James Gunn recalls how he had to tell
Henry
about the recast
Gunn recently got candid about what all went down while casting for the new 'Superman' film, which has been well-received by the public ever since its release. During a new episode of the podcast 'Happy Sad Confused',
Josh Horowitz
recalled how the news of Henry being back for the role came on the very day that they closed the deal in his studios.
At the time, there had been a lot of confusion amongst fans of the film, as after his cameo in 'Black Adam', the actor had released an official video saying, 'I wanted to make it official — I am back as Superman'.
The blunder happened then, two months later, Cavill shared that he would no longer be taking on the role of the beloved superhero.
James talks about Henry's reaction to the news
The 'Guardians of the Galaxy' writer shared during the podcast that after finding out about Henry's return, they were shocked. He delved into how they thought it was fair to inform the actor about the news face-to-face as well.
'That was really unfortunate, I'm like, this poor guy. And so Peter [Safran] and I knew the right thing to do was to sit down with [Cavill] and talk to him.
And we sat down, we talked to him, he was an absolute gentleman, a great guy about it. He said, 'The only thing I ask is that I'm able to reveal it myself as opposed to it coming from you guys'', Gunn shared.
He even called the whole ordeal unfair to Cavill, and stated 'wanted to take on what they wanted to do at DC and were trying to force their way, and it just was never a part of the equation'.
Will Henry Cavill return to the world of superheroes?
While fans of Cavill were disappointed to see him no longer be the beloved 'Superman', there is still a possibility that the actor might make his return to the multiverse! During the podcast, the host asked about how everything would be if Henry were cast in another role.
Gunn replied with enthusiasm, saying, 'No, as another character? Absolutely not. I talked to him about it on that day. I would love to put Henry in something'.

Avatar: Fire and Ash trailer sparks netizen backlash over exclusive theatrical debut; ‘who do they think they are?'
James Cameron's Avatar 3 trailer is finally here — sort of. Titled Avatar: Fire and Ash, the third installment in the franchise is revving up its promotional cycle, but its first trailer is causing more outrage than excitement. The reason? It's only available in theatres. James Cameron; Avatar: Fire and Ash new poster This weekend, the long-awaited trailer will screen exclusively before Marvel's Fantastic Four: First Steps, meaning that unless you're buying a movie ticket, you're not getting a sneak peek. According to a post on the official Avatar X account, the theatrical-only rollout is part of a strategic partnership between Disney's biggest tentpoles. The film is slated for a December 19 release, with Avatar 4 and Avatar 5 already locked in for December 2029 and 2031, respectively. But while the world of Pandora continues to expand, not everyone is thrilled about how it's being promoted. Fans react to the exclusive release Across X and TikTok, fans expressed frustration over not being able to view the trailer online. 'Having a trailer play only in theaters is crazy, who do they think they are,' wrote one user. Another joked, 'I'm gonna watch a version from someone's cell phone on TikTok, just as James Cameron intended.' Some claimed the leak has already happened: 'You joke, but that's how it leaked. Cell phone recording of it playing accidentally before Superman. Then an IMAX projectionist who had the file, leaked the 4K online. Which I have.' Those who had seen the trailer offered tantalising tidbits: 'Your God no has presence here!" one wrote, teasing that the Fire Tribe and Fire Queen 'look absolutely crazy and the CGI is so freakin good.' Another added: 'Jake getting captured — there will be a lot to digest in the movie.' Still, not all feedback was negative. 'I'm going to buy a ticket just to see this trailer… and leave afterwards,' wrote one fan, while another pointed out, 'Smart move for even more asses into seats.' All is not lost, though — the franchise did offer fans a first look at its newest villain with the release of the official poster. Meet Varang, played by Game of Thrones alum Oona Chaplin, who is set to play a pivotal role in the rising conflict on Pandora. What's in the trailer? The Fire and Ash trailer was first unveiled to a select audience at CinemaCon back in April, and it's as ambitious as expected. Picking up directly after The Way of Water, the footage returns viewers to the lush, bioluminescent world of Pandora. This time, two new Na'vi tribes take the spotlight: the Wind Traders, who fly in contraptions that resemble hot-air balloons, and the Fire People, who command the skies on fiery beasts. Conflict erupts between the tribes, and in one explosive moment, a Na'vi warrior is shot down by a flaming arrow. At the heart of the drama is Jake Sully, played by Sam Worthington, who tells Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña): 'We can not live like this, baby. We can not live with this hate.' With new mythology, warring clans, and high-stakes emotion, Fire and Ash promises a darker, more intense chapter. Now all fans need is some access to the allegedly insane trailer.

