Holding a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Leeds, UK, Hamood Al Alawi brings over two decades of diverse leadership experience across the government and private sectors, with a strong track record in asset management, corporate transformation and commercial performance. He has held senior roles with Shell International in the Netherlands, led flagship-cost efficiency initiatives for Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), and served as a member of the Executive leadership team at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, where he headed a unit responsible for an OMR 1 billion strategic project.
In 2024, Hamood Al Alawi was appointed to lead the transformation of Oman Airports Management Company, where, during a brief but impactful tenure, the company delivered record financial performance, including the highest EBITDA since its establishment, as well as a comprehensive restructuring programme to enhance efficiency and capacity. As Deputy CEO of Oman Air, he will play a key role in driving the day-to-day activities of the transformation, working directly with the CEO and senior leadership to facilitate change and enable the delivery of performance targets which ensure the airline's long-term commercial viability, financial sustainability, and operational excellence.

Bank Muscat enables IBAN Service for Fund Transfers across borders
Muscat: In a commitment to enhance payment system efficiency and align with international standards for improved customer experience, Bank Muscat, the leading financial services provider in the Sultanate of Oman, has begun to support the International Bank Account Number (IBAN) for fund transfers across borders starting July 1, 2025. This initiative, in accordance with directives from the Central Bank of Oman (CBO), aims to reduce operational errors and speed up financial transactions between individuals and businesses, ultimately providing beneficiaries with safer and smoother transfers. As part of these directives, cross-border transfers that do not utilize the IBAN will no longer be accepted as of July 1, 2025. The IBAN will be a prerequisite to receive all fund transfers to Oman, while domestic transfers will still have the option to use either the IBAN or the traditional account number. Zuwaina Abdullah Al Sharji, Assistant General Manager of Central Operations & Change Management at Bank Muscat, stated, "The bank is committed to complying with international standards and implementing best banking practices. The decision to adopt the IBAN is intended to accelerate bank transfers (STP), standardize account coordination among all banks, reduce human errors in account entry, and adhere to international standards like the SWIFT system. This will significantly enhance the security and speed of transaction processing." Al Sharji emphasized Bank Muscat's dedication to integrating the latest banking systems to facilitate the swift completion of transactions for individual and corporate customers, ensuring an exceptional banking experience that meets contemporary local and international standards. New licensing requirement for key logistics professions announced in Oman
Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman's Ministry of Labour (MoL) has announced that a Professional Practice License will become mandatory for several professions within the logistics sector, effective September 1, 2025. This initiative is part of the Ministry of Labour's ongoing efforts to regulate the labour market, enhance workforce efficiency in the Sultanate of Oman, and ensure that professions are practised in adherence to approved professional standards. The new requirement applies to all individuals – both Omani and expatriate – currently working in or intending to work in the designated professions listed below, across various sectors. Crucially, obtaining a Professional Practice License from the Sectoral Skills Unit for the Logistics Sector will be a mandatory prerequisite for the issuance or renewal of work permits for both Omani and expatriate workers. As of September 1, 2025, no work permit will be issued or renewed without the submission of this approved license. License applications must be submitted electronically via the official platform of the Sectoral Skills Unit for the Logistics Sector, accessible at: Non-compliant establishments will face legal and administrative consequences in accordance with applicable laws and regulations from the effective date. This announcement is binding on all establishments operating in the Sultanate of Oman, as well as all individuals (Omanis and expatriates) currently practising or intending to practise the covered professions.
