WWE veteran Randy Orton has revealed a significant positive change in the company's backstage culture, crediting Chief Content Officer Triple H for the new direction. The 14-time world champion shared a specific story that highlights a major shift in the company's priorities under the new leadership.
Speaking on the "What's Your Story?" podcast with Stephanie McMahon, Orton discussed how the company now has a "family first" mentality. This is a change he says would have been unheard of in the past.
Leading By Example In WWE
Orton recalled a recent instance where he learned Triple H was not present at a television taping. When he asked where his boss was, he was told Triple H was attending his daughter Murphy's championship softball game.
For Orton, this small act represented a monumental shift in the company's culture.
"Just knowing that in the past that never would have happened, and knowing that now it's okay," Orton said (H/T WrestlingNews.co). "It's almost like, without even knowing it... he's leading by example."
He explained that this leadership gives him confidence that he could also prioritize a major family event without fear of professional repercussions.
"There's no question in my mind that if I say 'Hunter... I've got this thing, and... it's very important to me and my family and my kids... that I'm there,' there's no question in my mind that they'll say 'Done,'" Orton stated. "Like that is huge. That's everything."

Randy Orton's Perspective
This cultural shift is especially meaningful coming from a star like Orton, who has been with WWE for 25 years.
For decades, the industry was known for its grueling "grind" schedule, where performers often worked through injuries and missed major family milestones. The idea of a top executive, let alone a top talent, missing a TV taping for a family event was often seen as a lack of dedication.
Orton himself has recently gained a new perspective after returning from a career-threatening back injury that required spinal fusion surgery. After more than a year away, he understands the importance of life outside the ring, making Triple H's new "family first" approach all the more significant to veterans who have spent their lives on the road.
The praise is also powerful given the long and often violent history between Randy Orton and Triple H. Triple H originally brought a young Orton into WWE as his protégé in the Evolution faction, but their relationship famously imploded when Orton won his first World Heavyweight Championship.
This led to a years-long, bloody rivalry that was one of the defining feuds of the Ruthless Aggression era. For Orton to now be the one praising Triple H's leadership shows the immense respect that has developed between the two former rivals over their storied careers.

Nikki Garcia returns to WWE following divorce fallout, pushes for Bella Twins reunion

Nikki 'Bella' Garcia is making her long-awaited return to the WWE ring this weekend at Evolution — but for the WWE Hall of Famer, the comeback won't feel complete without her twin sister Brie by her side. 'She better join me. I mean, it's the only way I sometimes feel like I can win is if I have her,' Garcia said during an appearance on 'Live with Kelly and Mark' on Tuesday, July 8, where she promoted Evolution, WWE's first all-women's pay-per-view event since 2018. 'The fans are speaking really loudly — our Bella Army — they really want Brie back,' she added. 'And I really want her back. I feel like this comeback won't be complete until the Bella Twins are together. So, it'll be iconic.' Nikki is returning to the ring for the first time in six years to compete in the 2025 WWE Evolution at State Farm Arena in Atlanta on Sunday, July 13. The winner earns a shot at the women's championship next month at WWE Clash in Paris. 'I think once you're a professional athlete or wrestler, it's just always in you,' Garcia said. 'You always crave it and we're kind of adrenaline junkies — we thrive on that.' While TMZ Sports reported Brie was in talks to return, she has denied being contacted. Her last match was in the 2022 Royal Rumble. Nikki, inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame alongside Brie in 2020, returned earlier this year and is now eyeing another title run. Her return follows a turbulent chapter in her personal life. In December, Garcia opened up on her podcast 'The Nikki & Brie Show,' about her divorce from former 'Dancing With the Stars' pro Artem Chigvintsev, whom she met in 2017 while still engaged to John Cena. Garcia filed for divorce last August, two weeks after Chigvintsev was arrested at their Yountville home in a domestic violence case. Prosecutors declined to file charges, and the couple settled privately in November. 'It's been really tough,' she said at the time. 'You dream of having this family, and you have this incredible love, and it just goes the other way.' 'It's incredible because the first Evolution we had was history-making,' she said. 'So for it to come back six years later is incredible.'

