Susan Sarandon ‘terrified but excited' to star on London stage
Sarandon will star opposite acclaimed actor Andrea Riseborough in Pulitzer Prize-winning Tracy Letts' play this autumn.

Susan Sarandon has said she is "terrified but excited" to make her UK theatre debut in the play Mary Page Marlowe at London's Old Vic.
Sarandon will star opposite acclaimed actor Andrea Riseborough in Pulitzer Prize-winning Tracy Letts' play this autumn.
Described as a "vivid, time-jumping mosaic of one woman's life", Sarandon and Riseborough will both play Mary at different ages over 70 years, with further casting to be announced.
Sarandon, who won the best actress Oscar for Atlantic City, has performed on Broadway – but has never trod the boards in the UK before.
Oscar-nominated Riseborough, who has starred in films including The Long Walk To Finchley and To Leslie, is returning to the stage after 15 years.
Sarandon said: 'I'm so honoured to be asked to be in a play during Matthew Warchus' final season at The Old Vic. Terrified but excited."

The production will take place completely in-the-round, with the 200-year-old auditorium transformed to create a new seating configuration that will surround the stage.
Old Vic artistic director Matthew Warchus said: "I'm delighted to be kicking off my final season at this wonderful theatre with this sensational new play from one of America's greatest living writers.
"And what a privilege to be featuring two such superlative actresses, Susan and Andrea, on the Old Vic stage – along with a large cast and creative team abounding with exceptional talent.
"I'm also really excited to be returning The Old Vic auditorium to perhaps my favourite configuration, and look forward to welcoming audiences to an unforgettable year of fully in-the-round, immersive, 360 degree performances."
Riseborough said: "It's an honour to be taking on the role of Mary – amongst others – in Tracy Letts' poignant play, alongside the extraordinary Susan Sarandon.
"I'm so very grateful to be working with Matthew again and thrilled to finally work at The Old Vic, a beautiful space. I look forward to us all bringing life to Matthew's remarkable vision for the play."

Mary Page Marlowe premiered at the Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago in 2016 and opened off Broadway in 2018.
It will run at the Old Vic from September 23 to November 1.
Tickets are now on sale for members and will go on general sale from midday on Friday.

