Gamblers didn't bet on raid as cops end cock fights
KUALA LUMPUR: More than 100 gamblers were caught off-guard as police raided a cock-fighting ring located in a forested area in Melwood Arena, Sungai Buloh.
It is learnt that illegal gambling has been going on there for about eight months.
Based on surveillance and intelligence gathering since October, a team of Bukit Aman CID's Anti-vice, gambling and secret societies division (D7) officers raided the gambling den on Sunday in an operation codenamed 'Ops Dadu Mega'.
Bukit Aman deputy CID director Deputy Comm Datuk Fadil Marsus said the police used drones to monitor the area before the raiding team moved in.
'The raiding team had to use dirt roads to reach the secluded forest area.
'Their guide was information provided by the police's drone unit.
'We managed to detain 124 individuals, consisting of 46 locals and 78 Indonesians,' he said when contacted.
The suspects were betting on cock fighting and the lottery.
'We seized various items including 52 chickens, seven dead chickens, equipment and cash amounting to RM145,855,' he added.
The case is being investigated under various sections, including Section 4A(a) of the Open Gaming House Act 1953 and the Immigration Act.
'We urge the public to relay information, especially on illegal gambling, so that we can take stern action.
'We want to curb the illegal activity,' said DCP Fadil.

SUNGAI PETANI, July 5 (Bernama) -- Police have shot dead another man believed to be involved in a series of armed robberies, just a day after two other suspects were killed in a shootout in Jitra. The 34-year-old suspect was fatally shot during a similar shootout with police at 7.50 pm in Bandar Puteri Jaya, according to acting director of the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Datuk Fadil Marsus. A pistol and several other items were recovered from the suspect, who had more than 30 prior criminal records. Fadil said police believe the suspect was also a key member of a criminal group, comprising over a dozen members, responsible for a string of armed robberies, gangsterism and drug trafficking dating back to 2022, which caused losses estimated at nearly RM6 million. 'Our investigations indicate this suspect was also involved in three recent armed robberies in Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, and Perak,' he added. Fadil emphasised that the police would continue to act aggressively to apprehend individuals involved in violent crimes, especially those involving firearms. The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code.

Two criminals killed in police shoot-out at Jitra expressway
JITRA: Two men suspected of involvement in violent crimes were killed in a shoot-out with police at the North-South Expressway entrance ramp earlier today. The incident occurred at 8.05 am after patrolling officers spotted a suspicious four-wheel-drive vehicle. Kedah police chief Datuk Fisol Salleh stated that the suspects opened fire when ordered to stop, leading to an exchange of gunfire. Both suspects died at the scene. Police recovered two firearms—a revolver and a semi-automatic pistol—along with bullets, a machete, and tools linked to criminal activities. One suspect, aged 41, had over 40 prior criminal records, while the other remains unidentified. Authorities believe they were part of a larger syndicate active since 2020, involved in drug trafficking, armed robberies, and factory break-ins. Forensic teams found three bullet casings at the scene. The bodies were sent to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital for autopsy. The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
