Carlos Prates questions UFC Kansas City performance – a reminder what losing feels like
Carlos Prates has been faced with a harsh reality coming out of his first loss in six years.
At Saturday's UFC on ESPN 66, Prates (21-7 MMA, 4-1 UFC) was defeated by Ian Machado Garry (16-1 MMA, 9-1 UFC), who won by unanimous decision. The fight headlined the promotion's event at T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Mo.
"Guys, this is crazy," Prates wrote Monday on Instagram in Portuguese. "Six years without losing, I had forgotten how much it hurts, how it hurts the heart, the soul, more than any other part of the body, all day thinking 'what if I had caught the back,' 'what if I knocked it down,' what if I touched it more" … and so on. Time to go home, take care of the body and come back stronger than every other time. Despite everything, this week was awesome, we had some awesome days, lots of lessons and so on, I have nothing to complain about. Thanks to everyone who cheered, sent messages, my team, my crown, everyone involved in this journey. I can't wait to be back. THE NIGHTMARE HAS JUST BEGUN!"
Prates, 31, had an 11-fight winning streak snapped. His previous defeat came in June 2019 vs. Gadjimurad Abdulaev at ONE Warrior Series 6. Prates made his UFC debut in February 2024 and defeated Trevin Giles, Charles Radtke, Li Jingliang, and Neil Magny by knockout prior to his first main event vs. Garry.

Bam Adebayo Sends 1-Word Message Amid Trade Rumors
Bam Adebayo Sends 1-Word Message Amid Trade Rumors originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Bam Adebayo has established himself as one of the best centers in the NBA. Since he is still 27 years old, he could perform even better in the coming years, but Heat fans wouldn't be much thrilled to hear that. It seems more and more likely that Adebayo will leave Miami before the new season begins. Advertisement Over 78 games, the Heat star put up 18.1 points, 9.6 boards, 4.3 assists, and 1.3 steals per night, shooting 48.5% overall and 35.7% from deep. The numbers suggest that Miami will be unwilling to part ways with Adebayo, but rivals keep knocking on the door with trade offers. Reports indicate that the No.13 is open to wearing a new shirt next season, should the right offer come in. © Sam Navarro-Imagn Images As the offseason buzz around Bam Adebayo's future grows louder, the All-Star big man stirred the pot with a cryptic social media post. A simple Instagram post, just a photo of him outside with the caption 'outside', was all it took to send fans and pundits into a frenzy. It might just be an innocent post with no hidden meaning, but the timing only added to the growing speculation about a possible departure from the Heat. Bovada has rolled out odds for Adebayo's next potential destination, and the online sportsbook believes the Lakers are the frontrunners in this race. Advertisement If the betting odds are any indication, the Lakers are out in front at +190. The Grizzlies sit just behind at +260, with the Spurs and Kings at +300 and +375. The Mavericks follow at +475, while the Bulls and Celtics round out the list with longer odds of +1000 and +1600, respectively. Eagles Legend Writing Dangerous Checks for 2025
Eagles Legend Writing Dangerous Checks for 2025 originally appeared on Athlon Sports. During his 14-year career with the Philadelphia Eagles, Brandon Graham was known throughout the league as one of the game's biggest trash-talkers. Advertisement It endeared him to Eagles fans worldwide, as did his heroics on two Super Bowl teams. Now, months after his retirement, if fans thought they heard the last of Graham's entertaingly big mouth, they are sadly mistaken. In a video showing Graham speaking to "Janky Rondo" on Instagram, the Pro Bowl edge rusher spoke out about the Eagles' chances of winning back-to-back NFC East titles this season. While Graham did make it clear that the Washington Commanders would be in Philadelphia's way in the division, he also threw some shots at Deebo Samuel - Washington's newest receiver. "It's going to be between us two," Graham said of the Eagles and the Commanders. "I wouldn't worry about him (Samuel). He gotta be in shape first—he don't look like he in shape right now." Advertisement Samuel has dealt with chatter about his weight over the last few seasons, even before he was traded from the San Francisco 49ers to the Commanders in March. But Graham's comments are dangerous. In three career games against Philadelphia, Samuel has recorded 13 catches for over 244 yards and three scores. All three scores came during the last meeting between him and the Eagles - a 42-19 blowout by the 49ers. Samuel is not yet proven to be some aged veteran who has obviously lost his burst. He remains - assuming healthy - an extremely dangerous and physical player any time he touches the ball. So … All Graham is doing is adding attention for himself and adding fuel to the fire for Philadelphia's two games against Washington this season. Advertisement Unlike past years, Graham won't be on the field to cash the checks his hyperactive mouth writes. That'll be up to his former team, and the Eagles therefore can't be too thrilled with his comments. Dana White Makes Massive Announcements About Jon Jones Retiring and Tom Aspinall's Promotion to Undisputed Heavyweight Champion
Dana White Makes Massive Announcements About Jon Jones Retiring and Tom Aspinall's Promotion to Undisputed Heavyweight Champion originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Jones, widely regarded as one of the greatest fighters of all time, has been involved in a prolonged standoff for the past year with UFC heavyweight interim champion Tom Aspinall. While Jones remained noncommittal, Aspinall was forced to defend his interim belt and sit out instead of fighting a unification bout. In a shocking turn of events, however, UFC CEO Dana White dropped a bombshell announcement that closes one of the most significant chapters in UFC history while ushering in a new era. Advertisement During the UFC Baku post-fight press conference, UFC CEO Dana White revealed that Jon Jones has officially retired. With Jones' retirement now official, White also announced that Tom Aspinall has been crowned the undisputed UFC heavyweight champion. Dana White UFC(Photo by Chris Unger/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images) White told the press, 'Jon Jones called us last night and retired. Jon Jones has officially retired. Tom Aspinall is the heavyweight champion of the UFC.' The announcement came after months of speculation regarding Jones' future, with the UFC heavyweight champion repeatedly hinting at walking away from the sport. White was asked whether or not he regrets spending precious time trying to book Aspinall vs. Jones, to which he responded, 'If you look at what [Jones] has accomplished in the sport, no... I obviously feel bad for Tom that he lost all that time and money, but we'll make it up to him.' Advertisement The British star, who held the interim title for nearly 600 days (the longest interim championship reign in UFC history), finally secures the undisputed status he has been working towards. Aspinall had grown increasingly vocal about the division's stagnation, declaring earlier this month that Jones had retired. With Jones retiring, one of the most storied and controversial careers in MMA history now comes to an end. His departure from the UFC marks the end of an era, leaving Aspinall to lead the heavyweight division and bring excitement to the promotion. The division itself, meanwhile, can finally move forward, after having been stuck in limbo since Jones's last title defense against Stipe Miocic in November 2024. With Jones's saga officially over, the UFC now turns its attention to booking Aspinall's first title defense, with an announcement expected soon.