Trae Young slams new Superman movie for weak portrayal of his favorite superhero
Trae Young is in the Atlanta Hawks now (Image via Getty Images) The Atlanta Hawks forward Trae Young recently made headlines as he voiced his dissatisfaction with the way Superman was portrayed in the most recent film adaptation. The NBA icon, who is well-known for being open on social media, expressed his opinions regarding the movie on X. On the other hand, he again went viral after responding to Iman Shumpert's criticism with a vicious dig. Trae Young fires back at Superman portrayal and Iman Shumpert's criticism in viral fashion Trae Young , a die-hard Superman fan, recently voiced his displeasure with the famous superhero's portrayal. He took to X on July 21 and wrote: 'These Superman movies starting to make him look weak or it's just me??? That's my favorite superhero btw I'm asking cause I'm really upset..' Superman has been regarded as a representation of power, optimism, and invincibility for many generations. However, devoted admirers like Trae Young don't like how the recent film adaptations of the character have tended towards vulnerability. On the other hand, after retaliating against a former NBA champion for offensive remarks on ESPN, the Atlanta Hawks player again made headlines. Iman Shumpert talked about Trae Young during a recent NBA Today appearance. Shump wasn't convinced that the superhero movie enthusiast could become a great NBA player. The former NBA champion specifically criticized him for reportedly being too undersized and a defensive liability for a team that wanted to win a title. Slamming the NBA star, he said: 'Trae Young statistically, what he brings to a game of basketball, I get it. At 6'3, it's tough to say can he switch onto a 5 at the end of the game, can he guard a bigger guard… Can he make a 2-guard a scoring champion?' Trae Young in action (Image via Getty Images). In response to a fan who criticized Shump for his remarks, Trae Young said that he had defeated him in their most recent matchup. Responding to the comment, he wrote: 'That's why I let them live… What I did to him on the court when we played, you'd think he'd have more respect when my name gets brought up! I could keep going… No hate this way, tho (sic).' Meanwhile, Trae Young's comment on the new Superman movie reflects a larger discussion among superhero fans over how comic book characters are changing and being reinterpreted for contemporary audiences. James Gunn's Take On David Corenswet Replacing Henry Cavill In Superman
Last Updated: James Gunn discusses telling Henry Cavill he won't return as Superman, calling it "unfair." Gunn hints at future DCU roles for Cavill. Amid the thunderous response coming in for the latest release, Superman, director James Gunn reflected on the moment when he had to tell Henry Cavill that he was not returning to the film. Gunn took a trip down memory lane to recall the time when a section of the studio tried to 'force" the casting of Cavill in the film which was 'never part of the equation," which, according to him, created an 'unfair" situation for Cavill. During a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, as quoted by Variety, Gunn said, 'The day our [DC] deal closed, all of a sudden, they were announcing that Henry was back. And I'm like, 'What is going on?' We know what the plan is. The plan was to come in and do 'Superman.' So it was really unfair to him and a total bummer." To solve the misunderstanding, James Gunn decided to sit down for a chat with Henry Cavill and disclose the news himself. The director added, 'So, that was really unfortunate. Peter and I [thought] the right thing to do was to sit down with [Cavill] and talk to him. And we sat down and we talked to him. He was an absolute gentleman, a great guy about it. He said, 'The only thing I ask is that I'm able to reveal it myself as opposed to it coming from you guys." Gunn also hinted at bringing back Henry Cavill to the future DCU movies. When asked whether it would be 'too confusing" to recast the actor in the DC Universe, the director responded, 'No, as another character? Absolutely not. I talked to him about it on that day. I would love to put Henry in something." Henry Cavill played the Man of Steel across three DC films from 2013 to 2017. He was replaced by David Corenswet for Gunn's DCU debut feature Superman, which arrived in theatres on July 11. Alongside David Cornswet, Superman also features Nicholas Hoult (Lex Luthor), Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Anthony Carrigan (Metamorpho), Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific), Nathan Fillion (Guy Gardner) and Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl).
