Raichur: Intense downpour on Wednesday in Raichur district created considerable difficulties for the residents.
The heavy rainfall caused a makeshift bridge to collapse, which cut off access to five villages.
In a different incident, a tree fell and resulted in the death of a couple, while their three-year-old child survived.
The bridge project in Pattepur village, initiated by Rural MLA Basavanagouda Daddal, remained incomplete due to pending payments to the contractor. The temporary bridge, constructed as an interim solution, was destroyed by the severe downpour.
The destruction has disrupted connectivity to Pattepur, Jagir Venkatapur, Raghunathahalli, Sultanpur, and Aralappanahuda villages. This has severely affected farmers, labourers, and students who regularly travel to Raichur for education.
On the outskirts of Mudgal town in Lingasugur taluk, a couple, Ramesh Guddaappa, 25, and his wife Anusuya, 22, tragically lost their lives when a tree, uprooted by strong winds, fell on them while they sought refuge from the rain.

In response to the situation caused by the rain, deputy commissioner Nitish K, who is also the chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, instructed district-level officials to implement precautionary measures in areas affected by landslides and floods.
Considering the India meteorological department's prediction of above-normal rainfall during the current monsoon, the DC issued directives to tahsildars, zilla panchayat, police department, local bodies, assistant commissioner, and other district and taluk level officials through an official circular.
The DC emphasised the importance of swift communication to flood-prone villages and public awareness campaigns via microphones, advising residents against visiting riverbanks or leaving livestock there.
"Control rooms should be opened in the district and taluk offices, and staff should be assigned to work 24 hours a day. Information should be given to the public about this, and various committees should be formed at the district and taluk levels to deal with the flood situation, and nodal officers should be assigned," he instructed.
DC Nitish also mandated that taluk-level officers and staff on rain-related duties must obtain permission from the assistant commissioner for leave. He warned of consequences under the District Disaster Management Act 2005 for any negligence in duty.

Tadej Pogačar shows unrivaled audacity to win his fourth Tour de France title in style
PARIS (AP) — The roads were dangerously slippery after heavy rain. A fourth Tour de France title was all but won anyway, so finishing safely in the pack would do fine for Tadej Pogačar. Especially considering Sunday's final stage had already been neutralized for safety reasons and he just had to complete the race. HT Image Surely there was no need to launch a seemingly pointless attack and risk crashing? But holding back or being cautious rarely appeals to Pogačar, the 26-year-old cycling star from Slovenia. He clinched his fourth Tour title in inimitably daring style on Sunday and further cemented his place among cycling's greats. Even though he really did not need to, and risked falling on oil slick-wet roads, Pogačar simply could not help himself. Against all logical opinion, he tried winning Sunday's 21st and final stage with trademark uphill attacks, only to fall short of the stage win itself. 'In the end I found myself in the front, even though I didn't have the energy,' said Pogačar, who won the Tour last year and in 2020 and 2021. When Pogačar won the hilly fourth stage of this year's race, it was the 100th professional victory of his stellar career, all events combined. Pogačar is also the world road race champion. His dominant victory at the Critérium continued his excellent form the spring classics. After winning stage 4 of the Tour, Pogačar added three more stage wins, including an emphatic uphill time trial. He would love to win the Paris-Roubaix classic and Milan San-Remo. The 259.2-kilometer (161-mile) Roubaix race is called 'The Hell of the North' because of its dangerous cobblestone sections. Pogačar debut appearance at the one-day classic this year saw him seeking to become the first Tour champion to win it since Hinault in 1981. But powerful Dutch rider Mathieu van der Poel won it for the third straight year. Pogačar has also yet to win Milan-San Remo, with Van der Poel also beating him there this year. Hyderabad: Deputy chief minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Sunday said that police and forest officials should not unnecessarily enter ROFR lands where farmers are engaged in agriculture. "The state govt has decided to provide solar pump sets, sprinklers, and drip irrigation equipment free of cost to these farmers under the Congress govt's Indira Soura Giri Jala Vikasam scheme, at an estimated cost of Rs 12,600 crore over three years," Bhatti said. At a review meeting with the officials in Kothagudem Bhadradri district, Bhatti reviewed monsoon preparedness and stated that the water levels in Godavari at Bhadrachalam remain under control. However, he instructed officials concerned to implement all relief measures and ensure the availability of life jackets.
