Modi highlights govt's farmer outreach, his bond with Kashi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday highlighted his government's farmer-centric policies and spoke about his deep emotional connection with the people of Varanasi, which he has been representing as an MP since 2014, noting that the uninterrupted stream of development continues to flow in the city. Prime Minister Narendra Modi addresses a gathering in Varanasi. (ANI PHOTO) The prime minister was addressing a public gathering on Saturday in Banauli village, Sewapuri, Varanasi. During his daylong visit to the city, he inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 52 projects worth around ₹2,200 crore. He also transferred ₹20,500 crore directly into the bank accounts of over 9.70 crore farmers nationwide under the 20th installment of the PM-KISAN Samman Nidhi scheme. A short film showcasing the success and impact of the scheme on farmers was also screened during the event. He cited the PM-KISAN Samman Nidhi as proof of the government's firm commitment and recalled how Opposition parties like the Samajwadi Party and Congress had spread rumours in 2019, claiming the scheme would stop after elections or the money would be taken back. 'Has a single installment stopped over the years? The PM-KISAN scheme is running without any break,' he said. Presenting data, he shared that nearly ₹3.75 lakh crore has been transferred directly to farmers' accounts so far. In Uttar Pradesh alone, 2.5 crore farmers have received over ₹90,000 crore, while farmers from Kashi have got ₹900 crore. Modi emphasised the transparency of the scheme, saying there are no cuts, commissions or middlemen. 'We have created a permanent system where there's no leakage and no one can steal the rights of the poor,' he added. Reiterating the development mantra 'jo jitna pichhra, use utnahi zyada prathamikta (the more backward one is, the higher the priority that one receives),' Modi announced that earlier this month, the central government approved a major new initiative—the Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana. He informed that ₹24,000 crore will be allocated for this scheme. The prime minister emphasized that the focus of this initiative will be on districts that were left behind due to flawed policies of previous governments—areas with low agricultural output and where farmers' incomes remain limited. Modi said the Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana will directly benefit millions of farmers in Uttar Pradesh as well. 'Our government is working with full strength to transform the lives of farmers, increase their income, and reduce the cost of cultivation, We stand firmly with farmers from seed to market,' he said , highlighting that to ensure water reaches the fields, irrigation schemes worth lakhs of crores of rupees are being implemented across the country. He acknowledged that weather has always posed a major challenge for farmers—be it excessive rainfall, hailstorms, or frost. To protect farmers from such uncertainties, the government launched the PM Fasal Bima Yojana. He informed that under this scheme, farmers have received claim settlements amounting to over ₹1.75 lakh crore so far. Affirming that the government is committed to ensuring farmers receive fair prices for their produce, the prime minister stated that record increases have been made in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of crops, including key staples like rice and wheat. He expressed satisfaction at connecting with the farmers from across the country through videoconference. Emphasising the government's focus on increasing women's participation in the agricultural economy, Modi highlighted the 'Lakhpati Didi' campaign, with a target of creating three crore Lakhpati Didis across India. He said that listening to this figure the people of the SaPa (SP) will run away riding their cycles. Modi said that over 1.5 crore women have already achieved this milestone. He also mentioned that the government's 'Drone Didi' initiative has significantly boosted the income of lakhs of women. He said, 'Under the Jan Dhan Yojana, 55 crore bank accounts have been opened for the poor across the country'. He said the scheme recently completed 10 years and as per regulations, bank accounts require fresh KYC verification after ten years. He added that to fulfill this requirement, a nationwide campaign has been launched from July 1, 2025. He appealed to every individual who holds a Jan Dhan account to ensure they complete their KYC process without delay. Modi shared that in recent days he had been observing images of Shiva devotees in Varanasi carrying Gangajal, especially on the first Monday of Sawan, when the pilgrims set out to perform the sacred Jalabhishek of Baba Vishwanath. 'I had a deep desire to visit Baba Vishwanath and Markandeya Mahadev during the holy month of Sawan,' he said. However, he noted that his presence could cause inconvenience to Mahadev's devotees or disrupt their darshan, hence he was offering his salutations to Lord Bholenath and Maa Ganga from here only. Recalling his recent visit to the historic Gangaikonda Cholapuram temple in Tamil Nadu, Modi noted that this temple was built by the renowned king Rajendra Chola, who had brought Gangajal from North India to symbolically unite the North and South. He highlighted that a thousand years ago, through his devotion to Lord Shiva and commitment to Shaivite tradition, Rajendra Chola had proclaimed the vision of 'Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.' He said that during his recent visit to Gangaikonda Cholapuram, he had carried Gangajal with him, and with the blessings of Maa Ganga, the puja was conducted in a deeply sacred atmosphere. He stated that such eventful occasions ignite the spirit of unity in the country.

