Jogulamba Shakti Peetha: A Heritage Site in Desperate Need of Attention
Located in the newly-formed Jogulamba Gadwal district, the temple gained prominence following the reorganization of districts in Telangana. The presiding deity, Goddess Jogulamba, is enshrined in a vast and spiritually significant location that holds immense potential for tourism development. Yet, despite these advantages, the temple has not seen the infrastructural progress it deserves, largely due to the apathy of political leadership—both past and present.
Leadership Apathy & Political Neglect
Locals and observers note that successive Chief Ministers have failed to prioritize the temple's development. Moreover, the lack of initiative from local elected representatives has also contributed to the stagnation. Some analysts argue that the fact that the Alampur constituency is reserved for Scheduled Castes has led to political sidelining, impacting developmental efforts.
Glorious Past, Present Neglect
Alampur is often referred to as the "Dakshina Kashi" (Southern Kashi), and it boasts a rich heritage including the famous Nava Brahma temples. These temples, dedicated to various forms of Lord Shiva, were once architectural marvels. However, during the rule of the Nawabs, many of these structures were destroyed and have yet to be restored to their original glory. Many temples today remain in a dilapidated condition, much to the dismay of visiting devotees.
Where Are the Donations Going?
Despite the influx of donations from devotees and prominent personalities across states, allegations have emerged that these funds are being mismanaged or diverted. Devotees complain that the benefits of their contributions are not reflected in the on-ground development or in the enhancement of pilgrim facilities.
Poor Facilities: A Deep Disappointment
One of the most pressing concerns is the poor state of the 'Anna Prasadam' distribution system. Despite daily offerings of large donations, the temple can only accommodate around 40 people at a time in its prasadam hall. This forces many pilgrims to wait for hours to receive free meals. This is particularly disheartening given the volume of visitors the temple attracts.
Stalled Progress Under the Prasad Scheme
To address such issues, the central government had sanctioned the construction of modern facilities under the PRASAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation And Spiritual Augmentation Drive) scheme. Prime Minister Narendra Modi even virtually inaugurated these buildings. However, to date, these facilities have not been made operational, leaving devotees questioning the efficiency of the implementation process.
Call for Immediate Action
Being the only Shakti Peetha in Telangana, and the fifth in the country, Jogulamba Temple holds immense religious and cultural importance. Visitors, locals, and devotees are now urging temple authorities, district administrators, and political leaders to wake up to the needs of the temple and take immediate corrective action to restore its sanctity and service standards.

IRCTC case: Court defers order on charges against Lalu Prasad till Aug 5
A Delhi court on Wednesday deferred till August 5 its order on framing of charges against RJD president Lalu Prasad, his wife Rabri Devi, their son Tejashwi Yadav and others in a case linked to alleged irregularities in the IRCTC. On May 29, the court reserved its order after the arguments were concluded on the aspect of charge. Prasad, Devi and Yadav have refuted corruption and other charges levelled against them by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the case. The charges also include criminal conspiracy and cheating, and carry a maximum jail term of seven years. The three claimed before the court through their lawyer that the CBI lacked evidence to prosecute them. Prasad, who was the railway minister during the UPA-I government, earlier questioned the validity of sanctions obtained by the CBI to prosecute him. The agency told the court on February 28 that there was sufficient evidence to prosecute the accused persons. The case is linked to alleged irregularities in the grant of operational contracts of two Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) hotels to a private firm. According to the CBI charge sheet, a conspiracy was hatched between 2004 and 2014 in pursuance of which BNR hotels of the Indian Railways located in Puri and Ranchi were first transferred to the IRCTC. They were later leased to the Patna-based Sujata Hotels Private Limited for operations and maintenance. The tender process, the CBI alleged, was rigged and manipulated and the conditions were tweaked to help the private party -- Sujata Hotels. The charge sheet also names former group general managers of IRCTC V K Asthana and R K Goyal, and Vijay Kochhar and Vinay Kochhar, both directors of Sujata Hotels and owners of Chanakya Hotel. Delight Marketing Company, now known as Lara Projects, and Sujata Hotels have also been named as accused in the charge sheet.

One judge upholds death sentence, other acquits: Split ruling in Jharkhand HC on Maoist ambush that killed 6 cops
Twelve years after a Maoist ambush in Jharkhand's Dumka district killed five policemen, the state High Court has delivered a split ruling. While one judge has upheld the lower court's order of capital punishment, the second one set aside the order and acquitted the two people accused in the case. While delivering the split ruling on July 17, a Division Bench of Justices Rongon Mukhopadhyay and Sanjay Prasad disagreed on whether there was enough evidence to sustain the conviction and the capital punishment that the Dumka sessions court had ordered in 2018. The ruling pertains to a Maoist ambush that killed Pakur SP Amarjit Balihar and five others on July 2, 2013. The SP and his team were on their way back from a meeting when some Maoists ambushed their vehicles and fatally shot them. Apart from the officer, five other policemen – Rajiv Kumar Sharma, Manoj Hembrom, Ashok Kumar Srivastava, Chandan Kumar Thapa, and Santosh Kumar Mandal – were killed. The attack left some others wounded. In 2018, the two accused — Pravir Murmu alias Pravir da and Santan Baskey alias Tala da — were sentenced to death. After hearing their criminal appeal, the Division Bench of the High Court delivered a 197-page judgement on July 17. Setting aside their conviction, Justice Rongon Mukhopadhyay said eyewitnesses in the case – the policemen who survived the attack — could not credibly identify the accused. He also noted the lack of direct involvement of, or recovery of incriminating material from, the two convicts. Justice Prasad, however, took a divergent view and held that the eyewitnesses had identified Pravir and Tala in court and that 'the gruesome murder' of an IPS officer and his team 'did not evoke any sympathy'. Affirming the death sentence, Justice Prasad directed the state government to provide a compensation of Rs 2 crore to the family of the SP, and give a job in the rank of the deputy superintendent of police or the deputy collector to one of his children. He also ordered a compensation of Rs 50 lakh and Grade 4 government jobs to the families of the five other policemen. Special Public Prosecutor Vineet Kumar Vashistha said the split verdict means the case will now be referred to the Chief Justice for reassignment. He went on to say that Justice Prasad considered the case to fall under the 'rarest of rare' category. 'The matter will now be placed before the Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court, who will reconstitute a bench to rehear the case,' he said. Panchayat committees will strengthen Congress, create new leaders: Sirivella
Last Updated: Chaibasa, Jul 20 (PTI) Congress leader Sirivella Prasad on Sunday said the party's decision to form committees at the panchayat level will not only help strengthen the organisation but also create new leaders. Prasad, the co-in-charge of the Congress in Jharkhand, said the party would constitute committees in all 4,402 panchayats in the state. 'A panchayat committee will have 12 members, including a president and two vice-presidents. Around 55,000 people will be included in the panchayat committees across the state. These people will be future leaders," he said. He was addressing the party's 'Sangathan Srjian' programme in Chaibasa. As part of this, a training session for the gram panchayat Congress committee was organised, and it was attended by senior leaders, district presidents, district observers, block presidents, block observers and mandal presidents of Saraikela-Kharswan, West Singhbhum and East Singhbhum. Prasad said the party has also developed a mobile for Jharkhand. 'It's an interactive app where people's issues could be raised, how the party is working could be known, and suggestions could be shared," he said. State Congress president Keshav Mahto Kamlesh urged the district, block and mandal presidents to unfurl the tricolour in their areas on August 15. He said block committees have been set up, and mandal committees would be formed after the constitution of panchayat committees. The process of formation of panchayat committees will be completed by August 15, he said.