The Odyssey trailer leak reveals first look at Nolan's 'life-changing' movie
The first trailer for Sir Christopher Nolan's eagerly anticipated next film The Odyssey has debuted in cinemas – and promptly been leaked online. With a whole year still to go before its July 2026 release, the film, based on Homer's epic poem, is actually still deep in production. Filming moved to Scotland last week, with star Matt Damon, who is playing the lead role of hero Odysseus, spotted in Moray while the 'mythic action epic' films at Findlater Castle. But as he did with Oscar-winning box office smash Oppenheimer, Nolan has delivered an intriguing teaser trailer to screen in front of his studio Universal's latest summer release, which was Jordan Peele's Nope two years ago. While we won't link to any of the leaked material, fans who have caught it are reacting with predictable glee given Nolan's triumphant reputation as a filmmaker. 'My life has been changed by the Odyssey teaser trailer,' announced Joel on X while @yashsayings added: 'Holy, this gonna be epic.' 'The Odyssey teaser trailer gave me chills. Nolan Nation, we are so back,' enthused Mari as @bastistinson simply declared: 'In Nolan We Trust.' 'Bernthal Oscar incoming,' suggested @theylovekado of one of the cast members who features most prominently in it, with Ethan chiming in: 'Would love that for him tbh haha.' Fan Jay also expressed his love for the film after having seen less than 70 seconds from it by posting a gif showing someone quickly adding a five-star review to Letterboxd. 'Just saw the Odyssey trailer leak…,' he tweeted. The trailer opens with views across an ocean as a voiceover intones: 'Darkness. Zeus's law smashed to pieces. I'm without a king since my master died.' We then see a shadow and glimpse of the famous Trojan horse on the beach as it continues: 'He knew it was an unwinnable war. And then somehow… somehow, he won it.' 'I know nothing of Odysseus, not since Troy,' Jon Bernthal's as-yet unidentified character then says before the trailer cuts to a scene showing him and Tom Holland as Telemachus in a candlelit dining hall. 'I have to find out what happened to my father. When did you last see him?' the younger man asks to Bernthal's character who appears slightly hostile thanks to his growling voice coupled with the quietly eerie and slightly foreboding background music. 'Who has a story about Odysseus? You? You have a story?' Bernthal's character then asks the room before adding: 'Some say he's rich. Some say he's poor. Some say he perished. Some say he's imprisoned.' While he speaks we see glimpses of men in armour holding torches and heading down an alleyway – perhaps sacking Troy – and a man drawing his sword as he leads those following him into a cave. 'What kind of prison could hold a man like that?' Bernthal's character then asks as it cuts to a shot of what appears to be Damon as Odysseus, lying unconscious on the partial wreck of a ship in the sea. The Odyssey is one of two major epic poems attributed to Homer from around the 8th century BC, and follows on from the first – the Iliad, which is concerned with the Trojan War. The Odyssey follows the king of Ithaca, Odysseus, on his 10-year quest to return to his home island after a decade at Troy. Along the way he must contend with the wrath of the gods and perils including being enslaved by a nymph, cannibals, an angry Cyclops, a sea-witch, a treacherous whirlpool and a six-headed monster. Meanwhile at home on Ithaca, his wife Penelope and now-adult son Telemachus (Holland) must contend with a horde of suitors descending on the palace and pressuring her to choose one of them in the place of her presumed-dead husband so they can take the throne Unsurprisingly, Nolan has attracted a star-studded cast but we only know the casting for a few key players so far, including Damon as Odysseus and Holland as Telemachus. Charlize Theron recently revealed that she will be playing the witch-goddess Circe, while Bernthal's appearance in the trailer suggests he could be playing either Nestor or Menelaus, legendary kings in Greek mythology who the youngster visits looking for information as to his father's whereabouts. Given the advancing age of Nestor, Menelaus could be more likely. Lucy Dacus, Barrowland, Glasgow ★★★★ Fragrant indie folk singer/songwriters are more usually greeted with rapt attention, nodding heads and polite applause but Virginia-raised, Los Angeles-based musician Lucy Dacus and her band attracted screams and sing-alongs at this Barrowland show from an audience making it clear how much her songs have meant to them. In recent years, her already healthy solo career has been bolstered by her membership of Grammy-winning indie power trio Boygenius with Phoebe Bridgers and Julien Baker but this set was mainly about her new album, Forever Is a Feeling, with every track represented across a 90-minute set, from the mellow country pop of Best Guess and burnished Americana of Most Wanted Man to the big drums, dynamic drops and harmony vocals of Talk. The fans whooped along to choppy ditty I Don't Wanna Be Funny Anymore and the surging sound of grungey indie rocker First Time, while Dacus blended aggressive sentiments with gentle yearning on Come Out, one of a number of pre-requested songs in the set along with an acoustic campfire rendition of Christine, a luscious Lana Del Rey ballad of queer longing. Dacus admitted to feeling 'weirdly nervous' about her debut in this globally renowned venue and appeared outright starstruck by her special guest, Belle & Sebastian frontman Stuart Murdoch, who comfortably relayed the deft, droll storytelling style of Bullseye.

Van Coke, Kitshoff and Dobbo walk into a bar
It's not every day that a sleepy Klein Karoo town hosts a gathering of musicians, World Cup-winning Springboks, magicians and broadcasters, but that's exactly what's on the cards as the third annual 5 Arts Weekend returns to the Karoo Art Hotel in Barrydale from 18-20 July 2025. This festival is loosely geared around the theme 'The Art of...', with a host of talented South Africans hitting the road to Barrydale in aid of a good cause. The weekend kicks off on Friday night with an intimate concert in the hotel's gallery theater by Francois van Coke for 'The Art of Music'. Rugby takes center stage on Saturday with 'The Art of Rugby – Insight & Analysis', a more informal 'fireside chat' on professional rugby preparation with John Dobson, head coach of the DHL Stormers, and Steven Kitshoff, Springbok stalwart and scrummaging master. Leading the conversation will be CapeTalk host John Maytham. On Saturday evening, guests will also gather to watch the Springboks take on Georgia, with commentary, banter and braai flavor in full supply. Other highlights include 'The Art of Magic', with comedic illusionist Peter G, and 'The Art of Beer', hosted by Kitshoff; co-founder of Bomb Squad beer. Expect tastings, tales, and a celebration of South Africa's craft beer culture. But the weekend is about more than entertainment. It's become an important community upliftment initiative, supporting local rugby clubs The Stryders and Flying Eagles, who celebrate their 75th anniversary this year. With over 60 percent unemployment in the area, sport is a powerful force for good, and thanks to proceeds from past events, the teams now have new kit, improved facilities, and a growing youth program. This year's goal: new boots and more equipment. Along with Dobson and Co. contributing their time and talent, the weekend is made possible by Rick and Sue Melville, owners of the Karoo Art Hotel, whose deep local ties and commitment to Barrydale help drive the weekend's fundraising efforts.
