Dwarka Expressway is set to get traffic lights at 6 junctions

Time of India21-06-2025
Gurgaon: GMDA has decided to install traffic signals at six key junctions along the surface road of Dwarka Expressway to tackle the growing traffic load and improve safety of commuters.
The sector 84-88-36A dividing road, Basai Garhi Road, the intersections of sectors 101-102-102A-104 and 102A-103-104, Shri Ram Chowk, which caters to sectors 103 to 106, and the junction connecting sectors 105-106-109-110 will get traffic signals. These locations were identified in coordination with the traffic police, who said there was a surge in traffic since the launch of the Gurgaon section of the expressway in Feb last year.
The stretch, which connects several sector roads and provides access to high-rises, commercial complexes, and colonies, lacks traffic management infrastructure, a concern repeatedly raised by commuters.
A GMDA official said that the project's design was submitted to NHAI, which maintains the expressway. "The surface road caters to a significant volume of local traffic. The expressway has become a key route for residents and office-goers, especially with increasing occupancy in high-rises along the corridor.
The installation of traffic signals is being done for a safe and smooth traffic flow," the official said, adding that these will be installed under adaptive traffic control system (ATCS) signals project of GMDA.
Moreover, residents have welcomed the decision, calling it a much-needed step toward safe commuting on the expressway.
"The stretch needed signals considering the increasing traffic volume. However, there should have been better planning and coordination between NHAI and local civic agencies when the expressway was being constructed. NHAI constructed rotaries, which are huge in size and leave little space for vehicular flow, causing traffic congestion during peak hours. Now if signals are to be installed, then there will be no need for roundabouts," said Sunil Sareen, joint convenor, Dwarka Expressway Gurugram development association.

Construction of 5.3-km road connecting Dwarka Expressway to Manesar to begin soon

Advt Advt Work on a 5.3-km road stretch connecting Dwarka Expressway to IMT Manesar is set to begin soon, nearly two years after the project got approval. The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority ( GMDA ) awarded the Rs 49.4 crore project to an agency last week, and mobilisation of manpower and machinery has already started, an official said on project, which aims to provide smoother and safer travel for commuters in the new sectors, has a completion deadline of March 2026. Approved in January 2023, it involves upgrading and strengthening an existing six-lane master road that passes through sectors 84-88, 85-89, 86-90 and features of the upgrade include construction of a cycle track, surface drain, greenbelt, footpaths, streetlights, and road safety furniture 'This corridor is critical for reducing congestion and the upgrade will be instrumental in improving traffic flow,' said Arun Dhankar, chief engineer at GMDA. 'Development of this key stretch will greatly enhance the connectivity between Dwarka Expressway and IMT Manesar.'The stretch begins at the Central Peripheral Road (CPR) interchange of Dwarka Expressway and extends to Kankrola village , linking directly to IMT Manesar. It also provides access to NH-48, Sohna Highway and the Southern Peripheral to GMDA, this stretch sees around 28,000 passenger car units daily. With the opening of Dwarka Expressway, traffic on this road has increased significantly. Service roads will be constructed on both sides of the main carriageway to help reduce congestion.'The road will pass through sectors 84-91 and will provide improved access to commuters and residents traversing these sectors,' Dhankar built by the Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran in 2010–2011, the road has deteriorated over time. Commuters often complain about potholes, rough surfaces, and difficult driving conditions, especially during rains.'It's a much-needed upgrade that we have been demanding for a long time,' said Pradeep Kumar, a resident of Sector 86. 'The road has been in bad shape for years and it's really difficult to drive, especially during rains. The addition of service roads and drainage will make a difference,' he added, 'I only hope GMDA will not take forever to complete the project just like the Rampura-Pataudi redevelopment.'The road also passes several residential societies , commercial spaces, shopping complexes and schools. Gurugram University , located in Kankrola village in Sector 87 along this road, was inaugurated last year, further increasing the importance of the route.

Nashik To Akkalkot In Just 4 Hours? The Link On The Chennai-Surat Expressway Gets A Green Signal

Last Updated: Once complete, the travel time between Nashik and Akkalkot will drop from 9 hours to just 4 hours. The long-awaited Nashik–Akkalkot highway is finally set to roll out. After facing several delays, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has now decided to move forward with this key stretch under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model. The final proposal has been submitted to the Centre, and tenders will be floated once it gets the green signal, as per Swarajya. Why Is This Highway So Important? The Nashik–Akkalkot corridor is part of the massive 1,271 km Chennai–Surat Expressway, which links six Indian states – Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu. This route connects major cities like Surat, Nashik, Solapur, and Tirupati, boosting trade and travel. The 374-km Nashik–Akkalkot stretch is considered one of the most vital segments of the expressway. It will have six lanes and will be built in two parts: Earlier, the project was floated under the hybrid annuity model but didn't take off due to technical and financial challenges. This led NHAI to adopt the BOT model instead, allowing private players to take a more active role. Now, with the Public-Private Partnership Appraisal Committee giving its nod, the project is back on track. How Will This Benefit Travellers? Once the road is ready, travel time between Nashik and Akkalkot will drop from nine hours to just four. And when the full expressway is complete, Nashik to Surat could be done in as little as two hours. Additionally, the route will connect to the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway at Navsari, providing better access to the national capital and strengthening transport links between the west and south of India. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
