JKR resolves drain and garbage issues along Jalan Bukit Kemuning
The department conducted a site visit and coordinated with agencies including the Klang Land District Office, Shah Alam City Council (MBSA), and KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) to resolve the issue.
JKR responded to a video shared by Kota Kemuning Assemblyman Preakas Sampunathan on July 8, highlighting the poor condition of drains and garbage accumulation.
The department clarified that maintenance of the FT190 federal road falls under Roadcare (M) Sdn Bhd, the appointed concessionaire.
During the visit, JKR briefed Preakas on ongoing and planned works, including drain maintenance and waste clearance.
The department noted that many access roads along FT190 were built without following specifications, complicating maintenance efforts.
Additionally, JKR allocated RM4.5 million for FT190 maintenance, covering partial reconstruction, safety improvements, and road line repainting.
The department urged road users to follow traffic signs and cooperate in preserving public infrastructure.

BINTULU (July 22): Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) director Dr Cassidy Morris has called on all divisional engineering teams to maintain a strong spirit of teamwork and alignment in their operations. 'Only through unity and coordinated effort can we ensure the continued success and excellence of JKR Sarawak as a whole,' he said during the closing ceremony of the 22nd Divisional Engineers Conference in Bintulu yesterday (July 21). He noted that this was the first conference since JKR Sarawak was officially recognised as the technical agency of the Sarawak government. 'This recognition comes with greater responsibility and expectations,' said Dr Cassidy according to a post on JKR Sarawak official Facebook page. The conference gathered engineers from all divisions to discuss strategic directions, technical improvements, and coordination efforts to advance the state's infrastructure development. A technical session on the Divisional Manual of Instruction (DMOI) was also held to enhance understanding and implementation of technical directives at the divisional level. Earlier, Dr Cassidy chaired an engagement session with Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) implementing officers to gather direct feedback from the ground. JKR Sarawak Deputy Director of Services Meehan Jorai expressed gratitude for the successful organisation of the conference. 'The discussions resulted in 60 resolutions focused on three core areas namely process improvement, human resource needs, and project implementation,' he said. ‘Trees felled in Bukit Kiara park will be replaced'

Its deputy director-general (development) Ahmad Syaharuddin Kamaruddin said the trees were felled to facilitate a new four-storey administrative building at the recreational park. He said that among the 316 trees cut down were rubber trees which were invasive to native species and affected the area's biodiversity. 'We will replant 614 more trees and 3,733 shrubs in replacing the trees that we have felled,' he said during an engagement session at the Segambut branch office of Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) in Changkat Abang Haji Openg. The session was held to brief residents about the building project, earmarked for the Taman Persekutuan Bukit Kiara Kuala Lumpur Phase 1B Administrative Zone. It was attended by representatives from JLN, Public Works Department (JKR), environmental conservation organisation Friends of Bukit Kiara (FoBK) and Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) residents who were angry with the felling of the trees at the park. Ahmad Syaharuddin said the administrative building project was necessary as JLN needed a physical presence to better protect the 188.9ha recreational park. 'Currently, we are based in Putrajaya and managing a park of this size with such impressive biodiversity from there isn't easy,' he said. 'We need to be present here to carry out conservation and security,' he said, adding that the project had complied with both the Social Impact Assessment and Environment Impact Assessment requirements. Residents, particularly those living along Jalan Abang Haji Openg, were upset by the unannounced felling of trees near their homes at the beginning of the month. 'We heard contractors clearing trees from our houses earlier this month, but we could not see anything from our homes,' Kim Liew, 76, told StarMetro. 'By the time we realised it, the trees on the hill slope near our houses had been cut down.' Noting that the trees helped keep the area cool, Liew complained that the residents were really feeling the heat now. Occupying 2.42ha of the park, the building situated at Changkat Abang Haji Openg is intended to establish a Federal Park administration and management centre that plans, executes and manages activities under the Federal Park programme. The building will incorporate a management office, a visitor interpretation centre, a nursery and parking facilities. FoBK president Leon Koay said the group had urged JLN to adopt a conservation-first approach for the development project. 'Our recommendation to the department was to keep as many trees as they could when constructing the building. 'We were also taken aback when we learned about the tree clearing that happened earlier this month,' he said. A JKR representative affirmed that they had adhered to all permit requirements to commence the land clearing. 'The building project is expected to take 130 weeks and is due for completion on July 5, 2027,' he confirmed. Residents also voiced concerns about potential soil erosion in the area during a downpour. Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh, who was also present, said she would call a meeting with DBKL and Jalan Abang Haji Openg Rukun Tetangga to ensure appropriate mitigation measures were implemented.

Liew satisfied with efforts

KOTA KINABALU: Api-Api Assemblywoman Datuk Seri Christina Liew has expressed satisfaction with the progress of road patching work, clogged drain clearance and grass cutting services provided by the relevant authorities, following her latest visit to various parts of her constituency. Most recently, she was on her routine site inspection to identify roads and drains overgrown with grass that needed prompt attention. 'I hope the condition of Jalan Bukit Punai will be improved to ease mobility for residents in the area,' said Liew, adding that Lorong Sena 1 needs resurfacing. Accompanying the Api-Api Assemblywoman were engineers from the Public Works Department (JKR) and Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK). Also present were Kapitan Nancy Chua Li Wah, Kapitan Margaret Chong Moi Hiong, Api-Api Community Development Leader Theresa Chong Mui Lan and Community Development Officer Yoong Yik Tin. Appropriate action has since been taken to cut the grass and clear the drainage along Jalan Menteri, Jalan Kebajikan, Jalan Sang Kancil (1, 2 & 3), and Jalan Tadika Tzu Yu. To prevent flooding, a section of the drain overgrown with vegetation along a stretch of Jalan Sena in the Sunny Garden housing estate was also addressed immediately.
