappling with plummeting market prices.
Under this initiative, 1.62 lakh metric tonnes of Totapuri mangoes will be procured at a support price of Rs 1,493.73 per quintal, with the financial burden shared equally between the Centre and the State, offering a lifeline to distressed farmers.
Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani took to X to express deep gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Chouhan for endorsing a Price Deficiency Payment (PDP) scheme within the MIS framework for the 2025-26 season.
The scheme, detailed in the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare's documentation, covers 1.62 lakh metric tonnes, and establishes a Minimum Intervention Price (MIP) of Rs 1,493.73 per quintal, with a maximum support of Rs 372.68.
The cost-sharing model, split 50:50 between the Centre and the State, includes direct benefit transfer (DBT) to farmers to mitigate price falls.

Maharashtra govt accuses PMC of polluting Ujjani dam
Pressing to clear Rs 722 crore dues for additional use of water, the Maharashtra government on Monday accused the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) of polluting the Ujjani dam downstream of Mutha river by releasing untreated sewage water in the river. The state water resource department minister Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil had convened a meeting to discuss the issues of his department with the PMC. This was attended by state minister Madhuri Misal and other city legislators including Hemant Rasane, Siddarth Shirole, Sunil Kamble, Bhimrao Tapkir and Bapu Pathare. The state minister pointed out that the state government had approved 14 TMC water for Pune city to meet the demand of 80 lakh population, but the civic body was using 22 TMC water in a year. 'The consumption of water by Pune city is far above the set per capita use. This is leading to less water availability for irrigation purposes and 40,000 hectares of agricultural land in the rural part of Pune district is getting affected due to less water for irrigation,' said Vikhe Patil. He said the PMC should recycle 80 percent of water it is consuming every year and make it available for irrigation and industries but it was only recycling 30 percent of the total consumption. 'The PMC has also admitted to leakage of water so it should reduce that. It should also recycle the water which will help it in reducing additional water consumption of 8 TMC,' minister said. 'Moreover, the PMC by releasing untreated sewage water in Mutha river is polluting the Ujjani dam downstream of the river. So, the pending dues of Rs 722 crore with PMC includes charges for additional use of water and penalty for polluting the river,' he alleged, adding that the urbanisation around Pune city is also polluting the dam water for which the state government is planning project to set up Sewage Treatment Plants for rural part villages alongside the river. Pune city's water demands are increasing and the civic body is supplying water through 2000 tankers to the recently merged 32 villages in PMC limits, he said. The PMC has different opinions on the issues so it has been decided to constitute a task force with top officials of PMC and the state water resource department to carry out detailed study and resolve the differences. The study of leakages, steps for recycling more water, fixing the amount of pending dues, additional use of water will be discussed by the task force, Vikhe-Patil said adding that the encroachment of land by the state water resource department will also be studied and the land would be cleared to use for another purpose. The district collector will take action against illegal structures alongside the Mutha river that are polluting the water body and the water resource department would take up desilting of dams, he also said that the state government would seek 10 TMC water from Mulshi dam to meet the increasing water demand of other areas witnessing rapid urbanisation. The project for saving water through leakage, evaporation and theft from the canal has been taken up, and the environmental clearance for it will be obtained soon, Vikhe-Patil said, adding that the land that will be free after a tunnel canal is constructed. BJP legislator Hemant Rasane said that there is a dispute between PMC and the state water resource department on the amount of water used by the civic body. 'It has been going on for a long time so we demanded a task force to study and resolve it. The PMC will soon set up sufficient capacity sewage treatment plants to only release treated water in Mutha river. The measure is important as the government aims to enrol 3400 MSEs under the scheme by encourages the adoption of circular economy technology among MSEs by subsidising a part of the technology acquisition enterprises from eleven sectors such as plastic, rubber, and electronic waste, are eligible to apply for a subsidy under the scheme. They need to apply to banks or participating financial institutions (PFIs) to claim a subsidy. Under the scheme, the maximum project cost admissible is Rs 50 lakh, with a 25% subsidy on the cost of plant and machinery only."As part of the technology portal, the ministry has identified 116 technologies eligible for subsidies under SPICE," said the detailed listing of technologies was important as earlier banks would reject applications due to lack of proper information on these.

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi seeks answers on Pahalgam intel lapse, abrupt end to operations
New Delhi: Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on Monday launched a sharp attack on the government in Lok Sabha over the Pahalgam terror strike, questioning how the terrorists reached Baisaran valley on April 22 and why they remained at large even 100 days later. Opening the Opposition's debate on Operation Sindoor, Gogoi demanded answers on several issues - including US President Donald Trump's repeated claims of brokering an India-Pakistan ceasefire, and Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan's admission that India suffered air losses. He also criticised the government's decision to halt the operation after Pakistan's climbdown, asking why India didn't reclaim territory under Pakistani occupation. "The entire country, including the Opposition, stood behind PM Modi. Then suddenly, on May 10, there was a ceasefire. Why? If Pakistan was ready to surrender, why did we stop? Who did we surrender to? Donald Trump has said 26 times that he forced both countries to announce a ceasefire," Gogoi slammed the government's failure to track down the terrorists responsible for the Pahalgam attack. "It's been 100 days, but the five terrorists are still free. You have drones, Pegasus, satellites, CRPF, BSF, CISF, and even the Defence Minister visited - but you still couldn't catch them. It took an hour for an ambulance to reach Baisaran. The Army came on foot." Gogoi said. Holding Union home minister Amit Shah accountable, Gogoi said the Centre could not hide behind Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha. "Who takes responsibility? The LG? No - it's the Union Home Minister who must be accountable. And the government blaming tour operators for taking people to Baisaran is cowardly," he said. Gogoi also criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not visiting the site after returning from Saudi Arabia. "Instead of going to Pahalgam, the PM went to Bihar and delivered an election speech. It was Rahul Gandhi who visited the victims," he added.
