Zaliha: Kota Madani name will be retained in future
PUTRAJAYA: The name Kota Madani that was chosen for the development of government quarters in Presint 19 will be retained as the main identity for modern housing and urban development, in line with the current government's aspirations.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories), Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa, said Kota Madani was not merely a current administrative name but a comprehensive concept embodied with the Malaysia Madani vision and the CHASE approach: Clean, Healthy City, Advanced City, Safe City, and Eco-Friendly City.
"So, it has no relation, as we hear outside, that this Madani name will not last when the government changes and so on. Because, for me, the most important thing is its comprehensive concept.
"For me, it doesn't just represent the current government because it's the result of an idea that originated from the current government, but it's more about the concept itself," she told the media during a briefing session here today.
Dr Zaliha expressed hope that the successful implementation of the Kota Madani concept in Putrajaya can serve as a development model for other regions and cities nationwide.
She also urged all parties to jointly convey the aspirations and meaning behind the Kota Madani development to the public, emphasising that it is not just a physical project but about the well-being of the people.
"For example, Kuala Lumpur is based on a city that has been built for a long time, and it's very difficult for us to create something comprehensive and inclusive there, which is why we came up with this new concept.
"God willing, in future developments, this concept will be adopted because its comprehensiveness extends to talking about the diverse benefits for the people," she said.
Spanning 41.28ha, Kota Madani will house 10,000 residential quarters for over 30,000 people and will be built vertically with high intensity.
It is designed with the integration of artificial intelligence technology, efficient digital infrastructure, and a green mobility system.
The project begins with the development of its first phase, expected to commence in September, involving the construction of approximately 3,000 residential units and a vertical school, which is anticipated to be completed and fully operational by the end of 2027.
The groundbreaking ceremony for Kota Madani is scheduled for tomorrow.

'All business delegates will remain present at each of the three destinations. The Prime Minister extended the invitation to them to join the broader Malaysian mission to help lower costs for all parties and ensure smoother coordination throughout the visits. 'I would like to stress once again that there is no conflict of interest between the government and the business delegation,' he emphasised. Among the corporate representatives joining the mission are Petronas, Khazanah, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), Maybank, FGV, YTL Power, and Sunway.

Speaking to Bernama after a meeting with LC's top management, she emphasised the need for the corporation to play a pivotal role in improving socioeconomic conditions. 'Labuan Corporation must act as a facilitator to empower the socioeconomic well-being of the people, including addressing food security and the high cost of living on the island,' she said. Dr Zaliha stressed that governance and integrity should form the foundation of local authority operations. Despite Labuan's high GDP per capita, driven by oil and gas as well as finance sectors, Dr Zaliha noted that this economic strength has not significantly benefited ordinary residents. She highlighted the importance of reducing food import dependency by boosting local production of essentials like poultry, meat, eggs, and vegetables. Additionally, she pointed to the upcoming Borneo Flora Festival as an opportunity to stimulate economic activity in hospitality, transportation, and homestay sectors, ensuring broader community participation. To date, more than 3,700 commuters have used the direct sea route, with each trip operating at full capacity of over 100 passengers. The revival of the service, linking the duty-free island to Sabah's capital, has been hailed by federal authorities as a much-needed boost to regional connectivity. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa described the ferry's return as a key development for Labuan's socio-economic growth. 'This express ferry is not just a transportation service — it is a vital connector for regional economic, social and development networks,' she said. Speaking to reporters at the Labuan International Ferry Terminal after welcoming passengers from Kota Kinabalu on Sunday, Dr Zaliha said the service facilitates community mobility, daily activities, and the transport of goods within local supply chains. She expressed satisfaction with the strong public reception, noting that the ferry is popular among a wide range of travellers commuting between the two cities. 'This route offers a more convenient and time-saving alternative to the roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) ferry via Menumbok, especially for passengers without vehicles,' she said. While the Ro-Ro ferry is generally preferred for travel to nearby districts such as Menumbok, Kuala Penyu, or Beaufort, the express ferry provides a direct, faster option to Kota Kinabalu.
