Over 900 Internal Committees formed under PoSH Act in Krishnagiri; hotels, showrooms yet to comply
Additionally, the department has received nil reports from 1,007 industries and companies with fewer than ten employees, where committee formation is not mandated. However, hotels offering boarding and lodging, along with textile and jewelry showrooms, are yet to form ICs and submit their reports to the District Social Welfare Office (DSWO).
Sources from the Social Welfare Department told TNIE that these committees have been established in private and government educational institutions, government offices, industries, and private clinics. The PoSH Act was enacted to ensure a safe and secure work environment for all women and to provide an effective mechanism for redressing sexual harassment complaints.
The law mandates that organizations with ten or more employees must constitute an IC under Section 4 of the Act to receive and address complaints of sexual harassment in the workplace.
Consequently, 942 committees were formed in the district following various awareness programs and letters sent to multiple departments by the district social welfare department.

The Delhi government has approved a proposal that will now allow women to work night shifts in shops and commercial establishments. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the decision on Tuesday, calling it a step towards making Delhi a 24x7 business hub and improving women's participation in the workforce, news agency PTI reported. Calling it a 'historic decision', CM Gupta said the move is a big step for women's economic empowerment and independence. 'This policy is not just about extending work hours, but it is a statement of our intent to create a safer, more inclusive working environment for women in the national capital,' she said. She said that with this decision, Delhi will now join states like Haryana, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, which already allow women to work during night hours. According to an official statement, companies must first get written consent from female employees before assigning them night shifts. Employers will also need to ensure safety measures such as: -Providing transport for women workers -CCTV surveillance -Female security staff -Proper toilets, restrooms, and lockers The government has made it compulsory for all establishments to set up Internal Complaints Committees as required under the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act. Changes to old law needed The new decision requires amendments to the Delhi Shops and Establishments Act, 1954. As of now, the law does not allow women to work between 9 pm and 7 am in the summer and between 8 pm and 8 am in the winter. Once the changes are cleared by the Lieutenant Governor, women will officially be allowed to work at any time. The statement also said that employers must ensure fair treatment of workers on night duty. This includes: -Payment through electronic transfers -Benefits such as ESI, PF, and bonuses -Weekly offs and overtime pay 'This step will make Delhi a more business-friendly destination while reinforcing our commitment to gender parity at the workplace,' Chief Minister Gupta said.

GMRL moves to acquire plots in sectors 4, 9 for Metro line
The Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) is planning to acquire three properties along the route which are affecting the alignment of the metro network that the corporation is building from Millenium City Centre to Cyber Hub. The three property owners have agreed to give their land to GMRL, officials said on Monday. The land acquisition will be done as per RFCTLARR Act 2013 and the compensation will also be finalised under the same act. (HT Archive) GMRL officials said that the committee which was formed to acquire private land for the project has held multiple meetings with the property owners, and obtained their consent for acquisition of the three properties. The metro corporation has now sought details of the average sale price of similar properties to assess the compensation for these three. One of the houses is located in Sector 9 while the two others are in Sector 4. In the first house, the area impacted by alignment is 83 square metre (sqm) while the second house is affecting 91sqm and the third house is impacting 426sqm of the metro route, as per a communique sent by GMRL to Gurugram's land acquisition officer. 'This committee, under the chairmanship of SDM, held meetings with the affected parties and consent to give their land for the Metro Project from the owners of 3 affected houses has been obtained. The land acquisition will be done as per RFCTLARR Act 2013 and the compensation will also be finalised under the same act,' a letter issued by GMRL on July 24 mentioned. To be sure, the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013 (RFCTLARR Act, 2013) is a law that regulates land acquisition and provides compensation, rehabilitation, and resettlement for those affected by land acquisition. A senior GMRL official said, 'The metro corporation is fast tracking the acquisition of private land and strenuous efforts are being made in this regard. We are also working to ensure that the RRTS station at Cyber City, which will be constructed by NCRTC is finalised at the earliest and for that a high level committee has also been formed. We will also award the tender for civil construction soon,' the official said.

Kerala to roll out SOP, boost staff strength to fast-track land conversion cases
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state government is set to introduce Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to assist district administrative officers in handling land conversion applications, aiming to bring clarity and speed to a process long criticised for delays and confusion. The state revenue department conducted a meeting regarding this matter. According to senior revenue officials, the move will leverage technology, including satellite imagery, to ensure that genuine cases are approved while preventing illegal conversion of wetlands and paddy lands. At present, such decisions rest primarily with revenue divisional officers (RDOs). The new system will also empower deputy collectors (DCs) to take up these cases, raising the number of decision-making officials from 27 to 72. Officials believe this expansion, along with the SOP, will reduce bottlenecks. 'Applicants have often been forced to run from pillar to post due to delays and lack of clarity. With more officers and a clear SOP, we expect faster and fairer decisions,' said a senior official. According to the Kerala Conservation of Paddy Land and Wetland Act of 2008, conversion of wetlands for residential or commercial use, prior to 2008 will not have legal validity. To verify such claims, authorities intend to use satellite imageries in addition to supporting documentation like tax returns, building plans, and home loan documents. Property document writers point to shortcomings in the land data bank established under the 2008 Act to support their claim that the new system is necessary. 'Many entries were made without site visits, relying only on office records. As a result, lands converted decades earlier were still marked as paddy fields. An SOP and more decision-makers can finally resolve these long-pending issues,' said P R Ramakrishnan, a document writer from Kottayam. The impact is expected to be significant for residents like Mariyakutty, a senior citizen, from Kanjirappally, who have struggled for approval to rebuild her family home.
