Kin cremate caste killing victim's body after 5 days

Tirunelveli: The mortal remains of scheduled caste (SC) youth C Kavin Selva Ganesh were laid to rest at his native place, Arumugamangalam at Eral in Tuticorin district, on Friday as his family agreed to accept the body after protesting for more than five days.
The family has been demanding justice for Kavin, who was murdered by his girlfriend's brother Surjith who opposed their relationship as the woman belonged to the most backward community.
On Friday morning, Kavin's mortal remains were handed over to his parents and relatives at Tirunelveli govt medical college hospital after post-mortem. Municipal administration minister K N Nehru and Tirunelveli collector R Sukumar paid tributes to the body which was then transported to Arumugamangalam amid police security.
A large number of villagers and relatives gathered for the cremation. Tuticorin MP K Kanimozhi, social welfare minister P Geetha Jeevan, fisheries minister Anitha R Radhakrishnan, Tuticorin collector K Elambahavath, and Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) leader Seeman consoled the family.
Tamil Nadu State Commission for SC/STs chairperson S Tamilvanan handed over a cheque of Rs 6 lakh as compensation to Kavin's family and assured prompt legal action in the case.
"We will pressure the state and central govts to enact a separate law for handling caste killings. Caste violence affects the whole society. Any woman above 18 years of age and man above 21 years of age should be free to pick their partner of their choice for marriage," said Tamilvanan, chairing a review meeting in Tirunelveli.
He also recommended ensuring protection for Kavin's family.
Kavin's murder case was transferred to CBCID on Wednesday. S Surjith, 21, the brother of S Subashini, the woman who was reportedly in a relationship with Kavin, was arrested for the murder and detained under the Goondas Act. Later, their father Saravanan, a police sub-inspector attached to Tamil Nadu Special Police (TSP), was also arrested. Their mother, Krishnakumari, who is also an SI attached to TSP, was suspended along with Saravanan but not arrested, though booked in the case.
Tirunelveli city police have clarified that there were no previous police complaints against Kavin regarding the love affair and no police officer threatened Kavin or his family members.

On the other hand, Nitin is emotional as his sister, Vrinda, doesn't have basic educational resources. Sameer visits Nitin's house and offers him Rs 50,000 to delete the CCTV footage. When Nitin hesitates to accept the bribe, Sameer promises to give him Rs 5 lakh and walks away. Nitin's wife then argues with him for not accepting the money. While busy with house chores, Tulsi remembers Angad. Munni, the maid, tries to assure Tulsi that Angad is innocent. She reminds Tulsi how Angad has always been truthful and insists that he is innocent this time as well. Tulsi becomes emotional as the truth about Angad is not out yet. Nitin's mother falls and injures herself. The doctor recommends surgery, which will cost a substantial amount. Nitin and Vrinda worry about the expense. It is then revealed that Nitin's mother and Supriya had plotted the accident so that Nitin would accept money from Sameer. Unwillingly, Nitin is persuaded to accept the bribe. He goes to the office to delete the CCTV footage and copies it onto a pendrive before bringing it home. Vrinda learns truth about Angad's innocence Tulsi is anxious about Angad. Early the next morning, Vrinda wakes up to complete her assignment. She notices that the television is on and sees news about Angad being jailed for a drink-and-drive case. While searching for her own pendrive, she unexpectedly finds Nitin's. She then sees CCTV footage of Sameer as the real culprit behind the accident. She then feels bad as Angad is innocent and is in jail. Vrinda decides to inform the truth to her brother. The following morning, Tulsi and Mihir are worried about Angad's situation. They observe Hemant and Hrithik discussing the cancellation of contracts at the company. Gayatri comments on how things are worsening. Mihir decides to bail Angad out, but Tulsi opposes this. Mihir argues and decides to sign the papers. However, Hemant intervenes and asks Mihir to not go against Tulsi's wishes. Gayatri and Mihir get upset. The episode concludes here.

A Fast Track Court in Chengalpattu has convicted and sentenced a history sheeter to 10-year-imprisonment for murdering a 42-year-old man in Medavakkam in 2012. According to police, on February, 27, 2012, one Kabali, 42, was brutally attacked by Lakshmanan 25 who stabbed him with a broken beer bottle and caused his death, based on the incident, a case was registered at Pallikaranai Police Station. Subsequently it was transferred to Medavakkam Police Station, for monitoring and follow up of trial proceedings. Lakshmanan, 25, of Kovilambakkam who is a history sheeted rowdy was arrested and sent to the judicial custody. At the conclusion of trial, the court on Friday pronounced its judgement convicting and sentencing Lakshmanan to 10-year-imprisonment. He was also imposed a fine of Rs 3000.

B engaluru: A 49-year-old interior designer from Avalahalli in north Bengaluru was allegedly assaulted and robbed of Rs 22,000 in cash, debit card, PAN card and driving licence. The victim, Anand C, had gone to buy groceries at 5.15pm when a man collided with him. Moments later, two others snatched his phone and fled. Realising it was a setup, Anand caught the man who bumped into him and demanded his phone back. The miscreant led him to AS Char Street in Chickpet, where he attacked Anand with a blade on his elbow and struck him on the head before fleeing. Later, the same attacker reappeared and claimed he knew where Anand's phone was but demanded money in exchange. Anand agreed and followed him to KR Market. There, the two accomplices who had stolen his phone appeared, grabbed him by the shirt, and allegedly took Rs 22,000 from his pocket, along with his debit card, PAN card and driving licence. A scuffle ensued, during which the phone fell. Anand recovered it and raised an alarm, prompting the miscreant to flee. Cottonpet police registered a case under BNS Section 309 (robbery) and arrested one accused, identified as 23-year-old Gundappa. During questioning, Gundappa claimed Anand had only Rs 600 on him.
