NATIONAL TEAM
The Fennecs sit on top of their FIFA World Cup qualifying Group G and with games to come next month against the next two teams in the standings – Botswana and Mozambique – they will be looking to consolidate their position and move a step closer to playing at the 2026 finals in North America. Algeria have been to four previous World Cup finals and in December will participate in their 21st TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations finals, where they have drawn as top seeds in Group F along with Burkina Faso, Equatorial Guinea and Sudan. Algeria qualified for the finals in emphatic fashion with an unbeaten run through their six matches in Group E, finishing eight points above second placed Equatorial Guinea. Algeria are also competing at July's TotalEnergies CAF Women's Africa Cup of Nations finals in Morocco, where they are drawn alongside Botswana, Nigeria and Tunisia in Group B.

Next week's draws for the both the two continental club competitions will see intense Algerian interest as Mouloudia Club d'Alger (MC Alger) await their fate in the knockout stage of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League, while both CS Constantine and USM Alger are through to the last eight of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup. Mo MC Alger, who were African champions in 1976, finished runners-up behind Sudan's Al Hilal in their Champions League group while CS Constantine were second to Simba of Tanzania in their Confederation Cup group. But USMA topped their group as they chase a second Confederation Cup title in three years. They were unbeaten in their six matches in the group campaign. Algeria hosted the CAF Women's Champions League UNAF Qualifiers last August but CF Akbou missed out on qualification for the finals tournament held in Morocco.
LEADERSHIP
Walid Sadi was elected Algerian Football Federation President in September 2023. Sadi is a former council member at Entente Setif and had two terms on the board of the Algerian federation, serving as national team director.
HISTORY
Algeria's rich football history has seen Cup of Nations success and World Cup qualification, as well as success for their clubs in continental club competition. The country's independence struggle from France also has a rich footballing contribution with Rachid Mekloufi and Mustapha Zitouni both sacrificing the opportunity to play at the 1958 World Cup to instead leave France and compete for the football team of Algeria's National Liberation Front (FLN), who travelled the world highlighting the struggle against colonialism.

Rana Atef On Sunday, Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca criticized the choice of the United States as host of the Club World Cup. "But something happens, six, seven games suspended, probably the one[s] that they decide, they need a reason, because it's not normal to suspend a game. In a World Cup, how many games are suspended? Zero, probably. In Europe, how many games? Zero. "We are here, two weeks, they're already suspended six, seven games. There is some problem for me personally. "But I'm talking as a manager. Because when you are two hours inside, you try to keep them in the game, but for two hours, they are speaking with the family outside for safety reasons. They are eating something, they are playing, they are laughing. How can you keep them two hours inside, focused? It's a joke. "That's why I said it. Then we are happy. We are happy to be here. We are happy to be in this competition. Inter Miami can dream of shocking PSG: Mascherano
With Argentine great Lionel Messi leading the charge, Miami surprised in the group stage as they progressed but facing newly-crowned Champions League winners PSG in Atlanta is a "huge challenge" in the coach's eyes. We will fight, that's what it's about. I think the beautiful thing about the game tomorrow is that we have earned the right to play it." The coach said he was glad 38-year-old playmaker Messi played for Miami now, rather than PSG. "Everything around Leo generates a lot of interest, we Argentines know that after the World Cup (win in 2022) and all of that," said Mascherano. "The most important thing is that Leo is well and that Leo plays for us. I think that helps keep us calmer than anything. And after that, it's a game of football." Mascherano was also looking forward to meeting PSG boss Luis Enrique, who coached him, as well as Miami players Messi, Sergio Busquets, Luis Suarez and Jordi Alba at Barcelona, all of them winning the treble together in 2015. "Luis is one of the best coaches I've had in my career, I have a good personal relationship with him," said Mascherano. "He was one of those who convinced me to stay at Barca back in that era... he's a great coach who has shown it with Barcelona, now in Paris, and also in the Spanish national team... "It's also good to test yourself against this type of coach, this type of team, it's a challenge." Inter Miami earned a surprise win against Portuguese side Porto on their way to qualifying second from Group A behind Palmeiras. Federico Redondo, son of former Real Madrid midfielder Fernando Redondo, accepted his team will have to defend well to stand any chance of securing a result against the French champions. "The reality is they are the best team in the world, and when you have a team of that level, they dominate you and oblige you to defend more," said the 22-year-old Argentine. Redondo said his father had not given him any special advice for the clash against Champions League winners PSG. "(He said) what he always does, that I should enjoy it, and that we keep doing what we've been doing, that we've had three great games," added Redondo.