Kishan Reddy lashes out at Cong on BC reservations

Hyderabad: Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has deposited Rs 2,000 crore into the accounts of 10 crore farmers through the PM Kisan Samman Yojana. While addressing the OBC Morcha protest programme at Dharna Chowk on Saturday, he criticised Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for making irrelevant comments. He said the Chief Minister referred to the Prime Minister as a 'converted BC.' He questioned how the BC community, which joins the BCs, could be considered a converted BC, noting that in 1971, Lambada joined the STs. He emphasised that mere words do not equate to heroism or greatness, adding that people are not inclined to forgive those who mislead them. He stated, 'People are observing all parties and leaders. This is why you received a clear message in the last parliamentary elections; out of every 100 voters who arrived at the polling station, 37 wanted the saffron flag to fly in Telangana. Revanth Reddy needs to understand this.' Kishan Reddy criticised the Congress party for its pre-election promise during the Kamareddy Declaration to provide 42% reservation for BCs within 100 days of coming to power. He stated that even after two years, the issue of BC reservations remains unresolved, and Congress is attempting to shift the blame onto the BJP-led central government due to its incompetence. He further said that the 42% reservation proposed by the Congress party is not beneficial for BCs, but rather serves Muslim interests for political and electoral gains. He highlighted that Telangana had implemented 34% reservation in local body elections under previous BRS governance and criticised CM KCR for attempting to push for 12% religious reservations for Muslims, stating that this is not truly for their benefit. Reddy pointed out that KCR has reduced BC reservations from 34% to 23%. He asked Revanth Reddy if the 34% reservation for BCs has increased or decreased, emphasising the lack of progress. He noted that if 10% is deducted from the proposed 42% reservation for Muslims, only 32% remains for BCs. He warned that the benefits being touted are 2% less than previous reservations for BCs, that the law is detrimental, not advantageous, for them. Kishan Reddy called on the Congress party to act sincerely and implement the full 42% reservation for BCs. He warned that if there are attempts to deceive the community, they will not stay silent. On behalf of the BJP, he stated that it is unfair to allocate 32% reservation while undermining the backwards classes (BCs). 'As you have announced, 42% reservation should be granted,' he insisted. He accused Congress leaders of spreading false propaganda and attempting to gain attention by going to Delhi for protests. Reddy asserted that the BJP demands that the promised 42% reservation for BCs be implemented. He highlighted the BJP's achievements, stating that the party has had a BC as Prime Minister for 11 consecutive years since independence. He emphasised that the BJP legally granted constitutional status to the BC Commission, empowering it significantly, and has appointed 28 BCs as ministers in the central government. He challenged the Congress party, asking if it has ever appointed a BC as Prime Minister or Chief Minister while governing the country and the state since independence. He criticised their inability to elevate BCs to such positions despite numerous opportunities, stating, 'The Congress party has no moral right to criticise the BJP.' He pointed out that the British conducted a caste census before independence.

CM disburses Rs 697 cr under PM-KISAN

Bhubaneswar: In a major boost to farmers' welfare, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday disbursed the 20th instalment of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme to more than 34.85 lakh farmers across the State, releasing total assistance of Rs 697 crore. The disbursement event was held on ICAR-CIFA campus on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar and marked the State-level observance of PM-Kisan Diwas. This initiative coincided with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's nationwide rollout of the instalment from Varanasi, where Rs 21,000 crore was digitally transferred to 9.7 crore farmers across India under the scheme. Addressing a large gathering of farmers and officials, Majhi reiterated his government's commitment to agricultural growth and farmer-centric governance. 'Our government is of the people and for the people, especially for our farmers. In a short time, we have rolled out multiple initiatives for their welfare. Today, over 50 lakh farmers in Odisha are receiving Rs 4,000 annually through the CM-Kisan scheme. Combined with PM-KISAN, they now receive Rs 10,000 per year,' he said. To ensure no eligible farmer is left behind, the Chief Minister announced a State-wide saturation drive across all blocks. 'We are determined to include every eligible farmer in the scheme. The funds are being transferred directly to farmers' bank accounts to ensure complete transparency through digital means,' he added. Majhi also emphasised the importance of crop diversification and the promotion of allied sectors like fisheries and animal husbandry to enhance farmer incomes. 'We must move beyond the goal of doubling income - farmers' earnings should increase manifold. A prosperous and developed India depends on the prosperity of our farmers,' he said. The Chief Minister further highlighted the success of Odisha's Samruddha Krushak Yojana, under which farmers receive additional Rs 800 input assistance per quintal of paddy. Last year alone, the State disbursed Rs 6,000 crore to 17 lakh farmers during the Kharif season and Rs 1,600 crore to 3 lakh farmers during Rabi. The event marked a significant milestone in Odisha's mission to uplift its agricultural sector and align with the national goal of building a self-reliant, developed India as envisioned by Prime Minister Modi.
