Haryana: Kaithal farmer hails PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana
Speaking to IANS, Indra Singh expressed optimism: "With the Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaanya Yojana, the government is doing good work for us. Proper irrigation through underground pipelines will help prevent water wastage. If crop storage is made available at the village level, it will ease our burden. Transporting crops is costly, and sometimes tractor owners charge high rents. This scheme will help cover those expenses."
He further added that access to affordable loans through government channels would be a game-changer for small farmers.
"Middlemen charge us high interest and often delay repayments. But with this scheme, loans from the government will be cheaper and easier to access. It will reduce our dependency on local moneylenders," he told IANS.
The Prime Minister Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana, set to begin in 2025-26, will run for six years and cover 100 districts across India. It draws inspiration from NITI Aayog's Aspirational Districts Programme and focuses exclusively on agriculture and allied sectors.
It aims to enhance agricultural productivity, increase adoption of crop diversification and sustainable agricultural practices, augment post-harvest storage at the panchayat and block levels, improve irrigation facilities and facilitate availability of long-term and short-term credit, according to the official statement.
The scheme will be implemented through the convergence of 36 existing schemes across 11 departments, other state schemes and local partnerships with the private sector.
As many as 100 districts will be identified based on three key indicators of low productivity, low cropping intensity, and less credit disbursement. The number of districts in each state/UT will be based on the share of Net Cropped Area and operational holdings. However, a minimum of 1 district will be selected from each state, according to an official statement.
Committees will be formed at the District, State and National level for effective planning, implementation and monitoring of the Scheme. A District Agriculture and Allied Activities Plan will be finalised by the District Dhan Dhaanya Samiti, which will also have progressive farmers as members.
The District Plans will be aligned to the national goals of crop diversification, conservation of water and soil health, self-sufficiency in agriculture and allied sectors, as well as expansion of natural and organic farming.
The progress of the scheme in each Dhan-Dhaanya district will be monitored on 117 key Performance Indicators through a dashboard monthly.
NITI Aayog will also review and guide the district plans. Besides, Central Nodal Officers appointed for each district will also review the scheme regularly, the statement explained.

To improve road infrastructure, Modi laid the foundation stone for four-laning of Ara bypass of NH-319 that connects Ara-Mohania NH-319 and Patna-Buxar NH-922 providing seamless connectivity and reducing travel time. He also inaugurated the four-lane Parariya to Mohania section of NH-319, worth over Rs 820 crore, part of NH-319 which connects Ara town to NH-02 (Golden Quadrilateral). Among others, a two-lane with paved shoulder from Sarwan to Chakai of NH-333C which will facilitate the movement of goods and people and act as a key link between Bihar and Jharkhand. NITI Aayog proposes easing investment curbs on Chinese firms, suggests allowing 24% stake without nod: Report
India's leading policy think tank, NITI Aayog, has suggested relaxing regulations that mandate additional scrutiny for investments by Chinese firms, asserting that these rules have caused delays for some significant deals, news agency Reuters reported, citing government sources. All investments by Chinese companies in India currently require necessary security approvals from both the Home Ministry and the Foreign Ministry. However, NITI Aayog has proposed that Chinese companies may acquire a stake of up to 24% in an Indian company without the need for approval, the news agency said, citing sources who did not wish to be named. The proposal is part of an initiative to increase foreign direct investment in India and is currently under review by the trade ministry's industries department, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as by Prime Minister Narendra Modi office, the report said. NITI Aayog has also suggested to revamp the board that decides on foreign direct investment proposals, it added. Livemint could not independently verify the report. Notably, the NITI Aayog plays an advisory role and not all proposals suggested by the body are implemented by the government. government. However, the proposal comes at a time when India and China are reportedly trying to improve bilateral relations following the border issues in 2020. The final decision over easing the trade rules will be taken by the political leaders, the report said, citing two sources. The current regulations were introduced following border conflicts in 2020. Although global foreign investment has slowed since Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the restrictions on Chinese investment in India are seen as a key reason for a significant decline in the country's FDI. Net foreign direct investment in India dropped to a record low of just $353 million in the last financial year, compared to the $43.9 billion recorded in the year ending March 2021. Foreign Minister S Jaishankar made his first visit to China in five years this week. During his trip, he emphasised to his counterpart the importance of resolving border tensions and urged both nations to avoid restrictive trade measures, such as China's limits on rare earth magnet supplies.
