Congress has no moral authority to speak on freedom of speech after declaring emergency in the country: Union Minister
Addressing a press conference here at the BJP office, the Union Minister said the declaration of Emergency 50 years ago by the then Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, would remain as the 'darkest day' in the country.
'People who lived during the days of Emergency in the country still remember the harassment and difficulties they faced at the hands of the Congress. People were illegally detained and put behind bars. The Congress has no right to speak about freedom of speech and democracy,' he said.
The Emergency was declared by the Congress to hold on to power, the Minister said adding that the grand-old party would not hesitate to resort to such undemocratic steps, if they came back to power. 'The party is still in the same mindset and will do anything for power and to protect the interests of the dynasty. So, people should keep Congress out of power,' he said.
The BJP has decided to observe 'Samvidhan Hatya Diwas' to remind people of the dark days of Emergency, BJP president and Member of Parliament V. Selvganabathy said. Home Minister A. Namassivayam, Minister for Adi Dravidar Welfare A. K. Sai J. Saravanan Kumar were present.

The occasion was a massive gathering in Mumbai to celebrate the state government's decision to withdraw the controversial three-language policy in primary schools. As Raj arrived at the NSCI Dome in Worli, Uddhav walked up to him and extended his hand. What followed was a hug that drew cheers from the crowd. The two then raised their fists in a show of unity. In 2012, Congress leader Digvijaya Singh claimed that the ancestors of Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray had migrated from Bihar to Maharashtra. Singh based his statement on Mazhi Jeevangatha (An Autobiography), a book by Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray's father, Keshav Sitaram Thackeray, also known as Prabodhankar Thackeray. Uddhav had reacted strongly to the remark. 'That man (Digvijaya Singh) is mad," he told reporters when asked about the issue. Singh had referred to Uddhav acknowledged that while his grandfather's book did mention the Thakre community's origins in Bihar, it did not refer specifically to their family. 'What he (Prabodhankar Thackeray) has written does not refer to my family, but to the entire Thakre community which lives in Bihar," Uddhav clarified. The Bihar Link Explained Keshav's writings have been frequently quoted by many authors writing about the family. In his book Gramnyancha Sadyanta Itihas Arhat Nokarshahiche Bande (A History of Village Disputes or Rebellion of the Bureaucracy), he wrote that the Chandraseniya Kayastha Prabhu (CKP) community, to which the Thackerays belong, migrated from ancient Magadha, in present-day Bihar, during the reign of Mahapadma Nanda, the last ruler of the Nanda dynasty, in the 3rd or 4th century BC. According to him, the migration was triggered by the practice of usury imposed by Nanda on his subjects. The community eventually left Magadha and 'earned its living as warriors and scribes." This reference was also cited in The Cousins Thackeray: Uddhav, Raj and the Shadow of their Senas by journalist Dhaval Kulkarni. From Thakre To Thackeray In his autobiography Mazhi Jeevangatha, Keshav gave further insights into the family's background. He mentioned that the original family name was 'Thakre." One of their ancestors is also said to have served as a kiladar (fort custodian) at Dhodap Fort during the time of the Maratha Empire. His great-grandfather, Krishnaji Madhav, known as Appasaheb, lived in Pali, in the present-day Raigad district. His grandfather, Sitaram, later moved to Panvel and adopted the surname 'Panvelkar." But when Sitaram admitted Keshav to school, he switched to the original family name and used 'Thakre." It was Keshav who later changed the spelling to the more anglicised 'Thackeray" after reportedly inspired by the British author William Makepeace Thackeray. That spelling has continued with the family ever since. What Led To Uddhav And Raj Thackeray Split? Uddhav and Raj Thackeray are first cousins twice over. Their fathers, Bal Thackeray and Shrikant Thackeray, were brothers and their mothers, Meenatai and Kundatai, were sisters. In the early years, Raj was often seen alongside Bal Thackeray at public events and party functions while Uddhav stayed mostly in the background, handling responsibilities quietly. But as Bal Thackeray's health started getting worse, the differences between the two cousins began to show. At a Shiv Sena gathering in Mahabaleshwar in 2003, Uddhav was appointed the working president of the party. Many saw this as Bal Thackeray's signal that Uddhav would be his political heir. Raj, who had long been considered the natural successor, felt pushed aside. His supporters also alleged that they were being ignored when it came to organisational roles and candidate selections. By the end of 2005, the gap between them had grown. On November 27, Raj announced his resignation from the Shiv Sena. In a speech, he said, 'All I had asked for was respect. All I got was insult and humiliation." BJD demands judicial probe into Rath Yatra ‘mess', stampede deaths
BHUBANESWAR: The BJD on Friday demanded a judicial probe, monitored by a sitting judge of the Orissa High Court, into the mismanagement of Rath Yatra which led to the stampede near Gundicha temple and death of three devotees on June 29. In a memorandum submitted to Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, a delegation of senior party leaders said the administrative inquiry ordered by development commissioner Anu Garg was grossly inadequate and not commensurate with the seriousness of the tragedy. They alleged that the Rath Yatra this year was marked by gross mismanagement in conduct of rituals as a result of which Nandighosha, the chariot of Lord Jagannath, could not be pulled till 7.45 pm. The BJD leaders also demanded constitution of the managing committee of Shree Jagannath temple without further delay. 'The temple has been functioning without the statutory managing committee (MC) for the past eight months, disrupting key administrative and policy decisions. As mandated under the Shree Jagannath Temple Act, 1954, the MC is crucial for approving matters related to rituals, finance and temple management. Its absence has led to the mess and chaos,' they said. They also brought to the Governor's notice the severe traffic and crowd mismanagement during Rath Yatra and alleged that distribution of over 10,000 cordon passes by the ruling BJP to its supporters was the major cause behind the disruption. They urged the Governor to personally intervene and ensure that the remaining rituals of Rath Yatra are conducted smoothly.

Release job notifications, demand unemployed youth in Telangana
HYDERABAD: Demanding the release of all pending job notifications and payment of unemployment allowance , members of the Telangana Nirudyoga JAC on Friday tried to gherao the Secretariat. Backed by various student organisations, the unemployed youth warned that they would organise a massive dharna if the state govt failed to release at least a few notifications before the panchayat elections. "It is because of unemployed youth that the Congress govt has come to power. Now, they are least bothered to fulfil the promises made to the unemployed youth. The govt is completely neglecting us by delaying job opportunities. If they don't release at least a couple of notifications before the panchayat election dates are announced, the youth will teach them a lesson in the polls," said Umesh Madipeddi from the JAC, adding that a curfew-like situation prevailed at RTC Crossroads and near the Secretariat to foil ' Chalo Secretariat ' programme. They alleged that tens of unemployed youth and student leaders were picked up by police on Thursday night to prevent them from reaching the Secretariat. "The govt should implement the job calendar and issue notifications for jobs, fill all vacant positions in govt departments. It should focus on issuing job notifications with the same attention it shows in making arrests," said Anaganti Venkatesh, state secretary, DYFI. He claimed that over 200 people were picked up by the police. Meanwhile, the police said that though a large number of people tried to reach the Secretariat, only 10 of them were successful, as others were picked up from different locations to prevent them from participating in the 'Chalo Secretariat' programme. "The ten people, who reached the Secretariat, were also picked up," police added.