AEW's MJF Praises Unpopular WWE Business Practice

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. AEW star MJF has shared his thoughts on WWE running shows head-to-head against his home promotion. In a recent interview, MJF said that he views the practice not as a petty move, but as a savvy business decision. Speaking with TV Insider, the former AEW World Champion gave credit to WWE's leadership for their competitive tactics. He stated that if he were in their position, he would do the same thing. It's Business, Not Personal Rather than showing frustration, MJF explained that he respects the move from a business perspective. He believes that any company should do what is necessary to "stomp out" its competition. "I think it's a smart business practice," MJF said. "I give jolly old St. Nick [Khan] and Trips [Triple H] a whole lot of credit. At the end of the day, if you can stomp out your competition, you're doing what is necessary. Lord knows I would." He added that while some may view WWE's scheduling as a coincidence, he believes it is a deliberate and calculated business strategy. "They're not doing this by happenstance," he stated. The most famous example is the "Monday Night Wars" from 1995 to 2001, when WWE's Monday Night Raw went head-to-head with WCW's Monday Nitro. The intense competition, which included tactics like giving away taped results and talent jumping between companies, is often seen as the creative and commercial peak of the industry. The two promotions first went head-to-head during the "Wednesday Night War," when AEW Dynamite consistently beat WWE's NXT in the ratings, forcing NXT to move to Tuesday nights in 2021. A Timeline of Competition Since the end of the Wednesday Night War, WWE has continued to schedule programming and events opposite AEW's major shows. In October 2023, a "Supersized" episode of NXT, featuring major stars like John Cena and Cody Rhodes, went directly against Dynamite and won the ratings battle. On multiple occasions, WWE has scheduled premium live events like NXT Battleground on the same weekend as AEW's flagship Double or Nothing pay-per-view. This trend continues this coming weekend. AEW will present its massive All In: Texas stadium show on Saturday, July 12. On that same day, WWE will be airing two premium live events: Saturday Night's Main Event on NBC and The Great American Bash on Peacock. While AEW President Tony Khan has criticized these moves in the past, MJF clearly sees the competition as a sign of respect. More WWE News: For more on WWE, head to Newsweek Sports

WWE Bringing In Two Wrestling Legends For Evolution: Report

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Two legendary former WWE Women's Champions are scheduled to be in Atlanta for this Sunday's Evolution premium live event. According to a new report from WWE Hall of Famer Alundra Blayze and the formidable Jazz are both expected to be present for the show. While their exact roles have not been confirmed, their presence opens the door for surprise appearances. It is highly speculated that they could be entrants in the high-stakes battle royal, where the winner will earn a future world championship match. A Trailblazer And Her Infamous Moment Alundra Blayze was the centerpiece of WWE's women's division in the mid-1990s "New Generation" era. A three-time WWE Women's Champion, she was known for her athletic, hard-hitting style that was ahead of its time. However, she is most famous for one of the most controversial moments of the Monday Night Wars. After leaving WWE for WCW in 1995, she appeared live on an episode of WCW Monday Nitro and infamously dropped the WWE Women's Championship belt into a trash can. This act made her a controversial figure for nearly two decades before she and WWE reconciled. She was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2015, where she brought the story full circle by "pulling" the title back out of the trash. Her legitimate toughness and smash-mouth style set her apart from many of her contemporaries. She was a two-time WWE Women's Champion, with her first reign lasting an impressive 98 days. She engaged in memorable feuds with the top stars of that era, including Trish Stratus and Lita. After leaving WWE, she continued a successful career, most notably having a dominant 948-day reign as the NWA World Women's Champion. The presence of these two legends at Evolution adds another layer of history to the event. They represent two distinct, important eras in the evolution of women's wrestling, and their potential involvement has fans buzzing ahead of this Sunday's show. WWE has stacked the card for this show and will likely add more star power to it. More WWE News: For more on WWE, head to Newsweek Sports
